Tweni 2's promises to be bigger and better
The annual music and surf event, Tweni2's held at The Spot Backpackers, is back.
Keep May 24 open, as it's going to be a cracker of a day, jampacked with surfing action, and a full line-up of SA music, till late.
The exciting news is that Quiksilver has joined the 'Tweni2's family' as the main sponsor this year.
Andrew Lange (aka Rooster), one of the event organisers, said they have an incredible line-up of surfers and bands to make the day rock.
In fact, Lange reckons, it's the best they have had so far.
'Entertainment this year is going to be bigger and better than before with a special guest band from Cape Town called Half Price and Tweni2's local legend Chewing The Hornet and DJs such as, Detroit, Courtzy, Savage Koala and Hutch,' he said.
Singer-songwriter, Jason Hartman, who was the 2009 co-winner of Season 5 of Idols, is the opening act, and will be on stage from 12.30.
Guest band, Half Price is a satirical non-profit party-ska-punk band. Since its inception in June 2001, the band has released seven studio albums as well as a 'best of' album in the USA through New York-based punk rock label Punk Outlaw Records.
On the surfing front, Tweni2's 2025 pairs surfing compo will consist of 16 teams representing more then 15 beaches from the North, South and Wild Coast.
The teams so far are: Squid Beaks, Silver Bullets, North Coast Chirpers, 031, 6 Coffees No Lunch, The Scottie's Snappers, Warners Brothers, The Laaities, Umzumbe Underdogs, Tweni Locals, Trafalgar Saints, Shockwave, BuzzNicks, Tweni Poison, and then two mystery teams.
The first heat is expected to kick-off at 07:30.

Is it safe? Cape Town influencer swims into weird ocean foam and the internet reacts
TikTok sensation Michelle Sky Hayward dives into Cape Town's murky waters, sparking a wave of reactions online. Image: TikTok TikTok user and content creator Michelle Sky Hayward leaves netizens scratching their heads after taking a deep dive into what seems like bubbling sewer water. Generally, most people know to steer clear of dodgy-looking water; however, Hayward seems to have taken the phrase 'diving into the unknown' quite literally. The content creator, who has since gone viral, shared a video of herself swimming in the mysterious-looking foamy water in Cape Town. 'I'm having so much fun, I literally don't even feel the cold,' she told the camera, moments before taking an unintentional gulp of the questionable water. Hayward then screamed and laughed after some water went into her mouth, saying it tasted 'salty'. Video Player is loading. The adventurous fitness enthusiast has since posted a video on both Instagram and TikTok confirming that she is 'not an American tourist' and is a local to Cape Town, swimming in the sea 'at least once a week'. She said, 'I actually didn't smell anything when I went into the sea; it smelled like the normal ocean smells. 'I did notice that the water was super murky, and it is usually clear in that spot. There was also a lot of foam that I hadn't seen before. But I honestly loved the foam. I felt like I was in a bubble bath; it was so cool.' The video's comments section was filled with people baffled by the water's murky appearance. Viewers were quick to point out the obvious signs of questionable water quality, with many left wondering how Hayward didn't notice. 'I refuse to believe this is raw sewage and it doesn't have the worst smell … how did you not smell it?' asked @nsreemxx. 'As humans, we have a natural aversion to things that don't look or feel right. Even if they didn't know the exact reasoning, people would not want to get in this water upon seeing it. But I guess not everyone,' said @RedScarf.

Following their surprise mini Southern African tour in March this year, which saw them play in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Maputo, 340ml was announced as the headliner for this year's Corona Sunsets Festival. Earlier this year, the band, comprising drummer Paulo Jorge Chibanga, guitarist Tiago Correia-Paulo, vocalist Pedro Pinto, and bassist Rui Soeiro, didn't want to confirm to The Citizen whether they would be performing together as a collective for the first time in 12 years. 'Hard to say at this stage. We're going to be totally focused on these first shows. They're the reason why we're doing this. No other agendas. But we might also be holding a few secrets… somewhere down the line,' shared Correia-Paulo in March. ALSO READ: 'No big game plans, just flow. They teased their classic breakout hit Midnight in parts of their performance before performing the whole song later in their set, which the jovial crowd sang along to word for word. Excitement gripped the audience, which appeared to be comprised of South African black millennials, when the band played the opening riffs from Shotgun. 340ml headlined at the Eswatini festival, Bushfire, soon after the shows mentioned above. "20 July is your birthday, MaRiky. Not for a single moment are you ever blurred in our hearts. Thank you for the honour of being a parent to you. Thank you for being a Good Ancestor to us," she wrote alongside a collage from his childhood. In light of the loss of Rick, who died by suicide, Sandton City, in partnership with the Riky Rick Foundation, has launched the "Words That Heal" initiative. The campaign aims to facilitate conversations about mental health and provide a platform for artistic expression and activism, known as "artivism". The initiative responds to the critical mental health challenges facing South Africa's youth, where over 60% report struggling with mental health issues. "Words That Heal" invites the public to share uplifting voice notes via WhatsApp, which will be collated into a curated song of hope and released later this year to support the Riky Rick Foundation's mission of providing free therapy for young people. The second phase of the project will launch during Mental Health Month in October, with planned immersive experiences at Sandton City, allowing shoppers to connect with Rick's music while raising awareness about mental health. Sandton City will also host a pop-up retail space featuring limited-edition merchandise designed in collaboration with artist Samurai Farai, where proceeds will directly support the foundation's initiatives aimed at creating safe spaces for youth.
