The plots were illegally divided and sold to multiple buyers, leading to the cancellation of leases back in 2014, said the officials.
Early on Friday, a team from the development authority, municipal corporation and administrative officials arrived with bulldozers, accompanied by a heavy police presence. As the news spread, people began to gather and protested the action. The protestors bloacked the road and the route from Harifatak Bridge to Mahakal and Patni Bazaar was closed.
Later, City Qazi Khalikurrahman arrived and informed the crowd about the court's order, after which the residents ended their protest. UDA CEO Sandeep Soni said, "The action was part of a pre-approved UDA plan. Approximately six years ago, the UDA board canceled the leases of 28 properties due to violations. These leases expired in 2014, and commercial constructions were made on residential land. In Sept 2024, the UDA issued a final order to remove the encroachments, which was challenged in court.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Thursday dismissed Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez 's petition seeking to quash the money laundering case filed against her by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with alleged gifts received from conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. Chandrasekhar and his wife Leena Paulose were arrested and are also accused under the MCOCA. The court, after hearing arguments from both sides, declined to interfere in the ongoing trial proceedings. Justice Anish Dayal pronounced the order, while the detailed judgment will be uploaded in due course. Jacqueline Fernandez had challenged the second supplementary chargesheet filed by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), maintaining that she was an innocent victim manipulated by Sukesh Chandrashekhar, who is accused of orchestrating a Rs 200 crore extortion racket from prison. Appearing for Fernandez, Senior Advocate Sidharth Aggarwal argued that being a celebrity should not render someone automatically liable. Delhi University activates 3-year degree exit from FYUP
PTI file photo NEW DELHI: Delhi University has issued a notification allowing students enrolled under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) to exit the course after completing the third year with a degree, marking a major step in the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The official notification issued on Thursday states that students who have successfully completed six semesters (three years) under the UG Curriculum Framework 2022 are eligible to exit with a three-year degree - a general degree for multi-core discipline programmes or an Honours degree for single-core disciplines. "Students interested in availing the above option can log in to the university's student portal at https: and submit their intent through the designated online process," the notification reads. It further advised students to "carefully evaluate their academic and career goals" and consult teachers and mentors before opting for the early exit. The move comes as Delhi University prepares to launch the fourth and final year of the FYUP this August.
