Crawford was one of Auburn's top defenders as a true freshman. How will he progress this season?
Auburn freshmen played the third-most snaps last season, according to Pro Football Focus, and cornerback Jay Crawford was in the middle of the scrum.
Crawford was one of eight Tigers to put in at least 500 snaps last season, putting in 503. His snap total was the eighth-highest among Auburn defenders, and the second-most among Auburn freshmen on the defensive side of the ball, trailing just Kaleb Harris (608).
Crawford made the most of his time on the field, as he was very effective in overall defense and tackling. His 76.6 defensive grade, which ranked No. 5 among players who appeared in at least 10 games last season for Auburn, and his 77.5 coverage grade, which was No. 2 among players who appeared in at least 10 games, led him to receive Freshman All-America honors from Pro Football Focus. Crawford missed just five tackles last season, and had a catch rate of 40%. How much will he grow in 2025?

Latest stats from Olivier Rioux with Team Canada at FIBA U19 World Cup vs Germany, Mali

Canada fell to Germany, 104-88, in the final game of Group B in the first stage of the FIBA U19 World Cup on Tuesday, but Florida redshirt freshman Olivier Rioux had arguably his best game of the tournament. The opposite was true on Wednesday as Canada bounced back for a Round of 16 win over Mali, 100-75, while Rioux struggled with foul trouble. The 7-foot-9 phenom has drawn a ton of attention since joining the Florida Gators, and these are the first games fans can see him in action on the court. Rioux is still very raw and learning to manipulate his large body and long limbs without fouling too often. He's not likely to play a ton during the 2025-26 college basketball season, outside of non-conference blowout wins, so these are valuable minutes for someone with an infinitely high ceiling — wordplay not intended. Game 3: Canada vs Germany (L, 104-88) Rioux scored four points on 2-of-2 shooting in the game against Germany. He played earlier than normal, seeing minutes in the first quarter. He positioned himself well on the offensive boards, tipping a missed shot back in for half his box score. That's Rioux's only offensive rebound of the tournament so far, and it's a nice sign to see. There's some Florida, Todd Golden sequencing in there if you look closely enough. That's the kind of film that will get him more minutes next season Game 4: Canada vs Mali (W, 100-75) Four personal fouls limited Rioux to just five minutes on the court Wednesday. There wasn't much room for debate on any of the calls, making this a learning lesson for the oversized center. SEC players are going to take advantage of a big player who doesn't know how to get out of the way. Rioux often goes forward while defending the shot instead of up, which is the only direction he needs to go at 7-foot-9. Olivier Rioux FIBA U19 World Cup Stats Next up for Oliver Rioux, Team Canada Rioux and his fellow Canadians will face the United States in the quarterfinal round held on Friday, July 4, in Lausanne, Switzerland. Tipoff is slated for 5:15 p.m. (GMT+2) local time and 11:15 a.m. ET inside Lausanne Arena. Can the Yankees beat out rivals for Eugenio Suarez in trade deadline push

Can the Yankees beat out rivals for Eugenio Suarez in trade deadline push originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Yankees fans may be dreaming of slugger Eugenio Suarez coming in after the MLB trade deadline and playing third base in the Bronx. Advertisement But they're far from alone in coveting the All-Star third baseman. According to ESPN's David Schoenfield, multiple contenders are expected to make a push for the Diamondbacks slugger, and the Yankees American League rivals may be in a better position to land him. Detroit has the kind of prospect depth that can force the Yankees to either overpay or pivot. They can plug Suarez in at third, move Zach McKinstry back into a utility role, and suddenly the Tigers look a lot more dangerous in October. Suarez's right-handed power fits perfectly between Detroit's lefty hitters Kerry Carpenter and Riley Greene. New York Yankees general manager Brian Klement-Imagn Images Seattle, meanwhile, has a glaring third base hole and plenty of motivation. The Mariners have gotten minimal production from the position and are reportedly still kicking themselves for trading Suarez to Arizona in a cost-cutting move after 2023. A reunion makes a lot of sense for Seattle especially with Cal Raleigh carrying the offense right now. Advertisement So what does that mean for the Yankees? Well, first: the price just went up. If Brian Cashman wants to seriously pursue Suarez, he'll have to contend with teams that have both the motivation and the minor league capital to win a bidding war. And if the Yankees do land him, the next step isn't easy. Adding Suarez means Jazz Chisholm Jr. likely moves back to second base. That pushes DJ LeMahieu out of a starting role and creates a real roster crunch. Oswald Peraza would need to stick around as the backup shortstop. That's why a reunion with Isiah Kiner-Falefa might make more sense. He brings infield versatility, won't cost a top prospect, and wouldn't force the Yankees into the kind of roster gymnastics that Suarez would. Advertisement There's a lot to like about Suarez in pinstripes. But there's a lot standing in the way, too. And this time, it might not just be Arizona's asking price. The Yankees could be battling Detroit and Seattle in July just to be in position to face them again in October.
