Drug dealer congratulates police on £1.3m cocaine bust
David Sherratt, 48, was found with one of the biggest drugs hauls seized by West Midlands Police following a high-speed motorway pursuit.
Sherratt can be heard telling officers during his arrest: 'Good day at the office, isn't it, for you? Good day at the office, lads.'
Officers attempted to pull over his black Peugeot 3008, which was believed to be linked to drug dealing, near Alvechurch in Worcester. However, he sped off from the scene and led officers on a 120mph chase along the M5 and M42 motorways.
Sherratt's vehicle lost a tyre before it was eventually boxed in.
Police arrested him and found Sports Direct bags in the boot of the car, each carrying 18kg of cocaine, with a wholesale value of £1.3 million.
Sherratt was also seen trying to smash his phone against the dashboard. Phone messages revealed he had been involved in the collection of a further 135kg of drugs – worth up to £5 million in total.
He would deliver them to customers around the country, earning up to £200 a kilo delivered – and was expecting to earn £20,000 in six weeks for his work.
On Monday last week, Sherratt, of no fixed address, was jailed for 12 years and nine months at Birmingham Crown Court.
He pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine, possessing the drug with intent to supply and dangerous driving.
The court heard Sherratt had 12 convictions for 19 offences dating back to 1995.
He was jailed for six years in 2016 for conspiracy to supply class A drugs and more than four years in 2020 for further drugs offences.
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Cooke, of the Regional Organised Crime Unit for the West Midlands, said: 'This is a major recovery of drugs that would have ultimately been sold on the streets of the UK and caused untold misery.
'Sherratt's attempt to get away from our officers was dangerous and put other road users at risk, but great work by the road crime team meant the pursuit was brought to a safe conclusion.
'He played a significant role in the distribution of drugs around the country, but will now be spending years behind bars.'

British pensioner arrested on suspicion of smuggling 60kg of cannabis resin from Spain
A British pensioner has been arrested trying to smuggle more than 60kg of cannabis resin from Spain. Police detained the 69-year-old unnamed Briton after discovering the drugs in a 'hidden' compartment built into the roof of a UK-registered vehicle at Ceuta, Spain's North African enclave, on Sunday evening. The Civil Guard said the car was bound for the port of Algeciras, near Gibraltar. Photos released by the authorities showed dozens of packages containing 62.3kg of cannabis. The packages were branded with names including "dream gelato" and "cereal milk". Authorities searched the vehicle after a sniffer dog helping with routine checks grew visibly agitated near the car, prompting a more extensive search. The suspect has been taken into custody. He will later be brought to court under an alleged drug trafficking offence. A spokesman for the Civil Guard in Ceuta said: 'A total of 62.3 kilos of cannabis resin was discovered in a secret compartment in the roof of the vehicle. 'The driver, a British man born in 1956 who was registered as a UK resident, was subsequently arrested. 'The suspect will now go before a court in Ceuta as the suspected author of a crime of drug trafficking. 'The drugs have been seized and handed over to a central government delegation and the vehicle is now under the supervision of the courts.'

Drivers who filmed M6 crash scene warned they 'will be dealt with'
Drivers caught filming the aftermath of a crash on the M6 will be "dealt with" after their "incredibly dangerous and illegal" actions, police have people, including a six-year-old girl, were seriously injured in the crash on the southbound section of the motorway near Lancaster on Police said they spotted about six drivers on the northbound side of the motorway filming as they drove past after the incident.
