Chivu Navigates Early Crisis In First Month At Inter Milan & FIFA Club World Cup
Cristian Chivu has gone straight into the deep end at Inter Milan, with an early crisis to navigate in his first few weeks in charge.
This is highlighted in today's print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

It was always pretty obvious that Cristian Chivu had his work cut out for him as Inter Milan coach.
The Romanian replaced Simone Inzaghi following the latter's controversial departure to join Al-Hilal.
Inzaghi had been Inter coach for four years. Therefore, he had really built the team in his own image.
Accordingly, Inzaghi's decision to prioritize the mountain of cash on offer in Saudi Arabia naturally sent shockwaves through the Nerazzurri.
Not least considering his last match in charge was a humiliating shellacking at the hands of PSG in the Champions League final.

On the one hand, the circumstances of his arrival could mean there's 'nowhere to go but up' for Chivu at Inter.

Certainly, expectations were not tremendously high for the 44-year-old right away.
However, that certainly does not mean that it's been a gentle beginning for Chivu.
The Romanian has immediately had to deal with a real dressing room crisis.
Comments by Inter captain Lautaro Martinez not-so-subtly imploring Hakan Calhanoglu to make up his mind and leave if he wants to join Galatasaray have upended the dressing room atmosphere.
That has, on the one hand, given Chivu an opportunity to prove that he can control the dressing room. Even in the most difficult moments.
However, by the same token, the Romanian coach is also facing early challenges to his authority.

Man Utd will ‘sacrifice' player hailed as ‘amazing' by Lewandowski if they can't find a suitor for £64m letdown

Man Utd will 'sacrifice' player hailed as 'amazing' by Lewandowski if they can't find a suitor for £64m letdown Manchester United will reluctantly look to offload Joshua Zirkzee in the event Rasmus Hojlund stays at the club this summer. INEOS chiefs have been seeking a suitor for the Dane in recent weeks in hopes of recuperating a fee from his departure that can subsequently be spent on a replacement. Advertisement Fabrizio Romano revealed that talks had been going on between United and Inter Milan over Hojlund since May. However, the Champions League finalists, who are floundering to reinforce their attack following their calamitous defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, are currently only willing to take the player on loan with an option/obligation to buy included in the terms. Why United are uninterested in current Hojlund proposal United supporters are at a loss with their frontman. (Photo by) This, of course, doesn't pose as a particularly lucrative deal for United, as replenishing the transfer kitty after Matheus Cunha's arrival is essential if they want to welcome more signings between now and the end of summer. Advertisement Alas, if a deal cannot be agreed between Hojlund and any interested side, Zirkzee will reportedly be 'sacrificed' (GiveMeSport) amid recognition from the key decision-makers that a substantial reshuffle is needed in the attacking contingent – especially with Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho all poised to depart. Zirkzee's tenure cut be cut short after only 12 months The Netherlands star made 14 Premier League starts in 24/25. (Photo by) Zirkzee, 24, oversaw a mixed maiden campaign in M16. He got off to a dream start when notching his first goal on his debut on the opening day against Fulham, coming off the bench in the closing stages to seal a crucial win and reeling off to celebrate in front of the Stretford End. Then, when he failed to add to his account for another four months, fans began questioning whether he was the right fit for the team. Advertisement This led to the Dutch international being unfairly jeered off the pitch when he was hooked before the interval in a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at the end of December. Credit where it's due, though, he didn't let it get to him, and instead worked on his game by displaying some high-quality performances with his easy-on-the-eye dribbling and link-up play. As such, it's safe to say fans would feel aggrieved to see Zirkzee leave so prematurely, given he joined only a year ago from Bologna and was utilised as more of a rotational option throughout the term. Robert Lewandowski, who played alongside United's No.11 at Bayern Munich, previously said of the striker: 'He (Zirkzee) plays amazing with his back to the goal,' the world-class frontman began. 'He can hold the ball. He can play with one or two touches or bring wingers [into the game]. 'He is also a good finisher in the box. He's big, you know, he's young, but he's big. And I think he can keep the ball very [well].' 'If they can achieve that' – William Gallas sets out his targets for Chelsea next season

'If they can achieve that' – William Gallas sets out his targets for Chelsea next season William Gallas believes Chelsea won't win the Premier League next season, and thinks they should be looking at making the quarter or semi final of the Champions League. Chelsea are currently at the Club World Cup and face Palmeiras on Friday night with a place in the last four up for grabs. Advertisement The Blues have got a great opportunity to make the final, but there's still plenty of work to be done until that becomes a reality. Gallas speaks on Chelsea targets for next season Depending on how far Chelsea go, the Blues won't have much preparation for the new season, but have already strengthened their squad with the signings of Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro. Dario Essugo has arrived, whilst Andrey Santos has returned from loan, and Estevao will join after the Club World Cup, with the squad arguably stronger than the one which finished last season. Maresca guided Chelsea to Conference League glory last season. (Photo by) Advertisement The Blues had a successful campaign under Maresca as the Italian guided Chelsea back to the Champions League, and also won the Conference League. Chelsea will be expected to push on again next season and former Blue Gallas has had his say on what the targets should be. 'They won't win the Premier League,' he said as cited on More Stories / Latest News 'If they can achieve that' – William Gallas sets out his targets for Chelsea next season 4th Jul 2025, 03:30pm Exclusive: Chelsea starlet offered to Galatasaray after talks with former team go nowhere 4th Jul 2025, 03:00pm 'Thought to be valued at' – Journalist reveals Noni Madueke asking price amid Arsenal interest Advertisement 4th Jul 2025, 02:45pm 'They will try to be close, that is sure, but they won't win the Premier League. In the Champions League, they'll be looking at a quarter-final or a semi-final. If they can achieve that, it will be another step. 'It means they are improving. Chelsea is a club that must win trophies. I think next season they may be able to win the FA Cup or the Carabao Cup.' Further signings set to arrive Chelsea may have already added to their squad, but they are still in the market for further reinforcements, with another attacker and a defender a possibility. West Ham's Mohammed Kudus is a player of interest, although it's likely an attacker will need to leave before a move can be made for the Ghana international. Chelsea also need back-up to Marc Cucurella at left back, and have been linked with Ajax star Jorrel Hato, who can also play at centre back.
