‘I was a model, Mohammed Shami forced me to…', claims cricketer's estranged wife Hasin Jahan
Speaking to news agency ANI, Hasin Jahan alleged that Mohammed Shami forced her to quit her profession and become a housewife.
'I used to model and act before I got married. Shami forced me to quit my profession. He wanted me to live only a housewife's life. I loved Shami so much that I happily accepted it... But now I have no earnings of my own. Shami has to bear all the responsibility for our maintenance. That is why we had to approach the court when he denied this,' Hasin Jahan told ANI.
'Thank God there is a law in our country which orders people to bear their responsibilities... If you are entering a relationship with someone, it is not written on their face that they have a poor character, are a criminal, or will play with your and your daughter's future... I too became a victim like this...' she added.

The Calcutta high court has ordered Mohammed Shami to pay ₹ 4 lakh every month to his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, and daughter.
A bench of Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee passed the order on a plea filed by Hasin Jahan and directed the Indian cricketer to pay ₹ 1.5 lakh to her wife and ₹ 2.5 lakh to her daughter monthly.

Jahan had moved the high court against a district sessions court's order directing the cricketer to pay ₹ 50,000 to his wife and ₹ 80,000 to her daughter in 2023.
During the hearing in the high court, Hasin Jahan's legal counsel had argued that Mohammad Shami's financial circumstances could support a higher alimony amount. According to his income tax return for the financial year 2021, Shami's annual income was approximately ₹ 7.19 crore, or around ₹ 60 lakh per month.
Jahan worked as a model and cheerleader for the Kolkata Knight Riders before marrying Shami in 2014. The couple gave birth to their daughter in 2015.
In 2018, Jahan accused Shami of domestic violence, dowry harassment and match-fixing. She claimed that the pacer had received money from a Pakistani woman. Jahan had also alleged that her husband stopped payment to her to run her family expenses.

KOCHI: In a major step towards upgrading its law enforcement capabilities, Kerala Police is set to revamp its arsenal with the induction of advanced firearms and equipment. As part of its 2025-26 modernisation plan, the police department plans to procure 530 new weapons and over three lakh rounds of ammunition. Among the prospective acquisitions are 100 INSAS rifles, 100 AK-203 rifles, 100 Heckler & Koch submachine guns, 30 high-precision sniper rifles, and 200 pistols. The sniper rifles under consideration include the Indian-made Saber 338 and the German-made Heckler & Koch PSG1 — both known for their long-range accuracy and used widely by elite forces. The procurement of 200 Glock or Masada pistols is also in the pipeline. A fund of Rs 7.75 crore has been earmarked for weapon purchases this financial year, a senior police officer told the TNIE. 'One of the key focus areas in our modernisation plan is the procurement of new-generation weapons for our specialised units. Commando units and special operation groups (SOG) will be prioritised. A tender for 100 AK-203 rifles has already been floated. The aim is to strengthen the firepower and tactical capabilities of our forces,' the officer said. Kerala Police began using Heckler & Koch submachine guns in 2020, initially deploying them with the Thunderbolt Commando units. Earlier this year, the force also procured around 100 TriCa rifles manufactured by the Ordnance Factory in Tiruchirappalli. Additionally, a small number of Ishapore sniper rifles have been inducted since 2021. 'Now, we are planning to induct more advanced sniper rifles. The Saber 338, developed by an Indian firm and currently used by elite military and paramilitary forces, is one of the options. We are also evaluating the Heckler & Koch PSG1, a globally renowned sniper rifle. Around 30 sniper rifles are being considered.

Uttarakhand CM orders crackdown on misuse of govt schemes, FIRs registered
Taking strong action against the misuse of government welfare schemes, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to identify and act against individuals who have fraudulently availed benefits using fake documents. Acting on his instructions, two separate FIRs have been registered at Kotwali Nagar and Thana Rajpur police stations in Dehradun. The action follows complaints submitted to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun by the District Supply Officer and the Ayushman Bharat Department. Investigations revealed that a number of individuals with annual incomes exceeding ₹5 lakh had obtained ration cards meant for economically weaker sections. These fake ration cards were then used to illegally generate Ayushman cards and claim subsidised health services under the scheme. Upon verification by the Supply Department, several ration cards were found to be fake, prompting swift legal action. CM Dhami has instructed that no ineligible person be spared and that strict legal action be taken to prevent the abuse of public welfare resources. Earlier on Saturday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Dhami flagged off the first group of pilgrims for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Tanakpur, marking the official commencement of the sacred journey. The group of devotees arrived in Tanakpur on Friday night and was welcomed by the Chief Minister at the Tourist Rest House (TRC). He personally interacted with the pilgrims before sending them off with best wishes. While speaking to ANI, CM Dhami said, "The group for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has moved forward from its main stop, Tanakpur. The group of devotees arrived here last night... All arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of the pilgrims, a smooth journey, and no inconveniences." Highlighting the challenges of the yatra, CM Dhami stated that the route remains vulnerable to landslides and harsh weather conditions, but the state government and associated corporations have ensured that all necessary support is in place. "This is an extremely challenging journey,... and routes prone to landslides, but despite that, all facilities have been provided by our state corporation... The atmosphere is very enthusiastic. All the pilgrims are full of zeal... I wish everyone a successful journey," the CM added. On June 20, after a five-year gap, the revered Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through Sikkim also recommenced with the ceremonial flagging off of the first batch of pilgrims by Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur from the Nathula Pass. The batch comprises 33 pilgrims, accompanied by two nodal officers and one doctor from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), making a total of 36 members. Ganjam youth abducted by militants in Mali
Berhampur: In a harrowing turn of events, 28-year-old P Venkataramana, a native of Samarjhola village under Hinjili block in Ganjam district, was among the three Indians abducted by Al Qaeda-affiliated militants in the West African nation of Mali. The incident unfolded after a brazen armed assault on July 1 at Diamond Cement Factory in Kayes, where Venkataramana is employed. A technician by profession, Venkataramana had been working with Blue Star, a Mumbai-based company, for the past six months. His assignment to Mali, under the firm's contract with Diamond Cement, turned tragic when gunmen stormed the factory premises, taking him and two fellow Indian workers hostage. The news has plunged his family into deep anguish. His distraught mother, P Narasamma, rushed to Hinjilicut police station and submitted a written plea on Friday, fervently seeking the intervention of the authorities for her son's safe return. The family's repeated attempts to contact him have failed, heightening their anxiety. A representative from Blue Star reached out to the family from Mumbai, advising them not to panic, yet providing little reassurance. The family's fears were soon confirmed by official sources. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in a strongly-worded statement, condemned the abduction as a 'deplorable act of violence' and urged the Malian government to take urgent steps for the safe release of the captives. The Indian Embassy in Bamako is reportedly maintaining liaison with Malian authorities, local security agencies and the factory management to trace the whereabouts of the abductees. In its advisory, the MEA has also appealed to all Indians residing in Mali to remain vigilant and exercise the highest degree of caution, given the surge in extremist activity in the region.
