A Free State man was arrested after his wife was found murdered in their bathtub in Riverside, Phuthaditjhaba.
The incident occurred on Thursday, 20 June, at about 16:00.
The 41-year-old woman's son found her body after he noticed signs of 'a violent altercation' last Thursday.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Loraine Earle, the 45-year-old man is expected to appear in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of murder.
'Police were alerted to a possible murder, and upon arrival, were met by the deceased's son, who led officers to the bathroom where the woman's lifeless body was found in a bathtub,' said Earle.
She said the victim had a visible deep open wound to the head.
'The son, who does not reside at the home, stated that he had come to visit his mother and, upon finding the house locked, forced entry through the kitchen door.'
Inside, he discovered signs of a violent altercation, including a broken mirror, bloodstains on the walls and running water from the bathroom.
He alerted a neighbour, who contacted the police.
The victim's husband, who was not at the scene, later contacted police and disclosed his location.
He was arrested shortly afterwards.
The alleged murder weapon was recovered and has been confiscated, Earle said.

Memphis Police Department officer shoots, kills man accused of gas station stabbing

A Memphis police officer shot and killed a man who allegedly stabbed someone at a gas station, the Memphis Police Department confirmed June 23. Early on June 23, an officer responded to a call at a gas station at 4260 Winchester Rd., where a man had been stabbed. The officer found a man armed with 'an edged weapon on scene,' a statement from MPD said. 'As the officer attempted to arrest the suspect, the man attempted to stab the officer,' the statement said. 'The officer discharged his weapon, striking the subject. The officer immediately rendered aid and requested assistance from the Memphis Fire Department.' Kim Wheeler, a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation public affairs officer, said during a press conference that the man was initially standing outside the building before retreating inside. When the officer followed the man inside, the individual "refused to surrender," and advanced on the officer with a screw driver. The officer was struck by the screw driver in his protective vest, and the officer fired his weapon in response. The man was taken to the hospital and later died. Wheeler said the investigation is ongoing and could not comment on the relationship between the suspect and the other man inside the gas station who was stabbed. The other man who was stabbed was released from the hospital after being treated for non-critical injuries. This is a developing story and will be updated. Man shot, killed outside Westlake 7-Eleven store

Authorities say a suspect remains outstanding after a shooting left a man dead in front of a 7-Eleven store in the Westlake district of Los Angeles on Sunday. The L.A. Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at about 10:32 p.m. at 1234 Wilshire Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified publicly by police only as a 44-year-old unhoused Hispanic man. Investigations revealed that the suspect approached the victim before firing off multiple gunshots. It's not yet clear what led to that confrontation. The suspect fled the scene before authorities arrived and remains outstanding as of Monday morning. No additional details were immediately made available.

Retired Crestwood police officer charged with second DUI to appear in court

A retired Crestwood police officer recently charged with his second DUI is set to appear in court Monday morning. Former police commander Christopher Spencer, 49, was arrested by Midlothian police at the end of March after allegedly being involved in two incidents less than an hour apart. Midlothian police said he was first involved in a hit-and-run crash on March 31, just before 2:30 p.m., in the parking lot of a White Castle on South Cicero Avenue, where he entered and hit a stop sign on the way in. Police said that about two minutes later, Spencer was seen hitting the back of a car in the drive-through, bumping into it an additional seven more times before driving onto the curb and leaving the scene. Then, about 40 minutes later, he crashed his car into a home's garage in the 15100 block of South Kostner Avenue, police said. Midlothian police said they were confused when they caught up to Spencer at the second crash site. He appeared impaired and refused a breathalyzer. A video also showed him claiming a bottle of Blackberry Crown Royal in the car was not his. CBS News Chicago obtained personnel files for Crestwood police officer Christopher Spencer, who resigned from his department. The files showed issues involving the mistreatment of women and a state fraud investigation, as well as the two drunken driving incidents.
