The pub quiz is believed to have originated from a company called Burns and Porter which would share its quizzes in the 1970s in order to encourage more regular visitors.
The regular pub quizzes saw pub numbers rise from 30 teams a week to a peak of 10,000 teams.
Burns and Porter went on to publish its own line of pub quiz books and would continue to host weekly quizzes.

Middle Sunday was once a time to take stock and relax after the drama and excitement of the first week. But now, thanks to the advancements in grass technology (yes, it's really a thing), we're rattling on through for another day's play. The pick of today's matches are Britain's teenage star Sonay Kartal playing Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova first up on Centre Court, before Cameron Norrie faces Nicolas Jarry later this afternoon on No 1 Court. The defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is in action against the 14th seed Andrey Rublev, while Aryna Sabalenka, the No1 seed who vanquished Emma Raducanu on Friday night, is up against Elise Mertens. There might be a bit of a delay thanks to the good old British summer. Full order of play coming right up.

More info Kate Middleton "fulfilled a long held promise" to her daughter Princess Charlotte, feeling "guilty" for not spending enough time with her due to cancer treatment. The Duchess of Cambridge, an ardent tennis fan and patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club since 2016, is a frequent presence at Wimbledon and is set to return to the Royal Box this year. Last year marked Charlotte's first experience at the esteemed tennis championships, realising a pledge Kate had made to bring her to the finals. Royal biographer Ingrid Seward shared with The Sun: "It was a long held promise that Kate would take Charlotte to the finals as a special treat. Seward also noted that having Charlotte there helped divert attention away from Kate, who, in spite of her health issues, was "determined" to attend Centre Court last year, reports the Mirror. Body language expert Judi James hailed young Royal Charlotte as Kate's "wing-girl" during their public outings. Speaking to The Mirror, Judi James commented: "Charlotte is still showing signs of being her mother's wing-girl. She is now grown up enough to walk independently beside or behind her mother, with Kate only performing a small, loving touch on the back to bring her forward for her handshakes,". She appeared to be tuned into Kate closely, changing her own pose to mirror her mother's while they all stood chatting." Wimbledon kicked off this Monday and will run until Sunday, July 13, with Royal sightings upping the ante of the tennis tournament's prestige. Day one of the competition welcomed Sarah, Duchess of York, accompanied by Princess Beatrice, and Lady Gabriella Kingston made an appearance with philanthropist Robert Denning. Not just a magnet for tennis fans, Wimbledon also attracts a bevy of stars including the recently knighted Sir David Beckham, who took in the action from Centre Court. Joining the celebrity roster, Hollywood star Jessica Alba was seen enjoying the event alongside her daughter Honor Warren. BBC Radio One's Mollie King and English cricket ace Stuart Broad also graced the occasion, contributing to the glitz of the opening day.
