Committee member Padraig O'Sullivan TD, speaking under Dail privilege, raised concerns about the FAI's handling of it and requested the FAI be invited in.
But the Association has responded asking for more time to prepare materials given the ongoing Garda investigation.

A statement read: 'The Association has requested that the date be deferred by a period of four weeks to enable adequate preparation time, given the complexity introduced by the Committee seeking material that relates directly to an ongoing Garda investigation.
'The Committee originally sought availability from the Association to discuss 'Safeguarding Policies and Procedures within the FAI'.
'Of the two dates offered the FAI were only available for Wednesday the 9th July due to annual leave for key personnel on the alternative date (Wednesday the 16th July).
'When the formal invite was received on Friday 27th June (8 working days prior to the session) the Committee requested a broad range of documents, many that relate specifically to an ongoing Garda investigation.

'Over the intervening period we will continue to liaise with the Committee to ensure the scope of the session is clearly defined to ensure that no parties could inadvertently compromise an ongoing investigation.
'We fully respect the important work of the Joint Committee and acknowledge the critical oversight role it plays in relation to legislation, policy, governance, expenditure and administration of the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.
'The FAI is fully committed to engaging constructively with the Committee on this matter and we look forward to them defining a revised date where this session can proceed.'

Summer soccer 'dead in the water' as FAI face revolt over aligned calendar
THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT fears in the FAI that the aligned calendar season for the grassroots game as part of the Football Pathways Plan is now dead in the water. The 42 understands that a board meeting scheduled for next week is set to see the plans shelved after feedback given to FAI president Paul Cooke and other board members over the last month. Correspondence sent to members of the Schoolboys/Girls Football Association of Ireland (SFAI) detailed how delegations from the Leinster, Ulster and Connacht FAs told the FAI during negotiations that they were mandated to unanimously reject the switch on behalf of their members. In the letter seen by The 42, the SFAI also state that there is now 'overwhelming proof of the lack of support from existing Winter Leagues to switch and support from Summer Leagues for the Right of Choice'. It's also understood that the Dublin District Schoolboys/Girls League (DDSL) were planning a revolt against the stated aim from the FAI for a phased introduction of the aligned calendar beginning with U5 to U12s from January 2026, and that several other underage leagues around the country were also planning a boycott of the directives from Abbotstown. It was only this April that FAI Grassroots Director Ger McDermott detailed how the aligned calendar plan – or summer soccer as it was dubbed by critics – would require a culture shift for grassroots football and that schedules for the 12 months would need to be flexible to ensure 'more football at most appropriate' times. A third of leagues had not yet engaged with the FAI about aims to have a fully aligned pathway up to professional League of Ireland level by 2028. The letter revealed that at a meeting between the FAI and SFAI recently the governing body suggested the possibility of suspending implementation of the aligned calendar season by three years to allow further consultation and preparation. However, this was viewed by the SFAI as unacceptable 'as the mandate from over 40 leagues was for the right of choice, and current winter leagues' right to remain in winter season.' A source close to the situation described the aligned calendar season as 'dead in the water' with the expectation being that next week's board meeting will see the governing body climb down on the plans that were part of the bedrock of former chief football officer Marc Canham's Football Pathways Plan. The Englishman finished up with the FAI only this Tuesday after handing in his notice earlier in the year. In December, the FAI's general assembly voted through the plans by a margin of 74 votes to 56 after they had been presented and approved by the board. President Cooke said during the assembly that the decision to switch from the traditional winter campaign had 'changed the face' of the game in this country as Ireland was the only country within Uefa without an aligned schedule throughout a fully functioning football pyramid from grassroots to professional level. 'Hopefully enough [FAI] board members will recognise the game is up,' the SFAI letter stated. This potentially devasting blow to the implementation one of the core tenets of the FAI's Football Pathways Plan comes at a critical juncture for the Irish game. It was only in late April that a letter was circulated to members of the Oireachtas from a newly founded group called the Grassroots Amateur Football Clubs of Ireland (GAFCI), accusing the FAI of 'irresponsible if not reckless' actions relating to the aligned calendar season. The timing of that correspondence coincided with around 90 TDs and Senators from all parties preparing to welcome the FAI's chief executive, David Courell, League of Ireland academy director Will Clarke, and grassroots director McDermott for presentations on Wednesday, 30 April. Packie Bonner, independent FAI director and chair of the international and high-performance committee, was also in attendance but did not make a presentation. The FAI are also currently in the process of an independent audit of League of Ireland academies with the aim of producing a funding document for Government by 15 August in order to try and secure backing in October's Budget. The FAI board are due to meet on Tuesday. Advertisement

Arsenal 1 AC Milan 0: Saka edges cagey friendly as new signings make debut… but Italians get revenge on penalties

Boss Despite Arsenal's win, the two teams still took part in a shoot-out – with Martin Odegaard, Reiss Nelson, Jakub Kiwior having theirs saved and Salmon blazed his over. READ MORE IN FOOTBALL Next up for Arsenal is a clash against Newcastle at the same venue on Sunday before flying to Hong Kong on Tuesday ahead of a North London derby versus Tottenham. Arteta went strong with his first starting line-up of the tour – including a first-choice front three of Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz. There was a debutant in the starting XI in Norgaard, and full-back Riccardo Calafiori started at centre back with Gabriel and Jurrien Timber left out of the squad, still recovering from knocks picked up towards the end of last campaign. Ethan Nwaneri also got the chance to start ahead of skipper Martin Odegaard. Most read in Football BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS Both Havertz and Nwaneri have certainly bulked up over the past few months, the 18-year-old in particular following his breakthrough season last term. Arteta will have been pleased to see his right-hand combo of Saka and Ben White shaking off the cobwebs – injuries meant they started just 12 games together in all competitions last season. Norgaard proved what a nuisance he can be in midfield with a few timely interceptions and tackles, while William Saliba showed off his pace to deny Rafael Leao a breakaway goal. 8 New signing Christian Norgaard started the game Credit: AP 8 Martin Zubimendi came off the bench for his debut Credit: Reuters The atmosphere was lacking heading into half-time, but it got its boost soon enough, firstly through some kiss-cam entertainment with the fans, with a lot of Viktor Gyokeres mask celebrations on show on the big screen… And then Arteta rang the changes with six new faces thrown on, including two more debuts for Zubimendi and Kepa, while Odegaard, Jakub Kiwior, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Leandro Trossard also came on. Trossard and Kiwior combined to tee up Saka – Polish defender Kiwior whipping a cross to the far post and Saka popping up to finish it. 8 Kepa Arrizabalaga also came off the bench for the Gunners Credit: Getty 8 It was just the start Arsenal wanted to pre-season Credit: Getty Arsenal were much more dominant in the second half with fresh legs, and four more soon followed in the 63rd minute in Mikel Merino and three eye-catching youngsters – Dowman, Salmon, both 15, and Josh Nichols, 18. It meant that three of the back four – Lewis-Skelly, Nichols and Salmon – were academy made. Dowman's name has been on the lips of every Arsenal fan since training with the first team last season, and got his chance in the limelight on the right wing. One of his first acts on the ball was to cut inside and fire a shot just wide, and minutes later won a foul with some neat trickery. Merino could have made it 2-0 in the final 15 minutes with a header from a corner that was pushed away by Terracciano and Trossard had a long-range effort tipped over.
