Man booked for making horse walk on embers at temple in Tamil Nadu
The accused was identified as C Kumaravel of Namagiripettai.
The complaint in this regard was filed by M Vignesh, alias Sai Vignesh, an animal activist and president of Almighty Animal Care Trust, Chennai. On May, 8, he found a video on a social media platform showing a horse being forced to walk on embers during a temple festival, following which the animal writhed in pain.
Vignesh lodged a complaint with the Namakkal SP to take action against the person for cruelty to the animal. Based on his complaint, the Namagiripettai police booked Kumaravel under sections of PCA Act and the BNS.
Police source told TNIE that, Kumaravel, an autorickshaw driver, owns the horse and used to take it for horse races. As the animal had suffered from health issues, Kumaravel had vowed to make the animal walk on embers at the Mariyamman temple upon recovery.
Kumaravel is absconding. Police are searching for him.

FIR against kanwariyas for beating woman on scooty
Haridwar: An FIR was registered on Wednesday against unidentified kanwariyas after a video surfaced showing a group of pilgrims, including a woman, assaulting a local woman in Haridwar. The incident took place on Sunday night after the victim's scooty purportedly grazed past a kanwar (pot) while she was returning home with a friend. The video shows seven-eight kanwariyas verbally abusing the victim (whose face was not visible), pulling her hair and beating her. Initially, police claimed they were not aware about the incident as no formal complaint was filed. However, after public outrage on social media, senior sub-inspector Ramesh Saini of Kankhal police station registered an FIR under BNS sections 191 (rioting), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 74 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty). While police said the victim remains unidentified, TOI spoke to the 40-year-old woman, who confirmed the incident took place near Rishikul trijunction in Haridwar. However, she has chosen not to file a complaint. SHO Chandra Mohan said, "We took suo motu action after the video went viral. Our team is trying to identify both the woman and the accused kanwariyas for further action." Police are directing kanwariyas to take the designated canal route, but some insist on using the highway, leading to road blockades and confrontations. SP (city) Pankaj Gairola said, "We're urging kanwariyas to take the canal route, where all basic amenities are available and their safety is ensured. However, some are adamant on using the highway. In such cases, police have had to intervene. Most of the pilgrims are following the designated route."

History-sheeter assaults woman shopkeeper for not giving free cigarette
. NAVI MUMBAI: Khandeshwar police have launched a manhunt for a history-sheeter for assaulting a woman who runs a grocery shop after she refused to give him free cigarettes. The accused hit the woman on her head with a plastic tray outside her shop for keeping milk packets and caused her severe head injuries. The incident occurred in Vichumbe village in Panvel taluka on Sunday night. While the Khandeshwar police have registered an FIR against the accused under relevant sections of BNS for causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon or means, the injured woman's husband has demanded to register attempt to murder case against the accused and complained to CM Devendra Fadnavis, Police commissioner Milind Bharambe and other concerned higher authorities of Navi Mumbai police for taking appropriate legal action against the accused history-sheeter. The injured woman has been identified as Nalini Patil (54) who is a retired Anganwadi worker and the wanted accused as Ghanshyam Bhoir (30). Bhoir picked up the plastic milk tray and assaulted on Nalini's head causing her grievous head injuries. She was rushed to Panvel sub-district hospital where she received 27 sutures for her head injury. She was discharged on Wednesday.

Agra: A 28-year-old man from Etah was sentenced to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old Dalit girl, a Class 3 student, after luring her with Rs 10 while she was collecting mangoes from an orchard near her home. The survivor's "detailed and consistent account" of the incident was instrumental in securing the conviction. According to additional district govt counsel (ADGC) Pradeep Gupta, the incident took place on June 2, 2018, but came to light five days later when the child complained of abdominal pain and disclosed the assault to her mother. A case was registered on June 7 under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation), along with relevant provisions of the Pocso Act and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. "Initially, the police filed a final report citing lack of evidence. However, the court took cognisance after the girl's mother submitted a protest petition. On Feb 2, 2019, the court deemed the allegations substantial and initiated trial proceedings," Gupta said.
