UP politician slapped by former companion during bhoomi pujan, video goes viral
Mahendra Rajbhar, the national president of the Suheldev Swabhiman Party, was assaulted by his former companion Brijesh Rajbhar in broad daylight during a Bhoomi Pujan event and the celebration of Maharaja Suheldev's Vijay Diwas in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday.A video of the incident went viral on social media. While speaking to the media, Mahendra Rajbhar said that during the Bhoomi Pujan programme, Brijesh allegedly garlanded him and then slapped him several times when it was his turn to speak. "I was the chief guest at the Bhoomi Pujan event in the Jalalpur police station area. At the end of the event, when it was my turn to speak, Brijesh Rajbhar garlanded me and assaulted me," said Mahendra.He also alleged that Brijesh carried out the assault at the behest of Om Prakash Rajbhar of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party and a minister in Yogi Adityanath's government.Brijesh, however, has refuted all the allegations levelled against him and accused Mahendra of taking funding from the Samajwadi Party and abusing him during the programme.advertisement"We were celebrating the Vijay Diwas of Maharaja Suheldev when Mahendra Rajbhar arrived. Triple suicide in Lucknow: Ajai Rai slams UP govt, cites rising desperation among poor
Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajai Rai on Monday strongly criticised the BJP-led state government following the alleged suicide of a cloth merchant, his wife, and their teenage daughter in Lucknow. The family reportedly consumed poison, highlighting what Rai described as worsening economic despair under the current administration. Speaking to IANS, Ajai Rai expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and pointed to a pattern of similar incidents since the BJP came to power in the state. "This is a very sad and condemnable incident. If I go to Lucknow, I will visit the family," Rai said. "In this government, no business is running well. People are feeling helpless, and this kind of helplessness is pushing the poor to such extremes — even taking their own lives and those of their loved ones." He added that such incidents are becoming alarmingly common. "When a person sees only darkness ahead, no way out, and no support, then tragedies like this occur. Ever since the BJP government came into power, especially in UP, there's been a rise in such heartbreaking events." Rai blamed the dire state of small businesses and economic stagnation for the growing sense of despair among citizens. "Nothing is selling, trade is dead, and banks are pressuring people for repayments. People can't pay rent. The government is only focused on its own agenda, not on public welfare. There's no accountability left," he said. Rai further responded to AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi's recent statement expressing interest in joining the Mahagathbandhan alliance to contest the Bihar Assembly elections against the BJP-led NDA. "The people of the INDIA Bloc will collectively decide who to include. Right now, the alliance is strong in Bihar and gaining momentum daily," he noted. Rai further reacted to comments made by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who had directly criticised Acharya Dhirendra Shastri, also known as Bageshwar Baba, over alleged exorbitant fees charged by certain kathavachaks (religious storytellers). "I wouldn't say all kathavachaks are the same. Many are scholars who narrate stories without asking for money or making elaborate arrangements. Not everyone is like Dhirendra Shastri. Some individuals cast a shadow on the entire community, but most do their work with sincerity and devotion. People offer donations voluntarily, which is a different matter altogether," he said. Rai further reacted to the current relationship between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, brushing aside any speculation of tension. "They have their work, and we have ours. Everything is fine between Congress and Samajwadi Party," he asserted.

"There are many Kathavachaks who charge ₹ 50 lakh. Can anyone invite Dhirendra Shastri to their home for a katha? That baba will take money under the table. Please find out if he does or not. I'm sure he doesn't do it for free," Akhilesh Yadav can be heard saying in a video going viral. Dhirendra Shastri is a self-styled spiritual preacher who became a sensation over the past years. Until the time of writing this report, there has been no reaction from Dhirendra Shastri on Akhilesh Yadav's remarks. Row over kathavachaks Violence erupted in Etawah's Dandarpur village last week after two kathavachaks were allegedly humiliated, tonsured and forced to rub their noses at the feet of women, after villagers found out that they were not Brahmins. However, villagers alleged that the kathavachaks had concealed their identity when discussions were underway for their discourse in the area. According to an organiser who filed an FIR against the two kathavachaks, had their caste identity been disclosed earlier, they would not have been engaged. Reacting to the incident, Akhilesh Yadav had lashed out at the BJP, saying the party was attempting to divide Uttar Pradesh along caste lines. "The BJP is deploying its 'planted people' with strategic surnames from neighbouring states to carry out its infiltrative politics and disturb social harmony in Uttar Pradesh," Yadav was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. The incident had triggered widespread protests by members of the 'Ahir Regiment', a socio-cultural body. Violence erupted after members of the body protested outside the Bakewar police station and shouted slogans. While some were dispersed by the cops, others engaged in a heated exchange with security personnel, leading to violence. 'The force acted with restraint and reinforcement was called in,' said circle officer Atul Pradhan. Six people were detained in connection with the case.
