The Proteas will field a trio of debutants in today's T20I Tri-Series opener against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club after stand-in captain Rassie van der Dussen won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Paarl Royals duo Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Rubin Hermann will make the T20I bow along with MI Cape Town allrounder Corbin Bosch.
Both Pretorius and Hermann excelled in last year's SA20 with Pretorius finishing as the competition's leading run-scorer. Hermann finished fifth.

There is also a recall for Bosch's MI Cape Town teammate Dewald Brevis after the 22-year-old enjoyed outstanding IPL and SA20 seasons.
"Preparation has been great, we have been enjoying it here (in Harare). The team is fresh, lot of new guys here and they have brought in a lot of energy," Brevis said.
"It remains the same - just keep it simple and not worrying about hitting in the air. It (Test cricket) made your base even stronger, power and everything comes from there, so just to watch it (the ball) and see where it goes from there.
"Very close to my heart to represent South Africa here, so it is really special. Nice to know that we are going to play NZ as well, makes it more competitive, like a little tournament and super excited."
Proteas coach Shukri Conrad, who will be overseeing the T20I side for the first time since being appointed all-format coach back in May, will also be keeping a close eye on the return of fast bowler Nandre Burger after injury.
Burger has only returned to fitness by playing Major League Cricket in the United States of America.
PROTEAS STARTING XI
Lhuan-dre Pretorius*, Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen (captain), Rubin Hermann*, Dewald Brevis, George Linde, Corbin Bosch, Andile Simelane, Nqaba Peter, Nandre Burger, Lungi Ngidi.

How Sekhukhune United and Generation Schools plan to reshape youth football development
Themba Sithole, Technical Director at Sekhukhune United, Phineas Madisha, Football Manager at Sekhukhune United, Jevron Epstein, CEO of Generation Schools, Tebogo Mapinga, Head of Marketing and Communication at Sekhukhune United and Tshepho Malope, Football Manager at Sekhukhune United, pictured at the their partnership launch. Image: Supplied Football academies are a dime a dozen around the country, most of them selling parents and kids dreams of developing aspiring players to play in some of the world's great football leagues. But many people running these academies turn out to be snake-oil salespeople. That was certainly the case last month when BT Academy in Cape Town was thrust into the news for all the wrong reasons. Next Stay Close ✕ BT Academy came under fire after a group comprising Under-14, Under-19 and girls' soccer teams were left stranded in Spain when return flights were not booked, despite each player paying R50 000 for what was supposed to be an all-expenses-paid trip to the Donosti Cup. The bulk of those kids made it home safely thanks to the help of the community and broadcast personality Tracy Lange, who stepped in after the owner of the BT Academy, Brandon Timmy, left them to fend for themselves. It's tough to regulate these academies, as many aren't affiliated with mother bodies, such as the Safa or Fifa. Safa Cape Town boss Bennett Bailey confirmed that BT Academy wasn't 'authorised to participate in Fifa-sanctioned tournaments.' Yet, parents forked out R50,000 to get their kids to Spain to play in a tournament, hoping that it might be a springboard to greater things. In the end, it turned out to be a nightmare — which, luckily, had a happy ending. Last week, however, Betway Premiership club Sekhukhune United and Generation Schools announced the type of partnership that, at first glance, seems like a much better academy model for young kids aspiring to be professional footballers. Sekhukhune and Generation Schools launched a ground-breaking, fully integrated youth football academy in Gauteng, which, according to a statement, will combine elite-level football training with private school education for up to 144 talented young athletes. All of the kids will enjoy fully funded scholarships. It's a model similar to what we see in rugby, but typically without the involvement of a professional team. Former Model C schools across the country hand out scholarships to many young rugby players, especially those from previously disadvantaged and poorer communities. These players enjoy the best rugby development money can offer, while also gaining a good education. The cream of the crop then enter SA Rugby's Early Player Development (EPD) pipeline, which more often than not leads straight into the Springboks. Sekhukhune United, launched five years ago, has become a sustainable football brand in a country where even legacy clubs have folded under financial strain. Over the past two seasons, they have finished fourth in the league, and this past weekend they qualified for the semi-finals of the MTN8. But Sekhukhune United know they don't have the financial muscle to compete with giants such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and Kaizer Chiefs for the best players in the country. They want to develop their own stars, while also giving those who don't make it a proper education to fall back on. 'We're building a footballing legacy that starts with meaningful investment in our youth. But our ambition isn't just about producing the next generation of professional players — it's about nurturing responsible, empowered young leaders,' Sekhukhune United's marketing and communications head, Tebogo Mapinga, told the media. 'Too often, our brightest talents are lured abroad. "This academy is designed to give them world-class opportunities right here at home. This collaboration will change the lives of the youth from the Sekhukhune region, along with the rest of South Africa.'

Bulls try to remain grounded after flying start to Currie Cup campaign
Pumas coach Jimmy Stonehouse will relish the chance to rattle the high-flying Bulls as his side look to bounce back from their Cheetahs defeat. Photo: Backpagepix Image: Backpagepix Despite their rollicking start to the Currie Cup season, with two bonus-point wins, 112 points scored and only 23 conceded, the Bulls are wary of getting too far ahead of themselves at this early stage of the campaign. Last year's Currie Cup performance remains a stark reminder of the pitfalls of failing to maintain high standards throughout the tournament, after a similarly bright start ultimately yielded no silverware. It is a lesson not lost on Bulls assistant coach Kennedy Tsimba. Video Player is loading. Next Stay Close ✕ 'This is just the first couple of steps in a campaign that has been looking promising, but we do know that each week brings its different challenges,' Tsimba said, at a media conference on Monday afternoon. 'It's about not getting ahead of yourself and understanding that there are teams that are going to give us different questions that we need to deal with. 'But I think the lesson we did learn from last year is that yes, you can play well, but it's about being able to perform at the right time — when you need to peak. As a team, we've got to navigate how we peak and be able to deal with the competition as it gets to the business end.' Tsimba expects the nuggety Pumas to ask the Bulls some uncomfortable questions in Sunday's home fixture. The side from Mpumalanga opened with a win over Griquas but fell to the Cheetahs this past weekend. 'They are an interesting team that will definitely bring a different challenge. There is a whole range of skills that are going to be on show,' he said. 'Whatever questions they ask of us, we've got to be able to execute the answers. And I think we're confident enough to handle that.

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker expecting 'big things' from two-goal hero Sanele Barns
Sanele Barns and Ashley Cupido celebrate Stellenbosch FC's 3-2 victory in the MTN8 quarterfinal over AmaZulu. Picture: BackpagePIx Image: BackpagePIx JOHANNESBURG - Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker is expecting 'big things' from Sanele Barns this upcoming 2025/26 Betway Premiership season. After finishing strongly last season with three goals in the last five matches, the Bafana Bafana midfielder struck the sweet notes from the outset with a well-taken brace to help Stellies overcome AmaZulu 3-2 after extra-time in their MTN8 quarter-final at DHL Stadium on Sunday. It was Barnes' third goal against the Usuthu in two games after also scoring the winner in last season's Premiership clash at Danie Craven Stadium. Video Player is loading. Next Stay Close ✕ Barker feels the former Richards Bay and TS Galaxy midfielder is approaching the form he enjoyed prior to coming to Stellenbosch FC last season now that he has settled in at the winelands club. 'I think if you recall the season before he came to us he was nominated as one of the midfielders of the season, so now having a season (at Stellenbosch), I do believe that he would have settled in, and I'm expecting some really big things from Sanele,' Barker said. 'I believe that he's going to have a big impact for us, as he did today (Sunday).' Barns' first goal was a tap-in from close range, but his second was an outstanding free-kick that rifled into the AmaZulu net from 30 metres out.
