PAC chief chides PH duo for commenting on MAHB proceedings
PETALING JAYA : Public Accounts Committee chairman Mas Ermieyati Samsudin has indirectly chided two committee members from Pakatan Harapan for commenting on its proceedings involving the privatisation of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
This comes after DAP MP Teresa Kok and PKR MP Sim Tze Tzin were quoted in news reports as saying the proceedings had gone smoothly with finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan cooperating well.
Mas Ermieyati, the Bersatu MP for Masjid Tanah, said the remarks by Kok and Sim were in their personal capacities and did not represent the PAC.
'I want to stress that every finding, discussion and document submitted during PAC proceedings are subject to Standing Order 85 and should not be made known to the media by anyone involved in the proceedings,' she said in a statement.
Standing Order 85 states that evidence taken before a parliamentary committee shall not be released by any committee member before the panel presents its report to the Dewan Rakyat.
Mas Ermieyati said the PAC has yet to finalise its recommendations from its proceedings, with several more witnesses to be summoned again, including a former independent director of MAHB.
She said there were some matters that needed to be clarified after going through the testimonies by witnesses who were called up so far.
The committee had held 16 sessions of proceedings up till now. 'The PAC appreciates the good cooperation that every witness has given,' she said.
The PAC is looking into the management of public airports involving MAHB, the finance ministry, and Khazanah Nasional Bhd.
Amir, former MAHB CEO Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd CEO Lee Jim Leng, and Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) CEO Nik Amlizan Mohamed are among the witnesses it summoned.

Perlis entrepreneurs use TikTok, digital skills learned at Nadi centres to boost sales and reach customers nationwide
PADANG BESAR, Aug 2 — The National Information Dissemination Centre (Nadi) is not only helping to bridge the digital divide between rural and urban communities, but is also empowering entrepreneurs to boost their income by equipping them with the skills to manage social media platforms effectively. Two Perlis-based entrepreneurs interviewed by Bernama said Nadi had been instrumental in helping them master digital marketing techniques and other business-related skills. One of them, 30-year-old Nurul Sakinah Ikhsan from Felda Rimba Mas, who has been selling frozen corn dogs and a premium 'corn dough' batter mix since 2023, said she learned how to use TikTok's 'yellow bag' feature at a course organised by Nadi Felda Rimba Mas last year. 'In August 2024, I activated the TikTok yellow bag feature for my business, 'Dapur Maksu', to sell my corn dough batter mix. To my surprise, within four months, by December, sales had increased significantly,' she said. Nurul Sakinah, who produces various types of frozen corn dogs, added that TikTok is not only a digital marketing platform but also helps her reach a wider audience by motivating her to hone her social media skills. 'In the 'yellow bag', I only sell the corn dough batter mix for RM15.90 per pack, which can be shipped nationwide. As for the frozen corn dog, most customers come directly to my place in Felda Rimba Mas after seeing it on TikTok. 'I've had customers come all the way from Pahang and Melaka to buy the frozen corn dogs, which I sell for RM1 each. I can post it if they insist, as it can last up to three days, but they will have to bear any risk of damage,' she said. Nurul Sakinah, who has a Diploma in Hotel Management, said Nadi Felda Rimba Mas also helped design stickers for her corn dough batter mix packaging. 'Nadi services are very helpful for young entrepreneurs like me. They provide the right guidance and training to market our products, and help generate ideas to improve our business,' she said. Meanwhile, Najwa Azhar, 33, who runs the Mama Nory cake and bakery in Kangar, said a multimedia course by Nadi PPR Seri Sena in 2019 taught her creative and effective online marketing techniques to promote her products. 'I've known about Nadi since 2018, and through its course, I learned how to take and edit product photos to make them more visually appealing for promotion on Facebook and Instagram. 'It has made a big difference in attracting customers. I noticed a real change in how they responded to my social media posts,' she said. Najwa, who has been running her business with her mother, Norida Ismail, 68, since 2015, said these skills were especially valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic and Movement Control Order. 'Nadi PPR Seri Sena still keeps in touch with me. Sometimes their representatives visit my shop, and we exchange ideas. They also offer other courses, but I haven't been able to attend due to time constraints. The only other course I've attended was an online cooking class,' she added. Najwa, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Management Mathematics, said Nadi is one of the best reference centres for helping young people start their business through digital marketing. Nadi is an initiative by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) under the Universal Service Provision programme. More information may be obtained at its official website It aims to provide shared internet access to communities, particularly in rural areas, and to bridge digital, knowledge and socio-economic gaps. — Bernama

‘Miniature of Malaysia': KLScouts tapped to strengthen unity in diverse capital
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — The Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Scouts Movement (KLScouts) has the potential to become an important strategic partner in strengthening the city's social ecosystem, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. She said that the extensive network and experience of the Scouts Association of Malaysia (PPM) can be systematically utilised to implement social intervention policies in the capital, especially through programs like the Human Endeavour Program (PUJI). She noted that KLScouts' membership has reached over 14,000 people, making it a crucial asset in facing urban social challenges. 'These challenges include character building, instilling a spirit of service, and teaching people the meaning of leadership through action,' she said while speaking at the Kuala Lumpur Scouts Association of Malaysia Medal and King's Scout Badge Award Ceremony here last night. Dr Zaliha said that platforms like KLScouts enable a more effective connection between community movements and national policies, particularly in addressing the challenge of unity in the capital. 'Kuala Lumpur is a real testing ground for the unity and solidarity of the people. It is a miniature of Malaysia, where the complexities of religion, race, and culture coexist in the same city, with a diversity full of challenges and opportunities,' she said. Furthermore, Dr Zaliha said that scouting activities are not just ordinary co-curricular activities but are an important process in the holistic formation of an individual's identity. She also expressed hope that KLScouts can play a greater role in the holistic urban social development policy through collaboration with various parties. 'I hope that the cooperation built tonight will pave the way for a more strategic involvement of KLScouts in the policies and implementation of social development in this capital,' she said. In the ceremony, 43 people received the King's Scout Certificate, six individuals received the Scouts Association of Malaysia Medal, 79 received the Chief Scout Commissioner's Certificate of Commendation, and 100 individuals received the Wangsa Wilayah Certificate. The event also saw the official launch of the 40th Anniversary Commemorative Medal of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Scout Council, symbolising the organisation's four decades of establishment. — Bernama
