
Sabahans told to use MYJalan to channel road damage complaints
In this regard, he said Sabahans who are facing problems with damaged roads, whether village, state or federal roads, should take advantage of MYJalan to ensure that damaged roads can be repaired immediately.
"There are too few people in Sabah who use the MYJalan application, I hope that they would access MYJalan application to express their dissatisfaction with the implementation of roads.
"We will forward complaints to the responsible parties, if the road involves a tourist area or an agricultural road, we will forward it to the relevant parties, if the road is an urban road, we will forward it to the relevant local authorities," he told reporters after reviewing the progress of the construction project of additional Armed Forces Family Housing (RKAT) of various classes at Kabota Camp here today.
Ahmad said that MYJalan, which was developed by the government in 2023, would practise a no wrong door policy system and complaints regarding state, federal and village roads would be forwarded to the relevant parties for further action.
Meanwhile, he said that concession companies that are given the responsibility of maintaining federal roads must ensure that damaged roads, including potholes, are repaired immediately.
"The concessionaires are required to patch any potholes within less than 24 hours, this is the standard operating procedure in the federal road maintenance agreement," he added.
Ahmad said the Works Ministry would not compromise on road safety and concessionaires must ensure that the road conditions are safe and smooth.

Nanta: Works Ministry to appoint independent auditors for highway contracts from 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 — The Works Ministry (KKR) will include the involvement of independent auditors as a new component in highway maintenance contracts starting next year. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said third-party auditing is important to ensure that monitoring does not rely solely on the Public Works Department (JKR), but also involves external parties to enhance accountability, integrity and transparency. He said most of the maintenance contracts will expire in February 2026. 'Without external auditors, monitoring of concession companies would rely only on JKR officers to ensure that maintenance work is properly carried out,' he told Bernama after appearing as a guest on a Bernama Radio programme today. Nanta stressed that the public has the right to safe and quality road maintenance services, and that the ministry is committed to ensuring that the transition to a new system is not only more transparent but also effective in safeguarding the interests and safety of all road users. Meanwhile, during the programme, Nanta said every highway concessionaire entrusted with road maintenance must comply with the contract and carry out their duties efficiently and responsibly. He noted that there are still parties which fail to fulfil their responsibilities despite various public complaints, including viral images and videos. 'As such, I, along with senior KKR and JKR officers, have gone to the ground ourselves to investigate and assess actual performance in the field. 'The government will re-evaluate the need to impose legal action or penalties against road maintenance contractors or concessionaires if it is proven that negligence led to fatal accidents, especially if they stem from failure to carry out required maintenance work as stipulated in the contract,' he said. Nanta added that current maintenance contracts include clauses for payment deductions if contractors fail to deliver, including on road safety aspects. 'In addition, the contract also allows for termination if the contractor fails, is negligent, violates, or does not fulfil their responsibilities in carrying out routine maintenance as required,' he said. On the MYJalan mobile application, Nanta said that between August 2023 and June 30, 2025, it recorded 39,371 complaints. Of these, 11,959, or 30.4 per cent, were screened and identified for investigation and action by relevant agencies for roads under KKR's jurisdiction, while the remaining 27,412, or 69.6 per cent, were categorised as No Wrong Door (NWD) complaints. — Bernama

Not enough funds to fix roads, says Ahmad Maslan, RM4 billion needed but only RM2.2 billion allocated
KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 — The Works Ministry (KKR) requires additional allocation for road maintenance, as it is becoming increasingly urgent to ensure that infrastructure remains in optimum condition. Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the main causes of road damage in Malaysia include weather factors such as heavy rain and heat, overloaded vehicles, and the natural lifespan of the roads. 'Typically, after 10 to 20 years, they need to be maintained to ensure they remain safe for use. However, we at the ministry are facing a shortage of funds. 'To properly maintain roads this year, we need RM4 billion. However, we only received RM2.2 billion – a shortfall of RM1.8 billion or 45 per cent. Nevertheless, we will continue efforts to secure a bigger budget for next year,' he said after appearing as a guest on Bernama TV's Ruang Bicara programme yesterday. Based on data from the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), he said 13 per cent of road accidents are due to road conditions such as the absence of road markings, potholes, and inadequate lighting. 'Seven per cent are caused by vehicle-related factors, while human error remains the main contributor to road accidents at 80 per cent. 'The annual death toll from road accidents remains high at around 6,000, underscoring the need to address recurring causes, including factors related to road conditions," he said. Meanwhile, Ahmad said the MyJalan mobile application, launched in August 2023, has made it easier for the public to lodge complaints about damaged roads, with all reports accepted under the 'no wrong door' policy. This includes complaints beyond the ministry's jurisdiction, which are then channelled to the relevant agencies, such as the Rural and Regional Development Ministry for rural roads, the Housing and Local Government Ministry for municipal roads, and state Public Works Departments. — Bernama
