Mera Baap Chara Chor: Lalu, Tejashwi Targeted Over Fodder Scam Ahead Of Bihar Polls

India.com21-06-2025
With Assembly elections looming in Bihar, political rivalry has spilled onto the streets in a no-holds-barred poster war. A provocative poster that appeared near Patna's busy Income Tax intersection on Saturday has triggered a fresh war of words between the ruling and opposition parties.
The poster depicts Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad and his son, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, seated on a buffalo -- Tejashwi in front and Lalu behind, chewing grass.
The caption reads: 'Mera Baap Chara Chor, Mujhe Vote Do' (My father is a fodder thief, vote for me) -- a direct and mocking reference to Lalu Yadav's conviction in the fodder scam.
While no group has claimed responsibility, the poster has sparked sharp reactions. RJD supporters have expressed anger over what they view as a deeply personal and indecent political attack. The party, however, has not yet issued an official response.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, responding to the controversy during an International Yoga Day event, doubled down on the criticism. 'Lalu Yadav has been declared a banned criminal by the Supreme Court. The fodder scam was committed by him. So, where is the second opinion on this? All courts have said he is a fodder thief,' he said.
In retaliation, the RJD has launched its own poster campaign, this time accusing the ruling NDA of nepotism.
Posters have appeared at several places depicting NDA leaders such as Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, State Minister Ashok Choudhary, and the late Ram Vilas Paswan alongside their sons-in-law.
The posters mockingly label the alliance as the 'National Damaad Commission' (National Sons-in-Law Commission), accusing it of nepotism.
The escalating poster war -- laced with sarcasm, personal jibes, and viral slogans -- reflects the high-stakes atmosphere ahead of the polls.

Pashupati Kumar Paras eager to be the part of INDIA bloc in Bihar

Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP) national president and former Union Minister Pashupati Kumar Paras on Thursday (July 3, 2025) claimed to have had positive talks with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, who was heading the INDIA bloc Coordination Committee constituted for the upcoming Assembly election. Mr. Paras said that seat-sharing would also be finalised soon, but did not disclose the number of seats his party was eager to contest. He pointed out that winning candidates should get the tickets. Addressing the media at the party office, Mr. Paras said, 'Tejashwi Yadav ji is leading the INDIA bloc in Bihar, and I had a talk with him. This week, we are again going to sit together to discuss the Assembly election. I am sure, whatever will happen, it will be good.' He answered in the affirmative when asked about claiming any seats in Vaishali district, which was a strong bastion for the undivided LJP earlier led by his elder brother and former Union Minister, the late Ram Vilas Paswan. 'Of course, we will surely stake a claim on the Assembly seat in Vaishali district. These things would be discussed when we sit for the formal talk over the seat distribution as part of the INDIA bloc. At present, there is a great need for change in leadership in Bihar, and we will give our winning candidates after the talk with the alliance partners. The winning candidates should get the ticket,' he said. Reacting to the number of seats his party was eager to get, the former Hajipur MP said, 'I have travelled across the State and I received a very good response. At present, we cannot reveal in front of media about the number of seats, but let me assure you that everything would be discussed at the right platform. No political parties or alliance partners have announced the seat sharing. Let others announce, we will also do.' Mr. Paras denied rumours that RJD supremo Lalu Prasad was not giving him time to meet. He said that he had visited Mr. Prasad at the latter's house on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and attended an Iftar feast hosted there as well. 'These are just rumours, I have very good family relation with Lalu ji and family since 1977,' he added. Party's standing Officially, Mr. Paras's RLJP is not yet part of the INDIA bloc, which consists six parties in the State — RJD, Congress, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India (CPI). Since April 7, the INDIA bloc leaders have already held four meetings, with the last one being on June 12; RLJP was invited to none of those meetings. Sources in the RJD camp said that Mr. Paras was demanding 10 to 15 seats, whereas Mr. Yadav was not willing to offer more than two seats. April 14, Mr. Paras had officially announced that he would not be a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and that he was attempting to join the INDIA bloc. On July 5, RLJP announced that it was going to organise a grand celebration on the birth anniversary of the party's founder Ram Vilas Paswan at the party office in Patna. Party's Central Parliamentary Board president Suraj Bhan Singh, State president Prince Raj Paswan, national general secretary and former MP Chandan Singh, national spokesperson Shravan Kumar Agarwal were also present at the press conference.

NDA rallies behind EC amid roll revision row

Patna: Amid criticism from the opposition over the timing and duration of the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar, the ruling NDA has firmly backed the Election Commission (EC), describing the exercise as "routine and necessary". Following support from BJP and JD(U), LJP (RV) chief and Union minister Chirag Paswan on Thursday accused the opposition of deliberately undermining constitutional institutions. "After EVMs, they are trying to find an excuse in the name of the SIR as they see defeat staring in their face in the coming state assembly election," he said. HAM(S) founder and Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi echoed the sentiment, claiming that bogus voter registrations had long benefited the opposition. "I know many seats where up to 20,000 bogus voters were registered before 2005. The opposition wants to continue with it to their advantage. The SIR will identify the names and strike them off from the list," he said. He alleged that the RJD was protesting because it had created bogus voters in every constituency. Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief Upendra Kushwaha, also an NDA partner, urged critics to understand the EC's move before raising objections. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo "People are raising questions without information," he said. The EC began the revision process on June 25 and aims to complete it by July 26. The deadline for publication of the final list is Sept 30 ahead of Bihar's expected Oct-Nov elections. BJP leader and health minister Mangal Pandey defended the timeline, saying that the 2003 revision, the foundation for the current one, was also completed in 31 days. "The opposition's criticism is meaningless," he said. After a meeting with governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chirag told reporters that NDA seat sharing would be finalised soon. Taking a swipe at the RJD, he said, "If I had been with the NDA in 2020, they (RJD) would not have won seats in double digits. They won the elections on the same seats where we had fielded candidates and the NDA votes split." He reiterated that the roll revision was a regular exercise and accused the opposition of spreading confusion.

Jagan's popularity unshaken, says YSRCP leader at meet

Kurasala Kannababu, regional coordinator for the YSR Congress Party in the North Andhra region, urged all-party leaders and activists on Thursday to highlight the failures of the Chandrababu Naidu-led government and raise concerns over the partial implementation of the 'Super-Six' assurances made prior to the 2024 general elections. He, along with ex-minister Botcha Satyanarayana and YSRCP-Vizianagaram district and zilla parishad chairperson Majji Srinivasa Rao, reviewed the party activities in all mandals and villages over the last one year. Speaking at the event, he said that within a year, the NDA government had failed on all fronts and had lost the support of the people. He claimed that the participation of large crowds at the recent meetings held in Kurnool, Prakasam and Guntur districts by ex-chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy demonstrates that his image remains intact. Mr. Botcha Satyanarayana alleged that the government had intentionally ignored Mr. Jagan's security though it was supposed to ensure adequate security as per Z+ category norms. Under the 'Babu Surity-Mosam Guarantee' programme designed by the YSRCP high command, Mr. Majji Srinivasa Rao asked all leaders to take up door-to-door campaign to explain the government's failures. Former MLAs Kadubandi Srinivasa Rao, Sambangi China Venkata Appalanaidu and others were attended the meeting.
