Dikgacoi backs Mngqithi's bold title ambitions at Golden Arrows

Golden Arrows assistant coach Kagiso Dikgacoi has thrown his support behind Manqoba Mngqithi's bold ambition to mount a Betway Premiership title challenge, saying the veteran coach has already transformed the club's mentality behind the scenes.
Mngqithi returned to Arrows late last season after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns, reuniting with a club where he built his name in the early 2000s.
He took over a side battling for consistency and managed to steady the ship, helping Abafana Bes'thende secure a 12th-place finish — two points shy off a top-eight spot.
Now, with a full pre-season under his belt, Mngqithi has made it clear that he's aiming higher.
For Dikgacoi, who played under Mngqithi during his first spell at Arrows before securing a move abroad, the ambition is refreshing and familiar.
'We obviously didn't do well last season until he came in, and he immediately demanded intensity from the players,' said Dikgacoi. 'That shifted the mentality a little in the changeroom.'
Although Arrows missed out on a top-eight finish, the improvement under Mngqithi's short tenure was evident. And now with the off-season to fine-tune the squad and structure, the technical team believes the club can push into new territory.
'Unfortunately we couldn't make the top eight like we'd hoped, but he is someone that wants to win things,' Dikgacoi added. 'He's won cups and league titles, and that's the mentality he's instilling in us.
'Hopefully we're gonna be able to do that this season with the players we've got and the players we've also let go.'
Arrows have undergone subtle changes in personnel, but the biggest shift has come in the tone and culture within the squad.

The 33-year-old has joined Babina Noko after Orlando Pirates opted not to exercise the extension on his contract, which expired at the end of June. The Durban-born Timm will now reunite with coach Eric Tinkler, who played a key role in his development during their time together at Maritzburg United. Kaizer Chiefs news: Marijuana, alcohol and rehab Miguel Timm during a training session with Orlando Pirates. Image: IOL Timm lifted five titles during his stint with the Buccaneers, including the MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup under coach José Riveiro. Despite his early influence, Timm struggled for minutes during the 2024/25 season, making just three appearances in all competitions for Orlando Pirates. Kaizer Chiefs to sign 11th striker since 2020? Sekhukhune United had previously expressed interest in signing him back in 2022, but the Sea Robbers secured his signature instead. Now, the timing has aligned, and Timm becomes one of Sekhukhune's key additions ahead of the new campaign. His move was finalised after becoming a free agent on 1 July, and he is believed to have signed a one-year deal with an option to extend. 'SEKHUKHUNE UNITED FC confirms the signing of Miguel Timm, from ORLANDO PIRATES,' the club announced via social media. 'Miguel brings valuable experience and a positive attitude. Welcome to Babina Noko! He will now compete for a starting spot alongside Thabang Monare and Siphesihle Mkhize. Banyana held to a draw by Tanzania in WAFCON clash

Photo: Sydney Mahlangu/BackpagePix Banyana Banyana came back from a goal down to salvage a 1-1 draw against a 10-woman Tanzania outfit in a Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) clash at Honneur Stadium in Ouja on Friday night. The draw saw Banyana retaining their spot at the top of Group C, level on four points with Mali who played to a 1-1 draw against Ghana in the other group match played earlier on Friday. South Africa coach Desiree Ellis made a couple of changes from the team that won 2-0 against Ghana. Just like the opening game, Banyana didn't start the game well and there were a lot of stray passes and poor decision-making especially in the final third. Tanzania's goal came from a mistake in the middle of the field from the defending champions. Noxolo Cesane received a pass from Karabo Dhlamini and instead of returning the ball to her she tried to make a turn and was dispossessed. She then committed an unnecessary foul and from that resultant free kick captain Opa Tukumbuke put Tanzania in the lead with a header. Jermaine Seoposenwe tried her luck with a long-range shot, but his shot was saved by Najiati Idrisa, who made sure that her side took their slender lead into the half-time break. Ellis made two changes at the start of the second half, taking out Cesane and Kgalebane Mohlakoana and replacing them with Hilda Magaia and Lebohang Ramalepe respectively. Banyana took the game to Tanzania in the second half as they pushed forward in search of the equaliser. Kaylin Swart, who was partly to blame for Tanzania's first goal after coming out of her area and then got caught in no man's land by Tukumbuke's looping header, almost gifted them with the second one in the 57th minute when again she failed to reach the ball, but Dhlamini was there to clear the danger. Fikile Magama came close to finding the equaliser for Banyana in the 68th minute with a long-range shot, but Idrisa did well to parry the ball over the crossbar for a corner kick. From that resultant set piece, Bambanani Mbane netted the equaliser for South Africa with a header. Following a VAR review, Tanzania were reduced to 10 women in the 84th minute after Winifred Gerald was shown a straight red card for a reckless tackle on Linda Motlhalo. Banyana, however, were unable to capitalise on their numerical advantage as Tanzania hanged on to hold them to a draw and get their first point of the tournament.

Why AmaZulu FC released 17 players: A calculated reset for the future
AmaZulu FC say their decision to release 17 players was a calculated reset to reverse a worrying decline and back head coach Arthur Zwane's vision to return the club to the top. Speaking at the launch of the 2025 KZN Premier's Cup this week, club spokesperson Philani Ndlela said the mass clear-out was not just a reaction to recent results, but a strategic move shaped by where the team wants to go. 'If you look at the last five seasons, the club finished inside the top eight three times and twice outside. We played one cup final, which we lost, and you can see that in the last five seasons we did not do as well as we expected – in as much as we got an opportunity to play in the CAF Champions League,' said Ndlela. 'But our graph kept going down instead of going up, so it was important for us to have a turnaround.' AmaZulu ended the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign in sixth place, securing a spot in the MTN8. While that finish could be seen as progress, Ndlela insisted it wasn't enough for a club with ambitions of lifting trophies. The arrival of Arthur Zwane last season — initially as co-coach alongside Vusumuzi Vilakazi — marked the beginning of that turnaround. Vilakazi has since departed, and Zwane has been trusted to lead a long-term project centred on youth and tactical evolution. 'When we saw coach Arthur Zwane bringing in new and fresh ideas in the team, it was important for us to go back to the drawing board to bring in younger players that are going to help us get back to the top,' Ndlela explained. Alongside Zwane, AmaZulu have bolstered their technical team by roping in Simo Dladla as an assistant coach.
