Farooq Abdullah takes a ride in Vande Bharat from Srinagar to Katra, calls it
Nowgam Railway Station is a crucial part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) project, connecting Kashmir to Jammu area and the rest of India.
Speaking to reporters, Farooq Abdullah expressed his happiness and termed this train as 'a huge blessing' for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He added that the train will benefit the people of J-K and tourists a lot.
The National Conference chief said, 'I am very happy that I am travelling on this train to Katra. This is a huge blessing for us and is going to benefit tourists a lot. It is difficult to travel by road, and prices for air travel are extremely high. This train is going to benefit us a lot.'
The two Vande Bharat Express trains from Katra Railway Station, directly connecting the Jammu division with Kashmir, were flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6.
The new Vande Bharat Express train will take just about three hours to travel between Katra and Srinagar, reducing the existing travel time by two to three hours.
These trains have been specially designed to operate in the cold climatic conditions of the Kashmir Valley.
The train will run through the Anji Khad Bridge, which is India's first cable-stayed railway bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, which is the highest railway arch bridge in the world.
Prime Minister also inaugurated the world's highest railway arch bridge - 'Chenab Railway Bridge' and India's first cable-stayed 'Anji Bridge' in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district. This marks a major milestone in Jammu and Kashmir's railway connectivity.
The architectural marvel Chenab Rail Bridge, situated 359 metres above the river, is the world's highest railway arch bridge. It is a 1,315-metre-long steel arch bridge engineered to withstand seismic and wind conditions. A key impact of the bridge will be in enhancing connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar.
All these projects are part of the ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.
The USBRL project is 272 kilometres long, constructed worth around Rs 43,780 crore, includes 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges. The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country, aiming to transform regional mobility and drive socio-economic integration. This is the first Indian bilateral visit at the prime ministerial level to Argentina in 57 years. It is Modi's second visit to the country as prime minister; he had visited in 2018 for the G20 Summit. It also marks the third stop on the prime minister's five-nation visit. Upon his arrival at the hotel, the prime minister was greeted by chants of "Modi, Modi" and "Bharat Mata ki Jai" from members of the Indian community, with whom he also interacted briefly. A cultural dance performance was also held to welcome him. "Celebrating the enduring friendship between our nations. PM @narendramodi has landed in the vibrant city of Buenos Aires, Argentina on an Official Visit. He was accorded a ceremonial welcome on arrival at the airport. In his departure statement, the prime minister said that Argentina is a key economic partner in Latin America and a close collaborator in the G20 and that he looked forward to discussions with President Javier Milei, whom he had met last year. "We will focus on advancing our mutually beneficial cooperation, including in the areas of agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment," Modi had said. He reached here after concluding his two-day visit to Trinidad and Tobago, during which the two countries inked six agreements to expand bilateral ties. The prime minister was conferred with 'The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago', becoming the first foreign leader to receive the Caribbean country's highest civilian honour. Kurnool: AndhraPradesh Industries, Commerce, and Food Processing Minister TG Bharath has stated that welfare schemes introduced by the State Government have successfully reached every household over the past year. The minister was speaking during his visit to Ashok Nagar in Kurnool city as part of the 'First Step Towards Good Governance' campaign on Friday. As part of the programme, he conducted a door-to-door campaign in the 45th municipal ward, interacting directly with residents. He spoke to women, senior citizens, and students to assess the implementation of welfare initiatives and sought specific details on the schemes received by each household. The initiative aims to provide citizens with transparent information on the government's developmental and welfare measures while addressing any existing concerns. 'The direction from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is clear — from the grassroots to the top leadership, we must connect with the people and explain the progress made in one year of governance,' said Bharath. 'We are not only highlighting achievements but are also committed to resolving public grievances on the spot. The government is determined to deliver on every promise made, and more welfare schemes will be launched soon.' Addressing local development, the minister said efforts are underway to widen key roads in Kurnool city, particularly in front of the medical college, where narrow stretches have led to recurring accidents. He also announced that affected shop owners would be allotted commercial space at a subsidized rent of Rs.300 per month for 25 years, with provisions for renewal.
