The Sandman season 2's bonus episode has left fans wondering if there will be more
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Sandman season 2

The eagerly awaited bonus episode of The Sandman season 2 dropped today (July 31), sending fans flocking to Netflix to catch the latest instalment of the series inspired by the eponymous comics, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Titled Death: The High Cost of Living, the 12th episode introduces us to Death (portrayed by Kirby Howell-Baptiste) experiencing life as a human for a day.

Netflix released the second season of The Sandman in two parts, with Death: The High Cost of Living following suit, once more boasting an A-list cast.
Allan Heinberg, the creator of The Sandman, shared his thoughts with Netflix's Tudum, saying: "You get a lifetime, no matter how long you're here, so make the most of it."
He continued, "Don't forget what a privilege it is to be here and how lucky we all are to be here, and don't take any of it for granted because it could all be over very quickly."

Heinberg noted, "It's definitely wisdom that has been shared again and again, but it's also wisdom that human beings seem to forget again and again."
Kirby Howell-Baptiste, who plays Death, reflected on the final episode: "I think it's a really fitting end, and it's really beautiful that we end where we began."
She elaborated, "We start with a family dinner that kicks off the event, and we end with a family dinner, and it wraps everything up again."

With the conclusion of this episode, fans are left wondering about the destiny of The Sandman series.
Will there be a Sandman season 3?
Regrettably, the journey ends here. Netflix has confirmed that The Sandman will wrap up with its second season, as announced back in January.

The mastermind behind The Sandman, showrunner Heinberg, revealed he had envisioned just two seasons for the fantastical saga.
Heinberg disclosed his decision was made well before summer 2023, which marked the commencement of filming for the show's second chapter.

Speaking to Variety, Heinberg expressed: "The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream's story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season.
"We are extremely grateful to Netflix for bringing the team all back together and giving us the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation in a way that we hope will surprise and delight the comics' loyal readers as well as fans of our show."

Reflecting on the production of The Sandman's final season, Heinberg told Tudum: "Knowing this was our final season - knowing where we were going, story-wise - allowed us to prep and plan to use our time and budget to the fullest.
"And to enjoy the process, and each other, as much as possible since we knew this was going to be the last time we'd all be working together to tell this extraordinary and mad and moving story."

Despite the conclusion of The Sandman, Heinberg admitted to Variety that he would "instantly" seize any opportunity to create further instalments if given the chance.
The writer expressed his eagerness to pen the series "for as long as they would let me". He elaborated on the boundless potential of The Sandman universe, stating he could do "anything" with the narrative, making it humorous, romantic, or frightening, while delving into various genres.
Heinberg shared his sorrow over The Sandman concluding, describing the experience as a "creative dream" for him.
