Ricky Hatton misses shock comeback press conference due to Oasis injury

Metro16 hours ago
Ricky Hatton is making a shock return to the boxing ring, but missed the press conference to announce it due to an injury suffered at an Oasis gig.
The 46-year-old has not fought professionally since 2012 when he was stopped by Vyacheslav Senchenko in what was a comeback fight at the time.
That bout came over three years after his previous fight, a 2009 knockout defeat to Manny Pacquiao.
Hatton's last win was in November 2008 when he stopped Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vegas.
He will look to add another victory to his record in December, when he steps through the ropes again, taking on Eisa Al Dah in Dubai.
Al Dah is the UAE's first professional fighter, also 46 years old, and holds a record of 8-3, with his last victory coming in 2012.
Hatton posted confirmation of the December 2 fight on Sunday, but he did not fly to Dubai for the scheduled press conference due to a bizarre injury.
The Sun report that Hatton was left with an eye injury caused by his sunglasses while attending the Oasis comeback gig in Cardiff on Friday night.
The former world champion was advised not to fly due to the unexpected issue, so had to pull out of the press conference to announce his own return.
Explaining the issue, he said: 'I wish I was there but I had a little bad injury on my eye. The main thing is the fight will take place and I can't wait, I'm really looking forward to it.
'It's just one of them freakish things, I caught one of my sunglasses in my eyes and I'm very fortunate it's not done any permanent damage. It's just scraped the surface, so fingers crossed we're good to go.'
There was a video call to promote the fight, though, with Al Dah insisting that it will be an action-packed contest.
'Trust me, this fight will not be like the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight,' said the man known as the Arabian Warrior. 'It will be a true fight, true action. More Trending
'And I will do my best, because everybody in the UAE and the Gulf, they will watch this fight.
'The place will be sold out and it will be watched around the world.' https://www.instagram.com/p/DLvUNvdNzVB/
Hatton's professional record stands at 45-3, with his only defeats coming against Senchenko, Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.
He won world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight, at one stage boasting a perfect 43-0 record.

ITV's 'most expensive flop in years' fronted by David Tennant facing the axe after getting fewer viewers than niche nature documentary

The show described as ITV's 'most expensive flop in years' is facing the axe after drawing in fewer viewers than a BBC documentary about pangolins. Hosted by David Tennant, The Genius Game is reported to have cost £2.5 million to make, but despite the huge investment, it had average viewership numbers of 661,000 after a promising start. This matched the viewership figures of BBC2's Pangolins: The World's Most Wanted Animal, which examines the plight of the endangered animals also known as scaly anteaters. An insider told The Sun: 'Publicly ITV maintains that no firm decision has been taken, but most execs and commissioners view it as a disaster. 'Not only did it occupy a primetime 9pm slot, it had a big-name host and was seen as a potential rival for BBC 's The Traitors. 'But of the five main channels on June 11, it was beaten by two and equalled by BBC2, thanks to those pangolins.' The Genius Game is intellect-based and sees contestants put their IQ to the test in never-before-seen games and manipulate each other for a cash prize, but many found it confusing and difficult to understand. While the show had a promising 1.5 million viewers when it first aired in April, by the second episode this number had plummeted to 846,000 viewers. To put this into context compared to other primetime TV shows, BBC1's Race Across The World attracted 4.2 million viewers at the same time. ITV has said: 'No decision has yet been made.' News of the show's uncertain future comes after its broadcast schedule was changed amid plummeting viewer numbers. When it first premiered, Genius Game was set to air on Wednesday and Thursday. But now, there was a change in the schedule and it was subsequently only broadcast on Wednesday evenings. Jeremy Clarkson's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? celebrity specials were then moved into its Thursday slot for two weeks in May. The shake-up meant the show was spread out over seven weeks instead of four. It comes after many viewers during the first episode took issue with the new program and commented on how 'complicated' it seemed, with many not understanding the premise It comes after many viewers during the first episode took issue with the program and commented on how 'complicated' it seemed, with many not understanding the premise. Some took to social media to share their concerns and posted on X: 'Just starting this. Seems very complicated. I'll watch it out but not looking good tbh #GeniusGame.' One watcher turned off the show in just ten minutes and penned: 'Bye bye.' Others said: 'Sorry #GeniusGame it's a no from me, way too complicated for that time of night, I need mindless entertainment after a busy day, ITV should've just extended #CBBUK instead.' 'I'm struggling to understand. I'm clearly no genius, the rules on rules on rules are something else #GeniusGame.' The MailOnline has reached out to ITV for comment.

He's a client of the Principality Stadium and has held many corporate events there."I've got friends who'd been to the Foo Fighters and the rugby, all as a guest of Mr David Gray. "There were no alarm bells. There was no reason to disbelieve it, there really wasn't."Mr Stephens said after Mr Gray confirmed their tickets last summer, it was only about a week before the concert that concerns began to day before the gig, Mr Stephens and his friend decided to drive to The Speculation Inn near Pembroke, a pub owned and run by Mr Gray's family, to confront him."I introduced myself and he told me the issue was with his mobile phone, which he said was the phone which contained all of the tickets," said Mr Stephens."He actually took a call during our time in the pub from a guy flying in from Gibraltar for the gig."He said that he would meet us outside gate three at 4:30pm and he would sort it out." 'It just makes me feel sick' Mark Bonnici from Machen, Caerphilly, also said he had no reason not to trust Mr Gray, whom he said he had known for paid £1,200 for four tickets and said the experience had left him feeling "sick".Mr Gray had previously offered him hospitality tickets for the rugby, which he went to without he asked him if he was interested in Oasis tickets, Mr Bonnici said yes and transferred the money."He said his phone was playing up and he couldn't transfer the tickets," Mr Bonnici Mr Stephens, he was told to meet Mr Gray outside gate three of the stadium. "There was no sign of him and his phone has been switched off ever since," he Stephens decided to call the hospitality account manager for the Principality Stadium on the Saturday morning, while on his way into Cardiff to try to find out whether his tickets were genuine."He broke the rather unfortunate news that the booking didn't exist in his name," he WRU has been asked whether or not Mr Gray has ever held a box at the Principality Stadium."I was annoyed, my wife was inconsolable. She was so looking forward to this," said Mr Stephens."As the day unfolded, it became very clear through a series of Facebook posts that not only did he sell 33 seats for the one box, he sold it over and over and over."The last count as of this (Monday) morning was 87 tickets. A lot of very angry people".Mr Bonnici also said it only became clear many others had been affected after his daughter posted on social media and contacted hospitality at the Principality groups of other people had been waiting for their tickets in the same location, he said."I'm probably more disappointed than anything," he said. "This is someone I know, I've known for years." Mr Stephens claimed that after the unprecedented demand for Oasis tickets led to significant price rises last summer, Mr Gray increased the prices he was charging to between £900 and £1,000 per said he believed that overall, fans had lost out to the tune of "tens and tens of thousands of pounds"."I think the biggest issue is, for all of these fans, they didn't get to see Oasis", he said."And because it's sold out, they won't get to see Oasis."It's more that than the money for me".Mr Stephens and his wife remain determined to get to an Oasis concert this year and have booked tickets to see the Gallagher brothers on the US leg of their tour in Los Angeles."Hopefully these ones are genuine," he said.
