Performer's novel tribute to Lord Jagannath & Lord Krishna draws devotees
2
Bhubaneswar: A distinctive artistic expression caught the attention of thousands of devotees during Bahuda Yatra in Puri on Saturday, as an Odissi dancer painted her face depicting Lord Jagannath and Lord Krishna on different sides.
Puri-based performer Aparna Panda, whose innovative representation symbolised the unity of divine forms, drew Lord Krishna on the right side of her face while showcasing Lord Jagannath's distinctive features on the left. The intricate artwork created a powerful visual representation of spiritual unity.
"Through the artistic expression, I wanted to convey that divinity is one, though we worship different forms.
The amalgamation of Lord Jagannath and Lord Krishna on my face represents the fundamental truth that all divine forms are ultimately one," said Aparna, whose elder sister Annapurna performed as Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in front of the chariots.
"During last year's Rath Yatra, I dressed up as Jagannath and my elder sister performed as devadasi. Our intention is to promote our culture and tradition during this world famous festival, which is the biggest platform.

Nothing is possible without the blessings of Lord Jagannath," Annapurna said.
The unique presentation drew crowds near the chariots during Bahuda Yatra, with many devotees stopping to appreciate the symbolic artwork.
"It's a beautiful way to represent our ancient belief that all gods are one. Such artistic expressions help younger generations understand our cultural and spiritual heritage better," said Nirod Bihari Pattanayak, a devotee.

Kanwar Yatra 2025: Delhi-NCR DJs on track to play a notch higher this saawan, rake in moolah this monsoon season!
Come Friday (July 11) and Delhiites will not just hear but even feel the beats as Kanwar Yatra. To keep the momentum of kanwariyas in sync, DJs across NCR are set to boom and confirm the rise in demand as compared to previous years. Expect giant speakers, flashing lights, and bass drops echoing all along the roadways as DJ owners confirm that several groups are spending lakhs to keep both the spirit and sound sky-high! Kanwar Yatra will be held held between July 11 and 24, this year, as saawan (monsoon) season makes its presence felt in full force. (Photo: Parveen Kumar/HT (Photo for representational purposes only))) 'Iss bar demand zyada hai isliye humein price badhane padha. Pichle saal se 30,000-50,000 increase hua hai. Jo DJ set-up pichle saal 1.5 lakh tak book hote thay for that this year we are charging nothing less than 2 lakh, and we are still completely booked out,' says Ravi from Haryana-based Ravi DJ. Adding to this, Mohit Gurjar from Uttar Pradesh-based Raavan DJ says: 'Some are even going for customisation while booking the sound system. In fact, customised speakers and tall speakers ki requests zyada aa rahi hain.' Kanwar Playlist! Top 5: Damroo Bole Re Dar Pe Tumhaare Devo Ke Dev Mahadev Mahadev Ji Se Boli Bhole Ki Sena Prev Next A major reason behind the spike in demand is the rise in first-time participants, who not just have more energy but also bigger budgets and grand planning for this year's yatra. 'To match the energy of first-time participants, the old kanwar groups are putting their budgets on the back burner,' informs Krishna Kumar, from Ghaziabad-based Krishna DJ, adding, 'Jin new kanwariya groups ke calls aa rahe hain woh custom speakers wali gaadi se lekar DJ lights tak ki demand kar rahe hain. We are happy as our profit margins have increased. Last year, we earned around ₹7 to ₹8 lakhs during the entire season of Kanwar Yatra. This year, in pre-bookings alone we have already earned ₹5 lakh and are still receiving more requests.' 'The Maha Kumbh that happened earlier this year has instilled a new-found spiritual enthusiasm, especially in the youngsters, as a lot of them are joining us on the yatra this year,' says Ram Vardhan, from Faridabad-based Shiva Kanwar Group, adding, 'This time we have gone over budget by close to ₹40,000. A major part of this budget has been spent on getting grand DJ set-ups because we want to match the energy of the youngsters who have joined the group new, and wish to make their first-time experience in this journey a memorable experience.' Echoing similar sentiments, and highlighting another reason behind the rise in demand this year is Arun Verma, a Delhi-based kanwariya, who has been going on the yatra since a decade, says, 'The easier route diversions this year have added a positive note to our efforts. A lot of people who have never been on the yatra before are reaching out to me to get insights and tips to travel safe especially on major routes and highways; given the high number of incidents involving kanwariyas that have been reported over the years. This year, since the route has been made much easier with better diversions for those on foot, those new to the kanwar yatra have acquired confidence to join in. For instance, while crossing Roorkee, there is now a dedicated path that goes under the highway so that the kanwariyas on foot don't have to walk on the busy highway.' Viral reel shows what happens when you speak Hindi in Bengaluru
Bengaluru, India's tech powerhouse, is more than just a city of startups and IT parks; it's also a space where numerous people with diverse languages, cultures, and identities live together. As people from all corners of the country move in for work and opportunity, the city finds itself at the center of growing conversations around language, belonging, and identity. Amid this environment, one of the most emotionally charged debates continues to revolve around the relationship between native Kannada speakers and migrants from predominantly Hindi-speaking regions. While many residents live together in harmony, tensions sometimes emerge, particularly when language becomes a visible barrier or symbol of a deeper social divide. Recently, a humorous video shared on Reddit has reignited this debate with surprising intensity. Though comedic, the video has become a lightning rod for a much broader cultural reflection in Bengaluru. In the viral clip titled 'What North Indians Think Bangaloreans Do Every Day', content creator Deesha Umesh satirically portrays the exaggerated behaviour of a fictional local who shows hostility toward anyone speaking in Hindi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top Public Speaking Course for Children Planet Spark Book Now Undo The character, played by Deesha herself, appears to go out of her way to be unkind when addressed in Hindi, but immediately softens when spoken to in Kannada. One scene shows her pretending to be a fruit seller offering mangoes at Rs 50, only to hike the price to Rs 500 when a Hindi-speaking customer shows interest. Another moment shows her unhelpful and cold when a stranger asks for directions in Hindi. Yet when another woman bumps into her and apologises in Kannada, she warmly accepts it and embraces her. The video closes with the simple yet sharp message that language can influence the way people treat one another, especially in a linguistically diverse city like Bengaluru. The video, which went viral on Reddit and Instagram with over 380,000 likes, was praised for its relatable humour and smart social message. Users appreciated Deeha's uninterrupted Kannada. Interestingly, Deesha is a Gujarati-born doctor who grew up entirely in Bengaluru and now works full-time as a content creator, with over 230,000 Instagram followers. Social media reactions Viewers flooded the comments section with personal stories. One user wrote, 'Many Hindi-speaking people born in Bengaluru still avoid learning the local language.' Others said they'd never experienced such discrimination and that these issues are often exaggerated. Some, however, shared disturbing incidents where they felt unwelcome for speaking Hindi.
