Islanders vs Kings 1-4: LA Kings stifle Islanders with perfect penalty kill
Philip Danault and Quinton Byfield scored within a five-minute span to put the Kings ahead, while Drew Doughty sealed the win with a short-handed empty-net goal. Vladislav Gavrikov opened the scoring in the first period as Los Angeles went 8-for-8 on the penalty kill.
Goaltender Darcy Kuemper stopped 33 shots and benefited from two potential Islanders power-play goals overturned for goalie interference. The win extended the Kings' streak to three and moved them within a point of the Edmonton Oilers for second place in the Pacific Division.
Anders Lee scored in the second period for New York, which concluded its three-game West Coast trip at 1-2-0. The Islanders, now five points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final Eastern Conference wild-card spot, received 28 saves from Ilya Sorokin.
Gavrikov broke through with 4:27 left in the first, beating Sorokin with a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle. The Islanders briefly pulled even at 8:37 of the second when Lee's shot from the slot slipped past Kuemper.
Danault put the Kings back on top just 37 seconds later, capitalizing after Warren Foegele forced a turnover deep in New York's zone. Byfield extended the lead to 3-1 with an unassisted short-handed goal after Islanders defenseman Tony DeAngelo broke his stick attempting to receive a pass.
Lee appeared to bring New York back within a goal late in the second, but his tally was overturned following review. With Sorokin pulled in the final minutes, Doughty iced the game with a short-handed empty-net goal at 1:17 remaining.

Desmond Bane trade to Orlando Magic: Did Magic give away too much to Memphis Grizzlies?
The Orlando Magic made a significant move to boost their scoring and shooting by acquiring guard Desmond Bane from the Memphis Grizzlies. In exchange, Memphis received Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony and four first-round draft picks spanning 2025, 2026, 2028 and 2030, along with an option for a pick swap in 2029. 'We are very thrilled to welcome Desmond to the Orlando Magic family,' said Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman in a statement released. 'Over his five years in the NBA, Desmond has distinguished himself as one of the elite guards in our league, and we look forward to his shooting, IQ and wide-ranging skill set in helping our team take a step forward," he added. Bane, 26, averaged 19.2 points this season for Memphis, shooting 39 per cent from three-point range. The guard is expected to provide much-needed perimeter scoring to a Magic team that has made the playoffs in each of the last two seasons but has struggled to find consistent shooting. Orlando finished last in the NBA this year in three-pointers per game (11.2) and three-point percentage (31.8). Known for his ability to ignite offence, Bane scored 30 or more points in 29 regular-season games, including two performances with more than 40 points. He is also an 88 per cent free-throw shooter and averaged 1.2 steals per game, fitting well with Orlando's defensive style. Desmond Bane will wear #3 🪄 — Orlando Magic (@OrlandoMagic) June 16, 2025 The Grizzlies, meanwhile, have undergone changes after firing coach Taylor Jenkins late last season and being swept in the first round of the playoffs. 'Disappointing season, a lot to sort through here, 48 wins, good for an 8 seed,' said Memphis general manager Zach Kleiman. 'But who cares? It's not good enough.' Caldwell-Pope, a two-time NBA champion with Los Angeles and Denver, was a regular starter for Orlando this season, averaging 8.7 points on 44 per cent shooting. Anthony, in his fifth pro season, averaged 9.4 points but had an inconsistent role. The deal represents Orlando's commitment to improving its offensive capabilities around star forwards Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner as the team aims to become a serious contender in the Eastern Conference.

Messi stars as Miami rips Montreal
Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez each scored two goals to spark Inter Miami to a 4-2 Major League Soccer victory over visiting Montreal on Wednesday. Argentine superstar Messi opened the scoring in the 27th minute and assisted on Suarez's first goal in the 68th minute for a 2-0 edge. Uruguayan star Suarez scored again in the 71st minute before Montreal's Dante Sealy answered in the 74th minute. Messi struck again in the 87th minute before Victor Loturi pulled one back from the Canadian club two minutes into stoppage time. Miami jumped to sixth in the Eastern Conference with seven wins and five drawn from 15 matches while East doormat Montreal slid to 1-10 with five drawn. Miami had lost twice and drawn twice in the past four matches. "We had to take responsibility for the poor results. It's a matter of correcting to regain confidence," said Suarez, who added the victory "means a lot ... We have to continue to gain confidence in this kind of game." Inter coach Javier Mascherano was concerned about injuries to defenders Gonzalo Lujan, Tomas Aviles and Jordi Alba. "We needed to cut the negative dynamic. I'm happy," he said. "Unfortunately (the victory) is tarnished by the departure of Gonzalo, Jordi and Toto. "In the case of Gonzalo and Jordi it was something muscular, which tomorrow we will see how far it is. In the case of 'Toto' it was the ankle that swelled in a stomp. Maybe he could continue. He wanted to continue." Overall league leader Philadelphia won 2-1 at Toronto as the Union rallied late after Norway's Ola Brynhildsen scored in the 75th minute. Nathan Harriel netted the equalizer for the Union in the 86th minute and Germany's Kai Wagner scored the game winner two minutes into stoppage time. The Union improved to 10-3-3 for a league-high 33 points while none of the three clubs just behind them on the table could manage full points, second-place Cincinnati drawing 3-3 with visiting Dallas and third-place Nashville drawing 2-2 at fourth-place Columbus.

Tyrese Haliburton makes NBA playoffs history in Pacers vs Knicks Game 4
Tyrese Haliburton delivered a historic triple-double to power the Indiana Pacers past the New York Knicks 130–121 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals on Tuesday, giving Indiana a commanding 3–1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Haliburton finished with 32 points, 15 assists, and 12 rebounds without committing a single turnover — a first in NBA playoff history since the league began tracking turnovers in 1977–78. "I was just trying to be aggressive," Haliburton said post-game. "I felt like I let the team down in Game 3. I could have been so much better. I felt like I responded the right way today." The point guard's performance came in front of his father, John Haliburton, who returned to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for the first time since an incident involving Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo in Round 1. Indiana also welcomed former Pacers stars Jermaine O'Neal, George Hill, and Lance Stephenson, alongside celebrities Triple H, 50 Cent, John Mellencamp, and Jelly Roll. Across the floor, Knicks supporters Spike Lee, Timothée Chalamet, and Ben Stiller watched on as the Pacers took control early. Pascal Siakam added 30 points while Bennedict Mathurin scored 20 off the bench. Indiana shot 51% from the field and 40.6% from deep. 'Just getting back to us,' said forward Aaron Nesmith. 'Playing our game and doing what we do best.' From Haliburton's 14 assists, the Pacers scored 33 points on 63% shooting. His zero-turnover game drew praise from coach Rick Carlisle. 'It's pretty remarkable,' Carlisle said. 'There will be a new statistical category, perhaps, named after him somewhere down the line.' The series now shifts back to New York for Game 5 on Thursday, with Indiana just one win away from its first NBA Finals appearance since 2000.
