Tioga County Names New District #5 Legislator
TIOGA COUNTY N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Tioga County has welcomed a new Legislator to District #5.
On June 10, Andrew Aronstam was sworn in as Tioga County Director of Veterans' Service Agency at the Sixth Regular Legislature meeting.
Aronstam has had significant experience in local county government and leadership, including titles such as Village of Waverly Mayor, Deputy Mayor of Waverly, Village of Waverly Trustee, and a board member of Waverly Central School District.
The new legislator has also held many other titles aiding his community as founder and president of the non-profit Waverly Recreation Booster Club, a teacher, a youth counselor, a coach, and a five-year member of the Tioga County Republican Committee.
Aronstam is married to his wife Patty, with whom he has two children and six grandchildren. He holds a Master of Healthcare and Administration.

Investigators found that the students had discussed wearing gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints and had assigned roles, including one student who was to act as a lookout during the attack. A student who overheard the conversation informed a parent, who then alerted the school administration. The school asked the students and their parents to return the next day, where an internal investigation was launched, and local law enforcement was involved. Some of the students claimed they initially thought the conversation was a joke, but later realised it was being taken seriously by others in the group. One student reportedly said they went along with the discussion out of fear of being labelled 'weird' for not participating. The four students were arrested on charges of threatening and disorderly conduct, and have been suspended pending expulsion. They were later released into the custody of their parents. According to the police report, three of the students showed remorse and apologised, while one appeared unbothered, even reportedly smiling and making excuses during questioning. The school issued a statement saying, 'The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. As soon as we learned about the incident, we took immediate action. Due to federal student privacy laws, we cannot comment on specific student discipline matters.' The victim's mother has expressed her intent to support prosecution against those involved in the alleged plot. The incident has sparked fresh debate in the U.S. over school violence, early behavioural intervention, and the growing psychological pressures on children at a young age.

Wimbledon organisers are confident they have the necessary precautions in place to cope with a day one heatwave. It is forecast to be one of the hottest June days ever in parts of the UK, with temperatures expected to well exceed 30C in SW19. Advertisement A heat rule is likely to be in place for the players, meaning an extra 10-minute break between sets two and three in women's singles and three and four in men's singles, but it could also be a difficult day for fans and officials. Chief executive Sally Bolton said: 'Obviously it's a very warm day. The first obvious point to make is that the athletes compete in temperatures like this all year on the tour. For us Brits here at the championships it feels very hot. We do have the heat rule available to us, which is well used on the tour.' Heat stress readings, measuring air temperature, surface temperature and humidity, will be taken at three points during the day, with the heat rule instigated if the reading goes behind 30.1C. The decision has not gone down well in the officiating community and with traditionalists, and Bolton insisted it is not a money-saving exercise. 'I think it will be a little bit different and I think it will take us all a little bit of time to get used to that but we felt very much that it was time to move on.' Numbers in the queue in Monday morning were so high that by 10am organisers were recommending for people intending to join it not to travel.
