Hamilton Accies Women confirm New Douglas Park stay next season
Hamilton Accies Women have confirmed they will play their games at New Douglas Park next season.
The announcement comes amid a move by the men's team to relocated to Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld, which is causing a lot of controversy.
Hamilton Accies Women have split away from the men's team, and say they have done so to 'ensure the future of the women's club, independently'.
The club won last season's SWPL2, bouncing back to the top flight at the first time of asking.
Hamilton Accies Women say they're delighted to secure tenancy at the stadium, which they say 'has long been a home for women's football in the town'.
A statement issued by the club this afternoon read: 'Hamilton Accies Women are delighted to confirm a formal agreement with Hamilton Stadium Ltd which will see the team continue to play home matches at New Douglas Park for the forthcoming ScottishPower Women's Premier League 1 season.
'Following our title-winning campaign n SWPL2 and promotion to the top flight, securing a stadium that meets elite-level standards was a key priority.
'New Douglas Park has long been a home for women's football in the town, and we are pleased that it will remain so, as we prepare for an exciting season ahead.
'Since 2013, Hamilton Accies Women have operated under the Accies name and ethos, while remaining a financially independent and separately governed organisation.
'This structure has allowed us to focus solely on the growth and sustainability of women's football in Hamilton – from youth development through to elite level.'
The statement continued: 'While we had hoped to continue a collaborative approach with the wider footballing organisation in Hamilton, repeated efforts to establish strategic dialogue and shared planning have not progressed in recent seasons.
'As a result, our committee has taken the necessary steps to secure the future of the women's club independently.'
Manager Robert Watson said: 'This is more than just a pitch to us – it's home.
'We're building something special here, and our players, fans, and staff deserve the platform to keep pushing forward.
'This agreement allows us to do that and ensures top-level women's football remains in Hamilton.'
The club said: 'Our focus remains on representing the town with pride, integrity, and ambition.
'We will continue to raise funds and seek sponsorship that directly supports our players and their development.
'We welcome discussions with businesses and supporters who wish to join us on this journey.
'We look forward to competing in SWPL1 this season and continuing to represent Hamilton Academical in a positive and professional manner – on and off the pitch.'

The SWPL1 newcomers have made a triple signing swoop recently ahead of the new campaign Hamilton Accies Women's boss Robert Watson feels his new signings bring perfect top flight experience to boost their return to SWPL1 this season. After winning SWPL 2 last term, Accies are preparing to host Partick Thistle in their SWPL1 opener on August 17 and Watson has brought in ex-Celtic midfielder Lucy Barclay, ex-Glasgow City midfielder Sarah Gibb and former Hearts defender Shona Cowan to boost the squad. And he said: 'I think our first four new signings of the summer have given us a really good start. These three have added to Georgia Gray from a couple of weeks ago, who is ex-Rangers and has been a standout for Scotland under-19s at centre-back, and can also play in midfield. 'Lucy is one that we tried to get last year but unfortunately she picked up an injury and then spent the latter half of last season on loan at Motherwell. 'But I have been a fan of her for a while. She has come through the youth pathway at Celtic and represented the national team at youth levels. 'She is exactly the player we felt we needed to increase the depth of quality in the squad, with people who are able to deal with the demands of the top division. It also helps that she is a good player as well! 'Sarah is similar in that she had a contract at Glasgow City a couple of years ago and then decided to move on and find her own way. It has maybe not quite worked out as well as she would have thought at Motherwell, but she is a very good midfielder and we are very excited to get her in. 'Shona was contracted to Hearts for a season and came through the youth pathway and was out at Partick Thistle last season. 'We only really had two full-backs last season, so full-back cover was pretty essential this season. The fact she has experience in the top division is important.' On their opening with the Jags at New Douglas Park next month, Watson said: 'When we came up last time, we played Celtic on the opening day and it gives you that sense of occasion playing one of the big guns. But Partick are a very good side and one we've got to be honest about and say we've got to try and take something from them. 'It is a 10-team league this season, so as soon as you are not playing one of the full-time teams you've got to be thinking about pressing the issue in these games to get something. 'From their view, they will be happy getting us the newly-promoted team. But we are looking forward to the challenge and we're excited for it.'

Hamilton Accies boss targets 'half a dozen' new signings for League One title tilt
John Rankin is preparing his new-look side for life at Broadwood in League One Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin says he wants up to six new players ahead of the new league season. The Broadwood club have been linked with the return of defender Ricki Lamie, and addition of former Stenhousemuir forward Matty Yates and ex-Dunfermline stopper Aaron Comrie, who are believed to have agreed terms. Rankin also says 'two or three' youngsters from the club's academy will also be promoted to the first team, ahead of their League One title tilt. The Accies gaffer said: 'I don't think we need many at all. If we add four or five players to what we have, and if we can get half a dozen that would be ideal. 'I always try to improve, to make the squad better and bring in better players, and I'll be striving to do that. 'I think the more talent we can have in the squad, the better it becomes, but the thing we can't forget is this league is about graft, hard work, the fundamentals and winning individual battles, so we need different qualities within the squad, and we have that. 'We have leaders here, but I would like a few more, to make sure that we can take accountability and show those characteristics on the pitch.' Hamilton kept 16 players from last season, with Steven Bradley, Dean Lyness, Tony Gallagher, Fergus Owens, Stephen Hendrie, Dylan McGowan, Cian Newbury, Lee Kilday, Ben Williamson, Barry Maguire, Connor Smith, Kyle MacDonald, Kevin O'Hara, Oli Shaw, Scott Robinson and Stuart McKinstry all staying on. Rankin said: 'Retaining players and keeping them at the club was important to what we;re trying to do. 'When I met a lot of them over the summer, we were in-between stadiums, in and out of various hotels and different locations, and that becomes hard, because players know they're moving stadiums, but it's not quite confirmed. 'When we sat down and spoke, the players were committed to the football side of things, they wanted to stay. They enjoy the club, the way they're made to feel, and playing for the jersey and the supporters. 'They wanted to stay, and play for ourselves, so we were delighted with that, and we're making sure that we keep that core squad together. 'We were competitive last season in the Championship, and keeping the majority of them together was important to us. 'Obviously boys have wanted to move on, some were out of contract and others had different clauses to go, which is their choice. 'By my count we lost 11 last season, with loans, but I'm delighted that we've been able to keep the bulk of it. 'There's a lot of potential there, a lot of talent, and we need to make sure we continue to get the most out of them and drive them to new levels, but also make sure we build their confidence so we can start the season the way we want to.' Rankin says having young players Cian Newbury, Fergus Owens and Ben Williamson back from injury will be like three new signings. He said: 'Cian had a great debut season, but needed to play consistent games, so went out on loan to Dumbarton and won a promotion, did really well, came back and did his cruciate, unfortunately for him. 'He's joining in pre-season just now, wee bits of running, some bits of ball work, so hopefully he's not too far away. 'Fergus we will need to be a wee bit more patient with, he'll be slightly longer, but he will be like a new signing. 'Ben is building himself up, so hopefully we get him back soon and get them on the pitch. 'They will be like three new players, but we can't expect them to go from doing nothing for six, seven, eight months to a year to foot to the floor straight away. 'We need to be patient with them, to make sure they have the right bodies and strength to help them on their pathway to try and recover. 'But I will be delighted to get them back, they will be big players for us this season, and ultimately they missed the bulk of last season.'

Hamilton Accies Women plan to keep name and branding
Hamilton Academical WFC have no plans to change their name or branding, as they believe an existing agreement remains men's and the women's clubs are not legally affiliated and run financially women's side received consent to use the same name and badge as the men's side from the previous men's club board. However, earlier this month, they were contacted by the current club's board and ordered to change their name and stop using the club board, who took control of the men's club two years ago, said they had plans to start a new women's club and academy. BBC Scotland understands that no such formal application has as yet been made to the SWF, required for such a move.A source close to the women's side has told BBC Scotland that the old board of directors fully support their stance and are adamant they should not be making any source also told us that the women's club put in over £100,000 into Hamilton Academical as part of their working partnership for over a decade and the old board recognise that of this money came from the hiring of New Douglas Park, where the women's side will continue Accies WFC have had no further contact from the men's club's board of directors since that request over a name change was women's side won the SWPL 2 title last season, bouncing straight back up to the top flight after relegation in Scotland has contacted the club's current board for comment.
