Paarl Gimnasium beat DHS to prevail in a clash between two unbeaten teams while Diamantveld edged Martizburg College on the last day of the 2025 Wildeklawer tournament in Kimberley.
Paarl Gim powered to a 21-13 half-time lead over Durban High School and flyhalf Louis Koen and hard-running No 8 Quinton Potgieter were prominent in the second half as the Cape schoolboys stretched their lead to win 47-20.
The result marks DHS' first loss of 2025 while Paarl Gim improve to 6-2-0 from six wins and two draws.
The try from Diamantveld tighthead prop Dian Ellis broke the deadlock while captain Jonathan Harding scored a hat-trick in a 38-31 win against Maritzburg College.
Paarl Boys' High hooker Christiaan Grundlingh and flank Jayden Joubert each scored a hat-trick in a 13-try, 85-0 demolition of Monument.
Noordheuwel held their nerve as flyhalf Jeandre Uithaler kicked a long-range penalty to edge Outeniqua 35-32 in a roller-coaster match that saw the lead change hands multiple times.
Waterkloof and Stellenberg played to a 17-17 stalemate as centre Armand Potgieter mustered the boys from Bellville to fight back in the second half with Waterkloof defending for their lives at the death.
Despite their best efforts, Boland Landbou had no answer for the raw firepower of Affies as the boys from Pretoria ran at will to win 74-14.
Two late tries from Jeppe salvaged some respect in a match dominated by Oakdale who converted a 14-6 half-time lead into a 47-25 victory.
Paul Roos Gymasium came back from an early deficit with a second-quarter surge that saw them jog off at the break with a 24-7 advantage over EG Jansen. The second half was a closer contest but the class of Paul Roos shone through in a 46-17 victory.
Fullback Lamla Mgedezi scored a brace while centre Darius Erwee chipped in with a try and nine points from the boot as Grey College ran in six tries to beat Garsfontein 45-29.

The Junior Springboks further stamped South Africa's authority over world rugby when they beat New Zealand 23-15 to become world champions. Paul Roos had two players including captain Norton and replacement prop, Reid. Meanwhile, Grey College also produced two of Junior Boks – JJ Theron and replacement Jean Erasmus. Furthermore, KES, Bishops and Noordheuwel all produced two players each in the U20 Championship final. U20 Championship top point-scorer, Muyo and hooker, Mnebelele (both from KES) started the final against New Zealand. Also, Bishops produced talented scrumhalf Paed and dangerous fullback, Mentoe. So, not one of the 23-man squad comes from Affies or Paarl Gimnasium. Finally, Noordheuwel also had a couple of players in the side. Skilful winger Cheswill Jooste and replacement hooker Jaundré Schoeman come from the Krugersdorp High School. Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. MSC Week regatta highlights young talent

THE future of sailing is in good hands if the strong representation of young people at the MSC Week regatta, hosted offshore of Durban by the Point Yacht Club from July 7 to 11, is anything to go by. Out of 134 sailors that participated in the week-long event, over 30 of them were children under the age of 18 who were crewing on a variety of local and visiting yachts while making the most of their school holidays. The tally included two youth boats competing in the L26 Nationals, run by Durban High School and Glenwood High School. Taking the overall honours in the L26 Nationals was Element, which had Eden School matric learner Matthew Jolley crewing on it. His fellow learner Anna Correa, a Grade 12 learner, also shone at the regatta, skippering Velocity to an impressive third place in the L26 Nationals. Also Read: MSC Week comes to an epic close 'This was my first time skippering a sailboat offshore and in a race,' said Correa. 'I worked hard and gave it my all, and I'm overall really happy with how I did. It was tiring, but so worth it.' Jolley and Correa were fresh from successfully competing in the Marriott Mirror Worlds under the recently launched MH Performance Sailing and had their skills tested. 'The conditions were definitely tricky, shifting from strong winds on one day to hardly a breeze the next, which definitely tested a range of skills. I'm so thankful that I had the support of the MH Performance Sailing team,' said Correa. Finishing sixth overall was Chaz Hansen, skippering Glenwood's Container World for the first time in this event. Hansen and his team had a competitive time offshore, including leading the fleet around the turning mark, and anchored ship on the horizon on day two in the long-distance race to uMhlanga and back, running in the front of the L26s for a patch. 'It was an exciting moment. We came third place in that race, 12 seconds behind the first yacht and only two seconds behind the second,' said Hansen. 'We definitely improved as the week went on. I set a personal goal of finishing fifth overall, but we ended up sixth, which I'm more than happy with.' Only one point separated Container World and Cracker, DHS's entry. Skipper for Cracker, DHS Grade 11 learner, 16-year-old Sohan Seetal, said, 'It was comparable to a rollercoaster — enjoyable, but in complete honesty, it had its ups and downs. It wasn't the result I had hoped for, but I'm grateful for the opportunity and the fantastic support. We all learnt so many lessons over the week and finished in seventh overall.'
