‘Smiling killer' who stabbed wife as she pushed baby found guilty
A 'violent, jealous, controlling' husband who stabbed his wife to death as she pushed their baby in a pram after tracking her to a women's refuge has been found guilty of murder.
Habibur Masum, 26, launched a 'ferocious' knife attack in broad daylight on Kulsuma Akter, 27, before leaving her 'bleeding to death in the gutter', Bradford crown court heard.
He then calmly walked away, leaving their seven-month-old son behind. The 'smiling killer' was caught on CCTV grinning as he got on a bus after the attack, prosecutors told the jury.

Masum had followed Akter to a refuge in Bradford where she had fled after he held a knife to her throat following an assault at their home in Greater Manchester.
He was seen on CCTV in the days leading up to the fatal attack 'loitering, watching and waiting' in streets around the hostel, jurors heard.

Girl, 7, dies after tree collapses at park in Southend
One girl has died and another is in a critical condition after a tree partially collapsed at a park in Essex. The girls, aged seven and six, suffered serious injuries when they were among a number of children caught beneath the tree at Chalkwell Park in Southend. Essex Police confirmed the seven-year-old girl died in hospital and her family are receiving support from specialist officers. Three other children suffered minor injuries following the incident. An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 2.55pm to reports that a tree had fallen in Chalkwell Park in Chalkwell. "Six ambulances, three ambulance officer vehicles, the London Air Ambulance and Kent Air Ambulance were sent to the scene. Police said an investigation is continuing into what caused the tree to collapse. 'Unimaginable hardship' for families Chief Superintendent Leighton Hammett said: "Families are facing unimaginable hardship this evening and all of our thoughts are with them at this time. "I cannot begin to put into words how difficult today's events have been, and continue to be, for them. "It's also not lost on me how traumatic it must have been for the members of the public who witnessed this awful incident. "Across a matter of moments, many of them went from enjoying the warm summer weather to rushing to the aid of strangers without a second thought." Chief Sup Hammett also paid tribute to police, ambulance and fire crews who "did all they could," adding that "today's loss is one they will all take personally". Death is 'truly devastating' Local MP David Burton-Sampson said: "The news of the sad death of one of the children involved in the incident at Chalkwell Park today is truly devastating. "I am sure I reflect the thoughts of all our residents here in Southend in sending my deepest condolences to the child's family and friends. Fines for firms who employ asylum seekers slump by a third despite black market migrant workers soaring to all-time high
FINES issued to firms that illegally employ asylum seekers have plunged by a third — despite migrants in the black market soaring to all-time highs. There were 2,171 penalties worth a total of £110.8million in the year to the end of March. 1 That is down 30 per cent from the record high of 3,089 issued in 2016, Home Office figures show. In the last three months of 2024, 35 car wash companies were fined a combined total of £2.95million. But officials now fear companies fined for failing to employ legal staff are simply dissolving instead. Directors are then starting new firms with different names, that inherit none of the legal liability to pay the cash back. Last year, Booom Car Wash Limited, near Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, in North London, was ordered to pay £180,000 for illegally employing four staff. Companies House shows it dissolved on December 6, before it even paid a penny. Golden Hand Car Wash Limited, based in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, is currently in the process of closing only months after a £120,000 fine. There were also 12 barber shops fined a total of £540,000. We revealed last week how small boat arrivals can be working on Britain's massive black market within hours of arriving. Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat — which have all been allowing asylum seekers to work by renting a legal delivery rider's account — now face being made subject to fines after a rule change earlier this year. The Home Office, under the Tories, raised the fine for a first-time illegal worker offence from £15,000 to £45,000 last February. It came after fears firms were writing off the smaller penalty as a tax on employing illegal migrants who were cheaper than British staff. Earlier this year, the Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said criminal gangs were behind efforts to orchestrate black market jobs once small boat crossers arrive in the UK and are placed in a taxpayer-funded hotel. A No 10 spokesman said it was 'right that the spotlight is being shone on this racket' — and will haul in Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats bosses this week.

Tamara Ecclestone slams £26m jewellery crooks after tiny amount they repaid before being deported is revealed
TAMARA Ecclestone has blasted three foreign crooks deported after repaying just £37,000 following her £26million gem raid, saying: 'There will never be any justice.' They were kicked out of Britain in an early removal scheme, despite coughing up just a fraction of the proceeds from the heist at the heiress's mansion. 5 But Tamara, 40, daughter of F1 tycoon Bernie Ecclestone, said: 'I have not received any compensation for the burglary but no amount could ever compensate for the aggressive home invasion we suffered.' Jugoslav Jovanovic, 27, Alessandro Maltese, 48, and Alessandro Donati, 47, were jailed for a total of 28 years in November 2021 over the 2019 heist in Kensington, West London. In a proceeds of crime confiscation order, a judge told the Italians to repay £435,000. But a Sun on Sunday Freedom of Information request revealed payments of just £30,376.79, £2,155.53 and £4,349.65 respectively. They were deported having served a fraction of their sentences — and will now walk free. Tamara said: 'My children are in fear that thieves could return to the house while they are sleeping. There will never be any justice for that.' Tory MP Sir John Hayes said: 'These criminals should serve the remainder of their sentence in Italy. "They should not be allowed to walk the streets.
