Chandigarh skating association felicitates 24 Asian c'ship medallists
A total of 26 skaters from Chandigarh, participating in the roller hockey and in-line hockey disciplines, were part of the Indian contingent.
Chandigarh skaters contributed significantly to India's medal tally with two gold, two silver, and one bronze medal in roller hockey and inline hockey events.
Sanjay Tandon, chairman of the Standing Committee of the administrator's Advisory Council on Sports, was the chief guest. CRSA president Arun Walia and general secretary Harpreet Singh were also present.
'Roller skating is among the popular sports in Chandigarh, and city skaters have always made the country proud at the international level. The inclusion of cash awards in the sports policy has further boosted the sport in the city, and the performance in South Korea is a testimony to that,' said Arun Walia, President, CRSA.
Apart from the skaters, CRSA also honoured its joint secretary, Sanan Mahajan, who served as the manager of the Indian contingent, and Harpreet Singh, who was the coach during the Asian championship.
In roller hockey, senior girls who won the gold medal are Manika Mahajan, Yashika Sharma, Vinnati, Himanshi Kaushal and Anshika Sharma. While senior mens' team, which managed to win the silver medal, comprises of Gurshaan Singh Aujla, Angadbir Singh, Jujhar Singh and Naman Gussain. Meanwhile, the under-19 team, comprising of Adhiraj Shaunak, Damanpreet Singh, Daksh, Mayank, Dhruv Rathee, Ritesh Kamboj, Saarthak and Ansh Sharma, won the gold medal at the championship.
In the In-line hockey event, junior girls' team, consisting of Angel Kaushik, Sonam Singh and Jasmine Saini clinched the silver medal. Skater Nanki participated in the senior women category.
The junior boys team, consisting of Jobanjeet Singh, Abhyuday Thakur, Paraspreet Singh and Sanidhya Tiwari, won the bronze medal. Meanwhile, Karanveer Singh Kang participated in the senior men category.

Harry Brook capitalised on Mohammed Siraj's schoolboy error to slam his 10th Test hundred on day 4 of the fifth Test against India at the Oval on Sunday. Riding on Brook's hundred, England inched closer to another huge victory over India and a series victory in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. England are already leading 2-1 in the series. After coming in the middle after the dismissal Ollie Pope, Brook got a second life when Siraj stepped on the boundary line after completing the catch, much to the dismay of all Indians in the ground. Getting a top-edge off Prasidh Krishna's short ball, the red cherry went straight to the Indian pacer on the boundary. Just after Siraj completed the catch, one his legs touched the boundary rope, in an attempt to balance himself. Brook was on 19 at that time. As a result, Brook forged a 195-run stand with Joe Root to take the game away from the Indians. The partnership by Root and Brook was also the second highest for England against India in the fourth innings. An unbeaten 269 runs by Root and Jonny Bairstow at Edgbaston in 2022 still tops the list for England. Brook's hundred also made him the first batter after legendary Sir Don Bradman to complete 10 Test hundreds in 50 innings or less. Bradman completed the feat in 23 innings. Brook was finally dismissed for 111 off 98 balls when he holed out to Siraj at mid-off. His innings consisted of 14 fours and two sixes.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has said Test cricket needed a series like the 'Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy'. The five-match Test series has gone down to the wire with four of the matches ending in the final session of Day 5. Writing in the Daily Mail, Hussain said, 'This series has been feisty and played with a bit of needle and I like that.' The inaugural edition of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has lived up to the expectations it generated before the series. While many expected England to run away with the series, the Indian team, which is undergoing transition in both batting and bowling has put up an admirable fight. Apart from winning the second Test at Edgbaston, they pushed England in the first Test at Leeds as well as Lord's. 'In general, the fight between the teams has made it much more watchable. It has been great TV,' Hussain wrote. 'We talked at the start of the summer about two iconic series coming up for England, India at home and then Australia away. When you build a series up, sometimes it can be a bit one-sided and deflating. But this has not disappointed and I think Test cricket needed a series like this.' While the first two Tests were played without much drama, beginning Lord's there were some heated battles in the middle which continued in the press conferences as well. 'There have been so many memorable moments. There was that over at Zak Crawley on the last night at Lord's. You had Pant strolling down the stairs on one leg at Old Trafford, hobbling around as he batted with a broken foot. Here at the Oval, we saw Joe Root – the most mild-mannered, calm individual – going off at one after some verbals from Prasidh Krishna. Then there was Sai Sudharsan, another calm person, walking into the England huddle and having words with Duckett. I have enjoyed every single minute of it,' Hussain said. Hussain, though, said the scheduling and the conditions that were on offer in the previous four Tests could have been better. 'The only downsides have been the pitches and the schedule. Make no mistake, this series needed this Oval pitch. Although every Test has gone to the last session, it has slightly been too much in favour of the bat. Here, ball has dominated bat just enough to make it an incredibly watchable match,' Hussain wrote. Hussain then went on to agree with England captain Ben Stokes that the scheduling of the matches could have been better. While two Tests had a gap of more than week, there was just three-day gap between the fourth and fifth. 'As for the schedule, five Tests in six weeks has been too tight and the dates have also been odd. I agreed with Ben Stokes when he questioned why there have been two long turnarounds between Tests, of eight or nine days, and then two short ones of three days. It would be better to have a five-day break between them all,' he wrote.
