'Pure class': Wimbledon fans blown away by Carlos Alcaraz's act in runner-up speech
Sinner's win saw him clinch a fourth career grand slam title to leave him one behind Alcaraz, who had never previously tasted defeat in a major final. But the 22-year-old Spaniard showed why he's so loved around the tennis world after praising his opponent's display in a classy runner-up speech that left fans in awe of the humble Spaniard.
'It's always difficult to lose. First of all, I have to congratulate Jannik. Congratulations on your win,' Alcaraz said. 'It is a really well deserved trophy. An unbelievable two weeks for you here in London playing great tennis.
'For your team as well, I know there are a lot of family and friends here that watched you in the final, so it's just an amazing team around you. Just really happy for you. Keep it going and really happy to be able to build a really good relationship off the court, but then a great rivalry on the court that makes me improve every day. So, thank you very much and congratulations.'

Sunday's final at the All England Club was the first time in 23 years that none of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal or Andy Murray featured in the men's decider. And watched on by the Prince and Princess of Wales, it continued the epic rivalry that Sinner and Alcaraz have forged, with the pair clearly the dominant forces on the men's tour after sharing the last seven major titles between them.
Sinner has now won four of them, but continues to be a divisive figure for some fans who've suggested he should not have been competing after his two positive doping tests and subsequent three month ban. Nevertheless, Sinner and Alcaraz continue to play with a superb level of respect for each other and the sport, and were seen embracing after the match in heartwarming scenes.
The Italian was also quick to pay his respects to his rival in an equally classy Wimbledon victory speech. 'Hello everyone. First of all, I would like to start with Carlos, again, amazing tournament but mostly thank you for the player you are,' Sinner said.
'It's so difficult to play against you but we have, as you said, an amazing relationship off the court, and on the court we just try to build up and for doing that we need the best teams in the world and also you have the best team. So keep going, keep pushing, you are going to hold many, many times this trophy, you have already two, so!'
Alcaraz had been on a career-best 24-match winning streak, and had won 20 matches in a row at the All England Club - including the 2023 and 2024 titles. 'It's always a bad feeling losing matches,' the World No.2 said.
'It's a little bit even worse when you lose in a final. I just want to keep the good moments and try to forget the bad moments. I just want to think, 'OK, I just played a final in a grand slam, and try to forget that I lost it.'"
Alcaraz and Sinner will now turn their attentions towards the final grand slam tournament of the year at the US Open, where the Italian will be hoping to defend his title. And for Alcaraz, it's an opportunity to banish the demons of a shock second round exit at Flushing Meadows in 2024, when he was bundled out in straight sets by Dutchman, Botic van de Zandschulp.
Congratulations @janniksin for your first Wimbledon 🏆! Very well deserved! 🤝🏻 Thank you everyone for your support! 💚 I feel at home and it's really special to play here! 🫶🏻 See you all next year! pic.twitter.com/IRrftANFlm

Be gracious in victory. Be gracious in defeat. Carlos Alcaraz fans have nothing to be disappointed about or criticize, he's won almost everything on clay and grass this season. One loss doesn't erase the brilliance. 🌱 pic.twitter.com/SQAysLzrFw

Rudyard Kipling: 'If you can meet with triumph and disaster. And treat those two impostors just the same'. Classy speech by Carlos Alcaraz after his defeat in the Wimbledon final. Real champions are made by how they respond to defeat. Alcaraz has this trait. A true champion. https://t.co/GqcxHQIVkK

Real Madrid forward closing in on Elche switch
Carlo Ancelotti's tenure at Real Madrid, by far, earned the club several accolades and successes. However, his lack of faith in youngsters saw the academy talents overlooked and barely ever given a chance. Advertisement Alvaro Rodriguez was one of the few young players who did manage to make an impression and earn a debut under Ancelotti. In fact, he even went on to score against Atletico Madrid on debut. Even that impressive achievement, however, did not convince the manager and he did not see minutes. Eventually, Rodriguez left for Getafe on loan. Earlier this week, the player spoke openly about how he was done waiting for the first-team call that will never come, saying, 'I think I have to leave. I can't wait much longer for the first team.' Departure around the corner As relayed by MARCA in a recent update, the 21-year-old striker is indeed closing in on an exit from the club as he nears a move to Elche. Advertisement The Primera division club are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Real Madrid over Rodriguez's transfer. Alvaro Rodriguez is close to moving to Elche. (Photo by) There are still some doubts over the minor details of the deal but the issue is well underway and expected to reach a culmination in the coming days. A departure is indeed the best option on the youngster's table for succeeding in the first team as a striker, at this point, is close to impossible. No place in Alonso's squad For starters, Xabi Alonso's system only places two forwards on the field of which Kylian Mbappe acts as a striker of sorts. Advertisement The centre forward position then faces pre-existing competition from Endrick – who is touted to be the next big striker in world football – and Gonzalo Garcia who impressed in the recent FIFA Club World Cup. It remains to be seen if Real Madrid receive a sizeable fee for Rodriguez's transfer and whether they retain any buyback clause or percentage of his rights. If their recent transactions with academy talents are anything to go by, one of the two aforementioned clauses will be included.

Roma want to close Wesley deal soon
Roma want to close Wesley deal soon The negotiations for Wesley are entering the decisive phase, with Gian Piero Gasperini having decided to make his voice heard to speed up the process. The Flamengo player is considered a key player to strengthen the squad ahead of next season. Advertisement As Leggo reports, the Brazilian club is willing to sell the player for €25 million, a figure that Roma has said it is willing to meet in order to complete the deal. After weeks of discussions and evaluations, the Giallorossi management appears intent on making a decisive move, also to avoid the involvement of other European clubs who are monitoring the situation. Gasperini wants Wesley at all costs. The coach sees the South American winger as a player suited to his system, capable of providing thrust, quality, and unpredictability on the flank.
