Pelicans Rookie Derik Queen Sidelined at Least 3 Months After Wrist Surgery

Fox Sports18-07-2025
New Orleans Pelicans rookie Derik Queen is likely to miss at least the start of training camp after having surgery Friday to repair a torn ligament in his left wrist.
Queen was hurt on Tuesday while playing in an NBA Summer League game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Pelicans said he would be evaluated again in approximately 12 weeks, which would be after camps have begun.
The procedure on Friday was to address a torn scapholunate ligament. It was performed by Dr. Steven Shin in Los Angeles.
The 6-foot-9 Queen was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year after averaging 16.5 points for Maryland. His buzzer-beater against Colorado State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament sent the Terrapins into the Sweet 16, where they lost to eventual national champion Florida.
He was taken with the No. 13 pick in the draft by Atlanta, and the Pelicans acquired his rights in a trade.

Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers offers perfect response to Terry Bradshaw

As the offseason dragged on and it was unclear whether quarterback Aaron Rodgers would choose the Pittsburgh Steelers, another NFL team, or retire, fatigue began to set in. This prompted folks to speak candidly when asked about the situation as it dragged on until late June. One of those people was Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw. He made some very pointed comments about Rodgers as he led the Steelers along, saying that Rodgers should "stay in California, chew on bard and whisper to the gods." NFL analyst Kyle Brandt asked Rodgers about Bradshaw's comments at training camp and Rodgers gave a perfect response. "I whisper to the gods every single day," Rodgers said. "I have known Terry [Bradshaw] for a long time, being part of Fox. Terry is a legend—he's an absolute legend… but Terry, like a lot of people, doesn't know me. So he has an idea of what he thinks about me, based on what I have done—the documentary, what I have said, the darkness retreat, or whatever the h*** you want to talk about." We need to keep in mind that Bradshaw has been known to speak out of pocket about the Steelers and head coach Mike Tomlin as well. It would have been easy for Rodgers to take a shot at the Hall of Famer but you have to respect the fact that he took the high road. CBS Sports: Wisconsin projected to have one of college basketball's top offenses in 2025

With roughly three months remaining until the 2025-26 college basketball regular season, the Wisconsin Badgers received high praise on Friday. In CBS Sports' recent article, titled '101 Days Out: College basketball stars, new faces, contenders, storylines ahead of 2025-26 season', analyst Isaac Trotter outlined several lookahead themes for the 2025-26 slate. Among those themes, Trotter looked at which programs roster the best projected offensive units. Wisconsin, which finished the 2024-25 season with a 27-10 mark and No. 3 seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, was listed as one of the outlet's top 10 projected offensive programs this fall alongside the UConn Huskies, Purdue Boilermakers, Louisville Cardinals, Florida Gators, Kentucky Wildcats, Illinois Fighting Illini, BYU Cougars, Texas Tech Red Raiders and Duke Blue Devils. Here's what Trotter shared regarding the Badgers' offensive outlook this season: "The Badgers have three guards who can play on or off the ball in John Blackwell, Andrew Rohde and Nick Boyd, surrounding two sweet-shooting forwards (Austin Rapp and Nolan Winter). That's a dangerous combination offensively. Losing John Tonje stings, but Blackwell is the total package and has All-America upside as the go-to alpha." Yes, Wisconsin's roster is revamped with all sorts of talent, but projecting the program to recreate its 2024-25 offensive success is a difficult task. Wisconsin boasted KenPom's No. 13 offensive unit this past season, a threshold traditional Badger ensembles rarely reach. Backed by All-American wing John Tonje, who now a member of the NBA's Utah Jazz, UW averaged 80.1 points per game off 45.4% shooting from the field, 34.8% from 3-point range and 82.6% from the charity stripe. Notably, Gard's group finished with at least 80 points in 19 contests -- the most by any Badger bunch in years. UW now welcomes the aforementioned Rhode, Boyd and Rapp into its starting unit, three more-than-capable offensive contributors. In a loaded Big Ten, the starting unit shapes up well against almost any program. That lineup's first exhibition test is slated for Oct. 24 against the Oklahoma Sooners in Milwaukee. Bronny James Outshines Dalton Knecht In Summer League; Shows Potential As Two-Way Player

Bronny James Outshines Dalton Knecht In Summer League; Shows Potential As Two-Way Player originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Bronny James struggled in the NBA Summer League for the Los Angeles Lakers as a rookie, but that's not been the case as a sophomore. James has been one of the best players for the 1-2 Lakers in Las Vegas and has even managed to outshine Dalton Knecht. James, the 55th pick of the 2024 NBA Draft, has averaged 13.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game in the NBA Summer League. He has shot a respectable 44.8% from the field, but the outside shot still isn't quite falling, as he is at 31.3% from three. James put in his best performance last time out against the Los Angeles Clippers, recording 17 points (6-10 FG), five rebounds, and five assists. The 20-year-old looked in control and was the best player on both ends of the floor for the Lakers. It's incredible to see just how much James has progressed in a year. He averaged 8.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in the NBA 2K25 Summer League last year while shooting 35.0% from the field and 15.8% from beyond the arc. Those performances led to questions being asked about whether James truly belonged at this level. The Lakers were criticized for selecting him, but he is starting to silence some of his doubters now. James is never going to become a superstar, but he is showing he has the potential to be a solid two-way player in the NBA one day. He is already a pest defensively, but needs to improve his shooting and his offensive game in general. While shooting was always a question mark for James, that was never the case with Knecht. That outside shot has deserted the 24-year-old in the NBA Summer League, though. Knecht is averaging 11.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game in Las Vegas while shooting 29.0% from the field and 26.7% from beyond the arc. You'd never have expected him to put up these numbers after seeing how well he played last year. Knecht averaged 21.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.7 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game in the NBA 2K25 Summer League. He was being talked about as the biggest steal of the 2024 NBA Draft (17th pick), but has now seemingly taken a step back. James and Knecht are trending in opposite directions at the moment, and here's hoping the latter is able to turn things around eventually. LeBron James' Message For Bronny James LeBron James has been in attendance for a couple of Bronny's games, and he has been impressed by what he has seen from his son. After that game against the Clippers, LeBron sent a message on Instagram. "Keep going, kid! Only you know your personal legend!" LeBron would certainly be proud of how much his son has improved. James stated that the game is starting to slow down for him, and he is getting more comfortable with time. That's exactly what you want to hear from a player entering their second season. It's still unlikely that James is going to be a part of the rotation for the Lakers in 2024-25. He needs to progress more on the offensive end in order to get significant minutes in the NBA for a team that aspires to compete for a championship. For now, though, James' focus will be on the Summer League, and he'll be in action next when the Lakers take on the Boston Celtics at Thomas & Mack Center on Thursday at 9 PM story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Jul 16, 2025, where it first appeared.
