Kristin Chenoweth hits wicked high notes during performance at NBA Finals

NBC News23-06-2025
Kristin Chenoweth performed a thunderous version of the national anthem at the NBA Finals.
The Emmy and Tony Award winner sang 'The Star-Spangled Banner' before the Oklahoma City Thunder hosted the Indiana Pacers at the Paycom Center in the decisive Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Sunday.
Chenoweth, an Oklahoma native, kept the song pretty standard for the first half of the performance before she started hitting notes that reminded everyone of what she is capable of doing.
.'And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,' she belted out, as the crowd roared.
Broadway's 'Wicked' star really hit her stride, though, by saving the best for last. She ended the song with the famous lines 'O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave,' hitting and holding seemingly impossible to reach high notes on 'free' for several seconds and 'brave,' while the crowd cheered her on.
Fans watching the video on YouTube were blown away.
'To perform this acapella (without music) at one of the most watched events in the world is insanely brave. She nailed it!' gushed one person.
'Kristen knocked it out of the ballpark,' someone else wrote.
'Omg her range is insane,' another person raved.
'This is the national anthem performance we needed. Strong. In control. Superb musicianship. Tight performance. Fun ending. 10/10. Thank you Kristin,' commented someone else.
Chenoweth, who is a Thunder fan, had promised to provide her own spin on the anthem.
'I do love this song, and I take it very seriously,' she said in an Instagram video shared by her and the NBA. 'I definitely do my own version.'
While mesmerizing, Chenoweth's performance didn't totally steal the Thunder's thunder: The team knocked off the Pacers, 103-91, to win the NBA title. It marks the second time the franchise has won the championship. The team, which moved to Oklahoma City in 2008, won it in 1979 when it was the Seattle SuperSonics.

Cooper Flagg scores 10 in Summer League debut as Mavs edge Lakers

Dallas Mavericks rookie and No 1 draft pick Cooper Flagg contributed 10 points, six rebounds and four assists in 32 minutes in his Las Vegas Summer League debut Thursday as the Mavericks edged the Los Angeles Lakers 87-85. Flagg added three steals and a block. He went scoreless during the second half and finished 5-for-21 from the floor. 'Not up to my standard, but I'm going to regroup; I'm going to be all right,' Flagg told ESPN postgame. 'This is a new feeling, new environment, new teammates, but the guys settled down.' Lakers second-year guard Bronny James missed a potential go-ahead trey in the closing seconds. Los Angeles' Cole Swider led all scorers with 22 points to go with 10 rebounds. Ryan Nembhard paced Dallas with 21 points and Miles Kelly followed with 17. The main attraction, though, was undeniable. Fans at the Thomas & Mack Center buzzed when Flagg got touches as well as during his early, sporadic defensive matchups against James, who scored his team's first five points and finished with eight. Speaking during halftime of ESPN's broadcast, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd lauded Flagg's moxie during his unofficial professional debut. 'I think when you have someone like Cooper who can handle, who can shoot, who can pass, you want the ball in his hands,' Kidd said. 'He's a great decision- maker. He did that at Duke and also in high school. So, you get to see it tonight. He's going to have some mistakes. We all did; we all threw it in the stands once in a while, but I think just his poise as an 18-year-old is incredible.' Dalton Knecht (15 points) and DJ Steward (14) also scored in double figures for the Lakers. Darius Bazley grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Lakers defenders double-teamed Flagg upon receiving a pass in the backcourt after Dallas won the opening tip. Addressing the sequence at halftime, Kidd said, 'I think that's out of respect.' Flagg missed his first two field goal attempts but found his rhythm following a short breather in the first quarter. He scored six straight Mavericks points between the 4:35 and 2:49 mark, netting his first field goal on a running, one-hand dunk after securing a steal at the other end of the floor. Flagg shot 5-for-15 in the first half with three rebounds and one assist. 'He's handled the ball, he's gotten wide-open shots for teammates, he's finished,' Kidd said. 'I think you've seen a lot of what he can do in this league.'

Scrubs reboot officially announced after 15 years with original stars returning

ABC has officially ordered a Scrubs revival for the 2025–2026 season, with original stars Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and Donald Faison all returning to Sacred Heart Hospital After years of speculation, Scrubs is officially coming back. ABC has greenlit a revival of the cult-favourite medical comedy, with a new season set to air during the 2025–2026 TV season. The network confirmed the exciting news Friday, following reports by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. Even news better for long-time fans, the original stars Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and Donald Faison will all be returning. They will not only reprise their iconic roles but also step behind the scenes as executive producers. ‌ On Instagram, the trio teased the announcement with nostalgic flair. Braff, who played the show's neurotic but lovable lead, John 'J.D.' Dorian, sang a reworked version of the series' famous theme song: 'I can't do this all on my own. I need Sarah Chalke and Donald Faison.' ‌ Chalke then shared a throwback photo with the caption 'YAY!!!!' while Faison kept it short and sweet with 'Hello again.' Originally running from 2001 to 2010, Scrubs followed young doctors navigating life, medicine, and relationships at the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital. ‌ Known for its unique blend of surreal humour and emotional depth, the show was a critical success and built a dedicated fan base over its nine-season run. It earned three Emmy nominations and drew millions of viewers at its peak, averaging over 10 million per episode during its early seasons on NBC before moving to ABC for its final two years. The revival will see J.D. and Turk - one of TV's most beloved bromances - teaming up again in a very different hospital environment. ‌ A synopsis shared with CNN reads: 'JD and Turk scrub together for the first time in a long time. Medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.' Series creator Bill Lawrence, who went on to co-create Ted Lasso and Shrinking, has hinted at a comeback for years. 'We're definitely going to do it, just because we've all been enjoying hanging out,' he told LadBible in 2023. 'I think we'll figure it out in the next six months or so what we want to do." Now that it's finally happening, he said: "Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together,' in a statement to CNN.
