How the ‘Italian Fairy' Spends Her Day Teaching Children to Sing
Simona Rodano is dressed as a fairy, her petite white wings studded with sparkles.
In this costume, Ms. Rodano, 53, has played the role of the Italian Fairy for years, bringing multilingual musical programs to students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
'Language,' she said, 'is a source and resource of dialogue and communication that connects different people, cultures and traditions, planting seeds for a better world.'
Ms. Rodano, a singer and entertainer who has performed at Carnegie Hall, starred in a five-day-a-week variety television show in her native Italy, where she also recorded albums and had roles in numerous stage productions.
After her 12-year run on TV ended in 2010, Ms. Rodano settled in Astoria, Queens. She began teaching Italian to Manhattan toddlers, and one father gave her the fairy nickname.
'For me, every day as the Italian Fairy is a performance,' Ms. Rodano said. 'I don't do it for the applause. I do it to inspire and uplift people. That's what drives me.'
She lives in Astoria with her cat, Stellina, and her husband, Luigi Rosa, 53, who is an assistant vice president at Amtrak.

Newlyweds Bezos and Sanchez gear up for final party at Venice gala
By Sara Rossi VENICE (Reuters) -Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and journalist Lauren Sanchez, flush from their Venice wedding ceremony on Friday, are gearing up for the final day of partying in the lagoon city with scores of celebrity guests from media, fashion and show business. The three-day gala, estimated to cost some $50 million, will culminate on Saturday evening with the closing party in a former medieval shipyard where Lady Gaga and Elton John are expected to perform. Bezos, 61, and Sanchez, 55, exchanged rings on Friday evening on the small island of San Giorgio, across the water from Saint Mark's Square, accompanied by singing from Matteo Bocelli, son of Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. The bride at the ceremony wore a high-necked silhouette dress and a tulle and lace veil by Dolce and Gabbana, which she told magazine Vogue was based on Sophia Loren's dress to marry Cary Grant in the 1958 film Houseboat. Sanchez was also wearing a pair of diamond earrings by Dolce & Gabbana, which, according to Vogue, were lent to her in keeping with the tradition that it brings good luck for a bride to wear something borrowed. Bezos, who is No. 4 on Forbes' global billionaires list, donned a black tuxedo and bow tie over a white shirt. The ceremony had no legal status under Italian law, a senior city hall official told Reuters, suggesting the couple may have already legally wed in the United States, avoiding the bureaucracy associated with an Italian marriage. Bill Gates, Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom, Tom Brady, Jordan's Queen Rania, Oprah Winfrey, Kris Jenner and Kim and Khloe Kardashian, as well as Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner and Domenico Dolce from Dolce & Gabbana were among the 200-250 guests. PROTEST SCHEDULED While the celebrities rub shoulders in the isolated halls in the east of the city, not far away activists will be protesting at what they see as Venice being gift-wrapped for ultra-rich outsiders. A protest march is planned at 5 p.m. (1500 GMT) on Saturday from the railway station to the Rialto Bridge. For days, members of the "No Space for Bezos" movement have been trying to spoil the party, hanging anti-Bezos banners on the iconic Rialto Bridge and laying out a huge canvas in central Saint Mark's Square telling the tech-tycoon to pay more taxes. While some residents and activists see Bezos's extravaganza as a symbol of inequality and arrogance, Venice's businesses and the city authorities have welcomed the event, claiming a major boost for the local economy. "Those who protest are in contradiction with the history of Venice, which is a history of relations, contacts and business," the city's mayor Luigi Brugnaro told Reuters in an interview. "Bezos embodies the Venetian mentality, he is more Venetian than the protesters," said centre-right mayor, adding that he hoped Bezos, who donated 3 million euros ($3.51 million) to local institutions, would return to the city to do business. Brugnaro said Bezos had attached no conditions to holding his wedding celebrations in Venice, and City Hall had only learned about his donations after they had already been made. Bezos, Amazon's executive chair, got engaged to Sanchez in 2023, four years after the collapse of his 25-year marriage to MacKenzie Scott. Fiorucci Spring 2026: A Child's Play
Don't be fooled by the profusion of Minnie Mouse-like polka dots, heart shapes, bows and cute poodles — including two real ones — that Francesca Murri filled her spring 2026 show with. Her lighthearted display came with a subtle political agenda, and nowadays those come with merchandise in turn. In her case, a baseball cap perched on each wooden seat cheekily read 'Make hearts beat again.' That's been both her mission since getting the creative helm of Fiorucci — to reignite that passion for a brand loved by so many for so long — and her commentary on the current geopolitical context. It's really a peculiar moment,' she said backstage. And when things get that complex, one can either summon experts for help or seek advice in an even wiser bunch: children. Murri's show imagined the world seen through the innocent eyes of a child, where the real and surreal blur and cartoonish characters emerge. Lightness, irony and cheeky irreverence converged in a youthful lineup focused on mainly narrow and body-hugging silhouettes with occasional puffed sleeves and ruffled belts adding a comic-like vibe to looks. Sticking to red, white and shades of blue, Murri kept things Pop but upped the sensuality for women and the preppy-ness for men. Under the former category were sheer tops with the brand's signature angels covering the breast; lingerie-inspired bodysuits; a PVC trenchcoat with red piping, and plenty of lip-shaped tops and accessories in glossy finishes. Shrunken tank tops, cropped cardigans, low-waist shorts and pants with a sporty aura defined the latter. Some of the best looks weren't even truly there. Murri tapped artist Artist Janine Zaïs to turn archival striped tees and the Fiorucci cupids into body-painted artworks paired with cool denim pants with a triple-construction on the waist. In general, this show was an improvement in the tricky journey Murri has embarked on to revamp the brand. The collection was more cohesive and the approachable urban setting felt more attuned to the spirit of the brand, too. Staged open-air in the courtyard of the Casa Fiorucci headquarters, the location was turned into Piazza Fiorucci, an imaginative square evoking a place of community-building. It can also be seen as square one to start a march — or a love revolution. Vivienne Westwood Men's Spring 2026: Dandy Meets Granny
The word dandy is being thrown around a fair bit this season, and Andreas Kronthaler offered his interpretation Sunday morning, melding elements of granny's wardrobe, rugby uniforms — and the super-elevated platforms that famously tripped up Naomi Campbell back in 1993. Suffice it to say this was not the usual clientele filing out of Bar Rivoli next to San Babila, where Kronthaler staged an open-air fashion show, marking the Vivienne Westwood brand's first stand-alone men's presentation since 2017, and its first Milan showing. A slowed-down version of Orbital's 'The Box' was among his musical selections. Kronthaler didn't hold back on provocation, sending out a velvet catsuit with a front porthole to exalt the model's six pack and pubes; adding script necklaces declaring Chaos, Sex or Motherf–ker, and accessorizing a balloon-sleeved coat with granny heels, a clutch bag and at least four days of stubble. The collection was all over the place, pinging from handsome double-breasted tailoring to wispy dresses and a tabard densely embroidered with roses. There were toreador pants, and a handsome navy suede bomber jacket, which made for an unexpectedly cool combination. Kronthaler recently told WWD he hopes to stage a 'proper runway show' come January.
