In 2023, the year I had joined college, we had gone on a picnic to Budge Budge. The seniors had organised the outing for juniors. I was new to the city and I was all excited about the picnic.
While travelling by train to Budge Budge, I was introduced to Monojit Mishra.
On reaching the spot, a bagaan baari, we found that two AC rooms on the first floor of the house had been kept for us, one for the girls and the other, for boys.
From the time we reached, Monojit started drinking and some of the boys joined him around noon. They were all sitting downstairs in a big hall. I remember, it was around 5.45 pm that my father had called.
I went to the boys' room to talk to him as the room was empty at that time. That room had an attached verandah, and I went out there to talk. Suddenly, I turned around to see Monojit striding up to me. He grabbed my hair, dragged me inside and pounced on me.
I kept begging him to let me go but he snatched away my phone. He pinned me down and held my hands so tightly that I was not in a position to move. He took that chance and tore my innerwear's strap.
I froze and started crying. He called me 'hot' and bit me so hard that blood started dripping from my earlobes. The bite marks on my neck remained for at least a couple of months.

The more I screamed the more Monojit blasted the volume of the music with a remote control so that no one could hear me.
The brutality continued for 40 minutes until someone knocked on the door, and he was forced to open it. As he left, I ran downstairs, washed off the blood and went and sat on a bench.
My ear was still bleeding, but I covered it with my hair. Just then, he again came up to me and groped me from behind, but I managed to escape. The torment continued till 6.30 pm.
My batchmates and seniors sensed my discomfort, and after I confided in them, they asked me to lodge a complaint. I decided to lodge a complaint with the college authorities and police the very next day. But Monojit's gang called me to the union room and told me, "Dada has a lot of power.
It will take just one minute to finish off your family. You live so far from home—if someone throws acid on you, you might not even survive.
" They seemed to have gathered information on my family and I was too scared to go to police. Monojit's gang would call me up on WhatsApp after midnight to threaten and abuse me. Eventually, the frequency of the calls subsided, but the memory of it all kept haunting me.
The trauma was such that I could not attend classes for one-and-a-half months. I left Kolkata and went back to my home, where I remained holed up. The fear of them harming my family and attacking me with acid kept me from speaking out against Monojit.

Bhojpuri star nabbed in ₹3.5 lakh credit card scam – Here's how to stay safe from similar scams
In a shocking turn of events, YouTuber and Bhojpuri actor Dilip Kumar Sahu was recently arrested by the Dahisar Cyber Police from Mumbai on suspicion of being the mastermind behind a ₹ 3.5 lakh credit card fraud operation, as reported by News18. Sahu is being investigated by others from Uttar Pradesh, and it seems that he was involved in similar scams in other Mumbai suburbs such as Kandivali and Goregaon. Regardless of Sahu being arrested, the case highlights the need for financial awareness and that scams are increasingly sophisticated. Apart from this, investigations show that Sahu may have perpetrated other scams in Mumbai suburbs, such as Kandivali and Goregaon. This case highlights the importance of financial vigilance and the complexity of apps and digital scams. As the number of digital payments increases, frauds are also on the rise. Below are ways to avoid becoming a victim of credit card fraud , like the one Sahu is reportedly involved in: 1. Do not share CVVs, PINs, or OTPs: If you are ever asked for your account PIN, CVV or OTP by any bank, retailer or financial institution that you have not initiated contact with, do not share it. Your money is in jeopardy the minute you share your PIN and CVV, even to someone you think you trust. 2. Avoid cash for swipe deals: Any deal that provides you with low commissions up front and guarantees immediate payment for legitimate card swipes is a red flag. Avoid these types of unregulated scams at all costs. 3. Transact only using verified platforms : Only use verified payment gateways, fintech platforms, and bank apps. Avoid doing any business with dodgy internet sellers, WhatsApp forwarders, or anyone in the street. 4. Review card statements regularly: Review your bank and credit card statements regularly to look for unusual transactions. Reporting fraud early can mitigate losses and help settle disputes sooner. 5. Enable email and SMS alerts: Enable real-time alerts for every transaction you perform, as they help you to identify unauthorised use and report it immediately. 6. Report fraud immediately: If you believe that there is any fraud: Block your card immediately through customer assistance or mobile banking. Go to your nearest cybercrime police unit or file a report online at . . Get a documented acknowledgment from your bank or police regarding your complaint. The Dilip Kumar Sahu credit card fraud case is an important reminder that scams can come from any source, including public figures. As digital finance becomes a way of life in India, scammers are becoming more ingenious. Faridabad police arrest 2 men from Delhi in Rs 93 lakh share market fraud case
The Cyber Central Police Station team in Faridabad Monday arrested two people from Delhi in connection with a share market fraud case involving Rs 93.51 lakh. The accused were produced before a court on Tuesday and sent to judicial custody. The arrested men were identified as Ankit, a resident of Gori Gama village of Vaishali district in Bihar who resides at TC Camp near Pacific Mall at Rajouri Garden in West Delhi, and Amit Kumar, a resident of Raghubeer Nagar in West Delhi. Ankit drives an e-rickshaw, while Amit works at a footwear shop. According to a police spokesperson, a resident of Ozone Park Apartment in Sector 86, Faridabad, had lodged a complaint alleging that on July 1 last year he was added to a WhatsApp group where fraudsters provided 'investment tips'. The complainant said they convinced him to open a demat account with 'DAIWA SECURITIES AI Smart Demat' for pre-market trading and investments in the US market. The person initially invested Rs 10,000 to test the account and withdrew Rs 1,000, gaining confidence in the scheme. Subsequently, he invested a total of Rs 93.51 lakh, the complaint said. However, communication with the fraudsters soon ceased, leading him to realise that he had been cheated. Acting on the complaint, the police team arrested the two men. Investigations revealed that Ankit, the account holder, provided his bank account to Amit, who further passed it on to others involved in the scam. Around Rs 8 lakh of the defrauded amount was traced to Ankit's account. In April, the Faridabad police had arrested 11 women and a man allegedly involved in a fake call centre operation that defrauded victims of at least Rs 35 lakh across multiple states by pretending to provide credit card services. The accused were caught from the call centre which had been operating from Janakpuri in West Delhi since March 2024. The case came to light following the registration of a complaint by a 29-year-old resident of Shyam Colony in Ballabhgarh near Faridabad on March 12.
