Sahal and Suhail help MBSG prevail over KBFC
Former KBFC man Sahal Abdul Samad and youngster Suhail Bhat scored in either half, while Sreekuttan M. S. got a consolation goal in added time for the Blasters.
After over 20 minutes played without an attempt at either end of the pitch, it was Sahal who made full use of MBSG's first chance in front of the goal.
Debutant Salahudheen Adnan K. showcased some silky footwork on the right to get past Huidrom Naocha Singh and dribble into the box before laying the ball off to Sahal inside the six-yard box.
The midfielder did well to take a touch away from R.V. Hormipam before producing a composed chip past Sachin Suresh to take the lead.
The Mariners doubled the lead in six minutes into the second half when Ashique Kuruniyan skipped past Hormipam on the left wing before delivering an inch-perfect pass into the middle. Suhail, the youngest player on the pitch for MBSG, made a run ahead of Drincic and guided the ball into the back of the net.
KBFC got one back through Sreekuttan in the fourth minute of added time, who drilled the ball into the net after reaching a defence-splitting through ball from Jesus Jimenez.
The result: Kerala Blasters 1 (M.S. Sreekuttan 90+4) lost to Mohun Bagan Super Giant 2 (Sahal Abdul Samad 22, Suhail Bhat 51).

Liston Colaco scored two goals and assisted the third, which Suhail Ahmad Bhat converted as the Mariners beat the Black Panthers. The all-Indian affair did get off to a timid start as the Indian coaches at the touchline looked on. It soon turned tense as either crossbar was rattled. Mohammedan's Ashley Alban Koli and Mohun Bagan's Suhail Ahmad Bhat were the culprits just after the 10-minute mark. Vishal Kaith too had a scare soon after a shot from Sajal Bag, but Dippendu Biswas did well to calm things at the back. The moment of magic arrived in the 23rd minute. Liston Colaco weaved through the defenders before being chopped down by Joseph Lalmuanawma at the edge of the penalty box. The referee blew his whistle as the new number 7 got up and took the ball. He paused as Anirudh Thapa seemed to hover over the free-kick. But it was Liston who struck, and the ball sailed over the five-man wall and into the top corner. The Mariners drew blood first. With the half trickling to a close, the game came to life when Tangva Ragui went for the same ball as Apuia but ended up being a tad late. The Mohun Bagan keeper's leg got the telling touch that kept his side's lead intact. In the added minute of injuries, Liston was brought down inside the penalty box while trying to receive a pass from Thapa. Pukhrambam Dinesh Meitie received a yellow card for his challenge. The star winger stepped up and slotted the ball calmly into the back of the net for the Mariners to get a comprehensive 3-1 victory. Durand Cup: Mohun Bagan Coach Warns, ‘Not Going To Be Easy…' Against Mohammedan

Mohun Bagan Super Giant kick off their Durand Cup campaign underway in the 134th edition of Asia's oldest football tournament against city rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club in the second Kolkata derby of group B at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Thursday. Unlike other Indian Super League sides, who don't exactly have top-division football to look forward to yet, Mohun Bagan have AFC Champions League 2 come September. Foreigners will join the squad in the second week of August, just in time for the knockouts if they qualify. In the interim, assistant coach Bastab Roy has the reins and has at his disposal a neat-full-strength Indian squad., most of whom will be available for the first game of the season. Most stars have been training for just over a week and should be ready to play some part in the game – like Ashish Rai, Manvir Singh, Liston Colaco, Deepak Tangri, Apuia, Abhishek Suryavanshi, Anirudh Thapa, Glan Martins, and Vishal Kaith, who will donning the captain's armband, as Subhasish Bose regains match fitness. Bastab Roy, though, is not getting complacent. 'A key feature of Mohammedan SC is that they are a young team and they don't depend on any individuals and play as a team," Bastab was quoted as saying during a press conference on Wednesday. 'They have already played a game while we are going to play our first one. From that standpoint, we need to work harder to win the match. It's not going to be easy." Goalkeeper Kaith echoed his coach's sentiments, saying: 'They (Mohammedan SC) have already played, so their fitness level will be better. No, we can't take the match as an easy one." 'The Durand Cup format is such that only the group winner and two second-best teams will advance to the quarterfinals. So, one loss may jeopardise your chances," Bastab added. Mohammedan SC, meanwhile, will smarting from their 1-2 loss to lower-division side Diamond Harbour FC in their opening group game. Without any star Indian names or foreign recruits, the upcoming game may again just prove too big a challenge. The Black Panthers boss Mehrajuddin Wadoo is not too flustered but has emphasised his young side's need or resilience and teamwork. 'I'm happy with the way the young players are giving their best. Results may not be in our control. The way we conceded the goal (against DHFC) in the last minute was extremely unfortunate and luck was also not on our side. But we've to accept this and move on," Mehrajuddin was quoted as saying.
