Muslim votes drifted to UDF while Christian ones stayed: CPM report
According to the CPM state leadership, much of the Christian voters who had extended support to the LDF in the 2021 assembly elections did not drift away in the 2024 parliamentary elections. The assessment came as a sigh of relief to the party leadership when it had much to worry about regarding the return of a majority of Muslim votes to the UDF kitty. The party state committee came to this conclusion after verifying both results and voting percentages in Christian-dominated segments.
The review undertaken months ago, after the Lok Sabha election results were declared, stated that while Muslim votes had drifted away from the LDF, the pattern was absent in the case of Christian votes.
'There wasn't much drifting of votes from the constituencies where the Christian community is a formidable force,' the report said.
The review cited Pathanamthitta as an example. Incidentally, the LDF won all the assembly constituencies. In the Lok Sabha election too, the votes were intact.
However, despite the CPM taking various steps to protect the minority rights of the Muslim community, the voters who had supported the LDF in the last assembly election shifted to the UDF, the report is learnt to have said. Over the past few years, many international and national developments concerning the community have happened, Palestine and citizenship amendment, for instance. In these issues, the CPM took a stand supporting the rights of the minority.

He inherited a legacy of erudition and nationalism from his father, Sir Ashutosh Mookerjee, an esteemed Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University and Judge of the Calcutta High Court. Post-Independence, he joined the interim government under Jawaharlal Nehru as Minister for Industry and Supply, where he laid the foundation for India's industrial growth by establishing iconic institutions like the Chittaranjan Locomotive Factory, Sindri Fertilizer Corporation and the Hindustan. However, ideological differences led to his resignation, after which he founded the All-India Bharatiya Jan Sangh (1951) to champion nationalist ideals. According to the BJP's official website, on the issue of the Delhi pact with Likayat Ali Khan, Mookerjee resigned from the Cabinet on April 6, 1950. Later on October 21, 1951, Mookerjee founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in Delhi and became its first president. Mookerjee went to visit Kashmir in 1953 and was arrested on May 11. Throughout Kerr County, hundreds of people have been rescued or evacuated so far, many by helicopter, authorities said. Some areas saw a month's worth of rain in just a few hours overnight into Friday. In a post on X, late on Saturday night (local time), Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem shared that the US Coast Guard has 'saved or assisted' in saving lives of 223 people. 'The number one priority right now is people- making sure we are finding them as fast as possible and are returning them to their families and throughout the process we will get into what damage was done to public infrastructure', Noeam said in a video message shared on her official X account.
