Pockets of heavy rain will hit a swath from D.C. to New York City

Washington Post4 days ago
Pockets of heavy rain are possible across the Lower 48 this week, with flood watches in effect Thursday along the Interstate 95 corridor from Connecticut and New York City to Richmond, including Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
Isolated flooding is also possible in pockets of Idaho and New Mexico.
Thursday's flooding could be locally significant, especially in urban areas. Some storms could produce rainfall rates on the order of 3 inches per hour, leading to rapid-onset flooding in vulnerable areas.

McNair High in Stockton flooded by water main break, students shift to remote learning

A Stockton-area school is shifting to remote learning for the day after a water main broke and caused flooding on campus. The Lodi Unified School District announced Monday that McNair High School will be on remote learning for the day due to the situation. "Students will need to log onto their Google Classroom during their class periods. Students on campus will be going home," the district said in a statement. Video from the scene shows significant flooding in one of McNair's buildings. It appears several classrooms are impacted. Workers are trying to mitigate the damage. It's unclear how the water main broke and how long the school will be in remote learning. Lodi Unified schools only just returned from summer break last Tuesday.

Video captures floodwater blanketing a train in a subway station as 50 million people in the New York and New Jersey region were under a flood watch. On Thursday, July 31, Chantal McLaughlin was near the Hudson Line train departing at 3:51 p.m., when she recorded water pouring onto the train and subway track from the ceiling above it. The train was leaving the Grand Central Terminal. "Wow, never seen a deluge like this on a @MetroNorth train in @GrandCentralNYC!" McLaughlin said in her post on X. "Wishing all New Yorkers a safe commute!" In the video, water is pouring down on a segment of the train, but there are some dry areas where passengers can stand.
