The all-new Dodge Charger Daytona and Ram 1500 have taken top spots in the 2025 MotorWeek Drivers' Choice Awards, with Charger Daytona earning honors as Best Sport Coupe and Ram 1500 claiming the award in the Best Fullsize Truck category.
The all-new Dodge Charger Daytona, the next generation of Dodge muscle, is available now at dealerships and represents the start of a multi-energy Dodge Charger lineup. The Ram 1500 roars in with a redesigned exterior, a luxurious interior, a bold new powertrain under the hood and technology at nearly every turn.
'The Dodge Charger Daytona is our choice as Best Sport Coupe of the year, the first time an all-electric model has risen to that honor,' said John Davis, creator and host, MotorWeek. 'From the outset, Dodge promised that buyers would not have to accept any compromises just because their hallmark muscle car traded in its classic HEMI® V-8 for electric propulsion. Indeed, from its exterior styling and interior layout, to its amazingly fitting virtual sounds audibly underscoring its rocket-like acceleration, you would be hard pressed not to think there was a chorus of pushrods still pulsating under the Charger's long, wide, flat, '60s era hood. When all is said and done, the Dodge Charger Daytona is an all-wheel-drive muscle car first and an EV second.
'Our Best Fullsize Truck award goes to the redesigned Ram 1500. Ram has been on a mission to redefine all expectations of what a fullsize truck should be for decades. First came big-rig styling, but that was quickly followed with unexpected and highly innovative features like RamBox cargo storage and, of course, ditching rough riding leaf springs for coils. Not to mention raising expectations as to what a user-friendly truck cab should be with all the latest tech. Now, the new Ram takes innovation to the next level starting with ditching the fabled HEMI V-8 for another big-rig stalwart, an inline-six, here in turbocharged form and known as the Hurricane. Beyond that, this Ram can be outfitted for every role from work buddy to city slicker, with available features like 22-inch wheels, four-corner air suspension, 23-speaker sound system and even quilted leather seats. Yet, it can still tow nearly six tons. Equal parts rugged and refined, the new Ram 1500 is also a new force to be reckoned with in full-size pickups.'
For the last 44 years, MotorWeek has paused halfway through its television season to take stock of the automotive business and to judge the best new cars and trucks of the year. Judging includes driving, researching and performing instrumented testing of more than 150 new cars and trucks every year, and from those reviews MotorWeek chooses a final list of the best vehicles in their class.
MotorWeek Drivers' Choice Awards winners are selected by their adherence to pertinent criteria and standout nature across multiple distinct categories, each reflecting a facet of their respective segments and current consumer trends. An episode of MotorWeek featuring all award winners is scheduled to air beginning Feb. 8 (check local listings) on PBS and on Feb. 16 on MAVTV.

8 Popular Car Brands To Stay Away From in Retirement
Buying a car in retirement isn't just about style or performance; it's about long-term value and reliability. With a fixed income and fewer daily driving needs, retirees should prioritize vehicles that are affordable to maintain over time. Unfortunately, some popular car brands come with surprisingly high upkeep costs that can drain your savings. Consider This: Read Next: If you want to protect your budget and peace of mind, consider not just the cost of your new car, but also the cost to keep it running through your retirement. According to CarEdge, these are the top eight most expensive car brands to maintain along with some of their pricier 2025 models. Ram You might have favored certain makes and models in the past, but now that you've entered a new chapter in your life, it might be time to reevaluate. The industry average for maintenance costs for popular brands is $8,303, making Ram's over $20,000 estimate a steep bill to consider. Moreover, CarEdge found that there is a 68% chance that your Ram will need a major repair within 10 years, which is considerably worse — over 43% worse — than other auto manufacturers studied. Average 10-year maintenance costs for Ram models: $21,595 Ram 3500 10-year maintenance costs: $27,445 Ram 2500 10-year maintenance costs: $27,423 Ram 1500 10-year maintenance costs: $19,357 Jeep It's wise to research car maintenance costs, so you don't accidentally buy a new car that requires pricey upkeep that will eat into your fixed income and Social Security benefits. Ram TRX Set to Return with V-8 Power and Brash Off-Road Prowess
Summary The mightyRam TRXis officially Antonio Filosa confirmed the comeback during the company's Q2 financial call, calling the supercharged V-8 truck a strong contributor to both volume and profit margins. While Filosa didn't lock in production dates, insiders cited by Mopar Insidersclaimthe new TRX could begin rolling off the line as early as January 2026. Originally powered by a 6.2L Hellcat V-8 making 702 hp, the previous TRX set a high bar for off-road muscle trucks. With Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis now also leading Stellantis's SRT performance division, expectations are high for the next-gen TRX to raise the horsepower stakes even further. While design and drivetrain details remain under wraps, the next TRX will likely stay true to its formula: supercharged V-8 power, rugged styling and extreme off-road capability. The model's return also signals a broader strategy shift at Ram, which has confirmed the HEMI V-8 will rejoin the 1500 lineup in 2026 and teased 25 new product announcements within 18 months. With relaxed fuel economy standards under the current U.S. administration, Ram is doubling down on V-8 performance — and the TRX is just the beginning.

Learn About All The Forgotten Cars Of The 1980s This Weekend With MotorWeek's '80s Retro Review Marathon
The early 1980s were the tail-end of the darkest age in the automotive industry: the Malaise Era. The time when emissions regulations choked out the fire breathing big-block V8s of the '60s and American cars were so neutered even the great Corvette didn't come standard with 200 horsepower. By the mid-'80s, America was more accustomed to downsized unibody cars, but American car companies had a tough time competing with the quality and reliability of imported cars. There were several popular American models that have since faded into the ether, but if you want to expand your repertoire of obscure 1980s cars, MotorWeek has you covered. MotorWeek's YouTube channel is hosting a Retro Review Marathon this weekend, and it's exclusively featuring the show's reviews between 1981 and 1990. If you're preparing for an appearance on Jeopardy, or like me you're simply excited to learn about old cars, the MotorWeek '80s Retro Marathon is streaming live now through Sunday evening. Read more: These Are The Most Forgettable Cars Obscure Car Heaven When I first tuned in, I saw the MotorWeek team putting a 1982 Volkswagen Quantum wagon through its paces on a cone course, a model that I wasn't certain ever came to the United States. If you think you're already familiar with all the obscure and unremarkable '80s models that have faded from memory, the same episode that features the VW Quantum discussed two cars that you'd be hard-pressed to find experts on: the Dodge 024 and the Ford EXP. Again, models that many people who weren't alive to see on showroom floors likely don't know about. If you feel that modern cars have lost the plot, I implore you to give the '80s Retro Review Marathon a watch. After a few road tests, you're likely to thank your lucky stars that automotive technology has advanced as much as it has since then. Even some of the best cars on the market had double-digit 0-to-60 times, panic stops that turn into uncontrollable skids, and those wretched sealed-beam headlights. Whether you're learning about these marvels of the 1980s for the first time or you're taking a stroll down memory lane, tune in to the MotorWeek '80s Retro Review Marathon this weekend for some nostalgic entertainment.
