Tom Hardy's 'best on screen performance in years' compared to Martin Scorsese classic
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A 'riveting' crime drama is being hailed as featuring 'Tom Hardy's best on screen performance in years.' It is also being compared to a beloved Martin Scorsese classic. This is a bold statement for an actor who has consistently wowed audiences with his roles in both film and television over the past decade. His notable performances include playing the Kray twins in Legend, roles in The Revenant, Dunkirk and more recently, a leading role in the series Mob Land. However, some might argue that his part in the less critically acclaimed Venom trilogy may have led audiences to overlook his true acting prowess. A recent reminder of his capabilities was seen in 2024's The Bikeriders. Hardy joined a star-studded cast for the film, sharing the screen with Elvis star Austin Butler and Killing Eve's Jodie Comer, along with The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus and Man of Steel's Michael Shannon. (Image: YouTube / 20th Century Studios) Set in the 1960s, the narrative unfolds over a decade, tracing the transformation of a Midwestern motorcycle club from a local outsider hangout to a menacing gang, jeopardising the original group's way of life. Hardy portrays the gang leader, with Butler as his young protégé and Comer as his wife. While the plot is fictional, writer and director Jeff Nichols drew inspiration from the eponymous book by photographer Danny Lyon, which documented images of a real-life bike gang, reports the Mirror. A Collider critic has hailed the film as "Tom Hardy's best on screen performance in years." They elaborated: "Not only was it a blessing to see Hardy work with such a rich cast and visionary director again, but he also gave perhaps his most revelatory performance since breaking out with American audiences in Inception. On the surface, Hardy could play the leader of a bike gang in his sleep, as the actor is known for his brutish tough guys." The movie earned an impressive 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with many reviewers giving kudos to the standout performances by Hardy, Butler, and Comer. UK cinephiles who haven't had the chance to watch it yet can stream the film on Sky Cinema or NOW with a movies pass. Echoing the critic's sentiments, a fan expressed online: "Tom Hardy shines and gives a Marlon Brando-esque performance that made me enjoy every scene he was in." Another enthusiast shared their praise: "The Bikeriders is an electrifying journey into the heart of 1960s biker culture! Jeff Nichols masterfully captures the gritty essence of an outlaw motorcycle club's evolution from a band of misfits to a formidable crime syndicate. Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, and Tom Hardy deliver powerhouse performances, breathing life into complex characters that stay with you long after the credits roll." (Image: Focus Features) Meanwhile, another viewer enthused: "Gripping, gritty and raw with stellar performances in a film that only Jeff Nichols could bring to vivid cinematic life." One individual drew comparisons to the work of a renowned filmmaker. They made a clear reference to Goodfellas, stating: "I checked to see if Martin Scorsese directed it; he didn't. Jeff Nichols is certainly a Scorsese admirer. Great Film!" The Bikeriders is streaming on Sky Cinema and NOW.

Joe Sugg refers to Strictly's Dianne Buswell as ‘my wife' before she asks awkward question
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Joe Sugg once referred to Dianne Buswell as "my wife", before she quizzed him on whether he had an engagement ring in his pocket. The YouTube sensation opened up about his relationship with the Australian dancer on the In Sickness and in Health podcast, hosted by James and Clair Buckley, recalling their first meeting on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing. Their love story began on the 16th series of Strictly, with the couple confirming their relationship on Instagram shortly after the Grand Final, where they competed, but narrowly missed out on the trophy to Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton. Over the course of the show, Dianne ended her relationship with her then-partner, Emmerdale's Anthony Quinlan. However, after the series concluded, Joe expressed that although he didn't win the glitterball trophy, he had "won something a million times more special". Since then, the famous pair have taken their relationship to the next level, moving in together and purchasing their first home in February 2021. Fans are eagerly awaiting news of an engagement. (Image: Getty Images for BAFTA) Reflecting on their initial meeting on the popular BBC dance show during a joint appearance on the podcast last year, Joe opened up about his experience on the genealogy programme, 'Who Do You Think You Are?'. He found it "nice" to learn about how his grandparents and great-grandparents met, leading him to draw parallels between traditional courtship methods and his own romance with Dianne. He went on: "Back in the old days, it was all through like dances, and they'd get up and go, 'May I have this dance?' That kind of thing. So like, technically, I can say I met erm.." At that point, someone interjected to clarify if he was referring to his wife, prompting him to correct this by saying "partner". Concurrently, Dianne couldn't help but join in, exclaiming: "Oh, you're dead! Have you got a ring in your pocket now?". Joe carried on: "In the future, it will be like, 'Oh, I met my wife through dancing, technically, and you can watch the moment we met'. It's gonna be really weird. You can like watch the moment that we met, I guess, on camera'." (Image: BAFTA via Getty Images) Dianne has not been shy about dropping significant hints about getting engaged to Joe, previously making a similar remark during her own podcast. On an instalment of Winning Isn't Everything, which she co-hosts with fellow Strictly sensation Chris McCausland, she gestured to her ring finger asking: "What's that one, your best friend finger?". With a touch of humour, Chris quipped that it's the digit "Joe's done nothing with". Dianne agreed, noting "exactly" and the necessity to remind Joe "what that finger holds". She concluded by expressing: "That finger is feeling very lonely, it needs something to weigh it down with." You can catch Joe's appearance on The Chase Celebrity Special on ITV on Sunday, July 13, from 5.40pm to 6.30pm.

Marcus Rashford rejects eye-watering Man Utd exit offer with preference clear
Marcus Rashford knows there is no future for him at Manchester United and is waiting for a move to materialise, with Barcelona his clear preference, despite financial issues Marcus Rashford has reportedly turned down a hugely lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia because he only has eyes for Barcelona. Rashford is in the wilderness in the summer transfer window, having been told he doesn't feature in Ruben Amorim's plans at Manchester United, but without an exit route lined up. Rashford has made it clear that he is keen to join Barcelona ever since concluding a long spell at Aston Villa. While his brief loan spell at Villa ended in injury, Rashford still managed to revitalise his career with four goals and six assists in 17 appearances. But things have moved slowly, largely due to the financial situation at play. Rashford is paid £325,000 per week at United, where he is under contract until June 2028, and Barca do not have the money available to match those terms. United would like to sell to whoever will match their £40million asking price, so will have been excited to hear of interest from the Saudi Pro League. However, Rashford has vetoed a move to the Middle East, according to Mundo Deportivo, who say he is waiting on Barca. READ MORE: Man Utd in race against time to meet Ruben Amorim's deadline to sign 'frustrated' star The report says that Rashford was offered a deal worth €40m (£34m) by an unnamed Saudi side, but he dismissed it out of hand. His representatives have held talks with Barca and the England forward is said to be willing to lower his wages in order to achieve his dream move. The problem is that United want a permanent sale for their academy product and Barca would like to sign him on loan with the option to buy for £30m to £40m. If they accept a loan deal on the condition that Barca pay Rashford's wages that would save them around £17m over a year. Rashford wants a move sorted as soon as possible, knowing that the Catalan giants begin their pre-season on July 24. Barcelona consider Rashford an alternative to Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, who has long been scouted by sporting director Deco. It comes after Barca failed in their pursuit of Nico Williams, who ended up signing a new 10-year contract with Athletic Bilbao after Barca said they were willing to trigger his €58m release clause. Rashford has been working on his fitness by himself, but has issued a clear plea to Barca. Speaking while on holiday in Marbella, he was asked by Spanish YouTube channel XBuyer whether he wants to play with Barca wonderkid Lamine Yamal in the future. "Yeah, sure. Everybody in the world wants to play with the best," the forward replied. "So hopefully, we'll see."
