Producers Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani of Puja Films have denied any association with the recently announced film, Operation Sindoor, amid increasing flak. They issued an official statement, asserting that claims linking them to the project are incorrect. The confusion seems to have emerged owing to the name of Operation Sindoor film's production house, Nicky Vicky Bhagnani Films.
The note, which has been posted on Puja Film's official social media handles, can be read: 'Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani are not associated with this project in any capacity whatsoever. Our hearts and minds stand firmly with the Indian armed forces during this sensitive time. We are praying for every soldier who is risking their life to keep India safe." On May 9, production house Nicky Vicky Bhagnani Films and The Content Engineer officially announced a new film titled Operation Sindoor, based on India's strategic response to Pakistan after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. The poster featured a female soldier, applying sindoor to her hair, standing in front of a war-torn background. The poster featured the words 'Operation Sindoor', and the logo closely resembled the one shared by the government. Though no cast details were mentioned, the directors' name prominently featured on the poster – Uttam and Nitin.
The Operation Sindoor film announcement drew flak for its timing, with netizens condemning the makers for their insensivity. On Saturday, director Uttam Maheshwari took to his Instagram story and wrote down a long note reacting to the backlash he received for announcing the film amid growing tension between India and Pakistan.
'My sincere apologies for recently announcing a film based on Operation Sindoor, inspired by the recent heroic efforts of our Indian Armed Forces. The intent was never to hurt or provoke anyone's sentiments," the director wrote.
'As a filmmaker, I was moved by the courage, sacrifice, and strength of our soldiers and leadership, and simply wished to bring this powerful story to light. The project was born out of deep respect and love for our nation and not for fame and monetisation," he continued and then added, 'However, I understand the timing and sensitivity may have caused discomfort or pain to some. For that, I deeply regret."
Uttam also expressed his gratitude to the Indian army and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership and courage during this difficult time. 'This is not just a film, it's an emotion of the entire nation and a social image of the country globally," he wrote.
'Our love and prayers will always be with the families of the martyrs as well as the brave warriors who are fighting on the border day and night to give us a new morning," the director's statement concluded.
