A new video game set in "Philabieldia" is getting love from Philadelphia residents

By naming its game world "Philabieldia," did a Japanese video game developer just give a shoutout to the real-life city of Philadelphia? That's how some local gamers are interpreting a recent trailer. Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct event on Thursday, announcing several new games coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 console from partner developers. And one game by Square Enix, "The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales," is getting some attention from Philadelphians. "This is Philabieldia, a continent overrun by beast tribes," a narrator says in a trailer for the game, as the name "Philabieldia" appears on the screen. Social media posters screenshotted away, noticing the closeness to the City of Brotherly Love immediately. "It's always sunny in Philabieldia," said many an X user. Others opted for the retro reference, "in West Philabieldia, born and raised." "Still in disbelief over the mystical Square-Enix world being named Philabieldia. Can't wait for DLC in Clenver, Bolorado," the streamer Coney posted. "It's an hour away from New Jebdey," remarked another user. To be sure, beasts do roam here, and they are ready to defend their Super Bowl title. But the world of Philabieldia seems rather medieval, lacking skyscrapers or any massive arena where Philabieldians and New Jebdeyans alike could gather and watch some Eagles stomp other beasts like Bears and Lions. If you are craving a video game set in the real Philadelphia, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 features a LOVE Park level (as it was before the park's 2016 redesign). The first-person shooter "Homefront: The Revolution" is set in a Philadelphia that is occupied by the North Korean army, and you play as a rebel protagonist trying to start a revolution and take the city back. "The Adventures of Elliot" is a role-playing game featuring a graphical style similar to other Square Enix hits, "Octopath Traveler" and "Bravely Default." A demo of the game is already available for download on the Nintendo eShop, with a full release set for 2026.

Moomins Enter the Cuteness Pantheon, With Help From Gen Z

The Moomin family — Moominpappa, Moominmamma and Moomintroll — live in Moominvalley, where they welcome all friends, visitors and vagrants for adventures and sweet treats. Lately, though, the milk-white hippo-esque characters created by the Finnish author and artist Tove Jansson, have taken over the central branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. With huge, friendly eyes and protruding, snuffly snouts, they peer from balconies and dance across giant pink and green floor displays. On a recent summer afternoon, Meera Sastry, who was visiting from Los Angeles, stopped by to see the exhibit on the recommendation of a college friend. 'I remember Moomins growing up, from online — I was big into Tumblr,' said Ms. Sastry, 23, pausing to admire a photograph of Ms. Jansson by the Finnish coast. 'Of course they were cute, like Sanrio characters. But I liked that they were also anxious, and had little narratives.' Ms. Sastry hadn't read any of the nine books featuring the characters, she admitted: 'I'll have to get on that.' Others browsing the exhibit, including an art teacher on a road trip with her friends, had also first learned of these lovable creatures online, where Moomins have gone the way of Snoopy and Miffy — decades-old cartoon characters who have been rediscovered and embraced by a younger generation and have spread widely through merchandise and online content. Taylor Swift's boyfriend Travis Kelce gives fans rare glimpse into private life with pop star

Travis Kelce posted several photos of his "adventures this offseason" on social media, many including his girlfriend, Taylor Swift. The pop superstar and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end could be seen dining out, enjoying the snow, ice skating and drinking wine in the mountains in the pictures Kelce shared on Instagram. In the first photo, the couple, who began dating two years ago, posed in white on a boat while wearing matching caps that said "captain" and "first mate." In another, they both looked chic in black at a restaurant while Kelce's phone could be seen at the bottom of the shot. He appeared to have a photo of the two of them as his wallpaper. The couple were decked out in winter wear during a snowy getaway with friends, including sports reporter Erin Andrews and her husband, former hockey player Jarret Stoll, in another picture. They were likely on their March trip to Montana, People reported. Another snapshot showed the two in the snow, laughing while Kelce looked like he was about to punt the camera. He and Swift could also be seen dressed up at an event with friends and sipping wine in the mountains. Kelce, who is in the "Happy Gilmore" sequel out this weekend, wears a "Happy Gilmore" hat in one of the photos. Kelce also included a number of photos with his brother Jason, his mother and father Donna and Ed, the "Cruel Summer" singer's brother Austin Swift and even his Tight End University program pals. While this was the first time the professional athlete has posted photos of his girlfriend on social media, he has gushed about her in the past. "You want to keep things private, but at the same time I'm not here to hide anything," Kelce told Barstool Sports' "Bussin' With The Boys" podcast last year. "That's my girl. You know what I mean? That's my lady. So it's like, I'm proud of that." He added, "So it's not like I'm sitting here trying to juggle how to keep this under wraps. You just don't want to let everybody into your personal life and be able to comment on it knowing that everything she does is getting a headline."
