Bonobo, Rosey Gold to Play Break The Block Party in Dubai Feb 1st
Jan 29, 2025
British producer/DJ extraordinaire Bonobo is set to headline 'Break The Block', a block party series seizing City Expo Dubai to celebrate the city's counter-culture through a fusion of food, music and uninhibited creative performance on February 1st.
Organised by UAE's creative collective Brag World, 'Break the Block' draws inspiration from the block party movement, an artistic endeavour aimed at reclaiming public spaces through collective revelry.
Opening for Bonobo is the Lebanese electronic virtuoso Wass, known for his pumping futuro-arab sound, a mixture of contemporary Arabic music, vocal melodies and infectious synth hooks. The night will also include Soulection's residents; the Netherlands-based R&B artist and DJ JAEL and the South African DJ/producer Rosey Gold. Following suit, Le Hash will be commanding the decks with some Jamaican vibes, fusing dancehall, amapiano, reggae and baile funk, along with Lebanese-Armenian DJ Mathea.
The event will take place at Al Wasal Plaza. For tickets, head to Break the Block's official website.

Ragheb Alama banned from performing in Egypt after concert kiss
The Musicians Syndicate in Egypt issued a statement announcing the suspension of artist Ragheb Alama from performing in Egypt and his summons for investigation following his recent behavior during one of his concerts at the North Coast. The head of the Musicians Syndicate, Mostafa Kamel, said in a statement: 'For two days, I have been following shameful behavior that violates all Egyptian customs, traditions, and societal values. We have never been accustomed to this in our country before, and we will not allow it to be repeated. Egypt's stages have been graced by some of the greatest artists in Egypt and the Arab world, both artistically and in value. They have never been, and never will be, a breeding ground for kisses, undisciplined gestures, and disgusting hugs.' He added: 'With my sincere respect and appreciation to Mr. Farid Bou Said, the head of the Musicians Syndicate in our sister country, Lebanon, and to all our brothers and sisters in the beloved Lebanese people, we have decided the following': Summon Alama to the headquarters of the Musicians Syndicate in Egypt for investigation into his deliberate violation of Egyptian norms, customs, and traditions. We will also suspend his work permit in Egypt pending his appearance for investigation at the Syndicate's headquarters. Contact the officials of the Chamber of Tourism Establishments to meet with them or their representatives to make our joint decision to summon the owner of the tourist establishment that hosted this concert, which represents a clear and deliberate violation of all Egyptian values, norms, customs, and traditions. Alama commented on the decision to suspend him over what happened during his recent concert, after a video surfaced showing a fan kissing him on stage. The singer said in a phone call with Al-Nahar TV: 'I was talking to my friend, artist Mostafa Kamel, the head of the Musicians Syndicate, and I explained the situation to him. What happened was that the girl grabbed me in her joy as I was coming off the stage and kissed me. The kiss wasn't on my mouth. I swear to God, that didn't happen.' He affirmed his complete respect for the Egyptian audience and people, adding, 'I hold the organizers responsible because people were going to the theater. I respect the audience and I am well aware that tourism in Egypt is a great responsibility.' 'I contacted the head of the syndicate and I respect the syndicate's decision and place myself at its disposal. God willing, I will visit the syndicate next week.'

Ragheb Alama Suspended by Musicians' Syndicate After Concert
The Musicians' Syndicate in Egypt suspended Ragheb Alama and called him for investigation after a concert drew criticism for violating social norms, though his team says no notice has arrived. Jul 22, 2025 Lebanese singer Ragheb Alama has been suspended from performing in Egypt, following a decision from the Musicians' Syndicate citing actions during a recent North Coast concert. The statement referenced what was described as behaviour that contradicts Egyptian customs and values, adding that Alama would be summoned for investigation. The Syndicate framed the incident as a breach of the traditions upheld on Egypt's concert stages, referring to the legacies of Arab musical icons such as Umm Kulthum and Abdel Halim Hafez. The decision sparked immediate debate across social media and news outlets, where users questioned the standards being applied and what precedent this might set for future performances. Khodr Alama, brother and manager of the Lebanese artist, said in a televised interview that they had not received any formal notice about the suspension or the investigation. The artist's team suggested they first became aware of the news through online reports. The Musicians' Syndicate has become increasingly active in recent years, especially in regulating performances and setting conduct guidelines. This case adds to a growing list of public decisions involving regional performers on Egyptian stages.
