Flagg Is First of 4 Montverde Academy Players Taken in Opening Round of NBA Draft
Flagg went first to the Dallas Mavericks. Queen was next off the board, going 13th to the Atlanta Hawks. Newell was drafted 23rd by the New Orleans Pelicans. McNeeley was the last one taken, going 29th to the Phoenix Suns.
Queen, Newell, and McNeeley all didn't last long on their teams as the trio were all traded. Queen is headed to New Orleans, while Newell is going to Atlanta. McNeeley is ending up with the Hornets.
'I got to watch all my guys get drafted,' McNeeley said.
It's the second time that the basketball powerhouse had a quartet taken in the draft. In 2021, the school had alums Cade Cunningham (1st), Scottie Barnes (4th), Moses Moody (14th), and Day'Ron Sharpe (29th) all drafted in the first round.

Buccaneers have lofty goals as they kick off training camp for franchise's 50th season
The four-time defending NFC South champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers have lofty goals entering the franchise's 50th season. They want to celebrate their golden year with their third Vince Lombardi trophy. Every team hopes to win the Super Bowl of course, but it's more realistic for some than others. Count the Buccaneers among those who should be considered legitimate contenders, even though they don't get much attention. Tampa Bay is tied with Chicago for the 14th-best Super Bowl odds according to BetMGM Sportsbook. 'I know we can get it done,' veteran linebacker Lavonte David said Wednesday. 'I feel like we fell short last year. I feel like we would have had a great run at it last year honestly. We just fell short, and definitely unfortunate, but probably one of the main reasons why I came back, and I know what we are capable of, and I know what we can do. We have the talent to do it, and we have the mindset to do it. So, we just got to put it all together, and I always say, Offense just do their thing, defense we just have to take care of it. We have just got to do a better job defensively, and I think we'll get to the promised land if we do that.' With Baker Mayfield turning into a top-tier quarterback and dynamic playmakers like Mike Evans and Bucky Irving around him, the Buccaneers have an offense that can compete with the best. Mayfield last season became just the fourth player in NFL history to have 4000 yards passing, 40 touchdowns, and a completion percentage over 70 percent. Evans flashed midseason form when training camp kicked off with a morning practice. But with Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders watching from the bleachers, Antoine Winfield Jr. and the defense made more big plays for a unit that's looking for more takeaways. 'It's just good to see him healthy,' coach Todd Bowles said of Winfield, an All-Pro in 2023 who missed eight games last year. 'I'm not going to put too much into the first day – we're in shorts and T-shirts getting acclimated. He made some plays in shorts and a T-shirt that I know he can make in pads. I was just happy to see him moving around.' Sanders, who is the head coach at Colorado, was in town to see his son Shilo. The Buccaneers signed safety Shilo Sanders as an undrafted free agent to add depth in the secondary. His younger brother Shedeur was selected in the fifth round by the Browns. He's competing for the starting quarterback job in Cleveland. The Buccaneers finished 10-8 last season, including a 23-20 home loss to Washington in the playoffs. The Commanders ended up reaching the NFC championship game. General manager Jason Licht upgraded the offense in the offseason by re-signing wide receiver Chris Godwin, who is still recovering from a severe ankle injury, and drafting Ohio State wideout Emeka Egbuka 19th overall. He bolstered the defense by signing veteran edge rusher Haason Reddick and drafting cornerbacks Benjamin Morrison (second round) and Jacob Parrish (third round) and edge David Walker (fourth round). Tampa opened camp with All-Pro left tackle Tristan Wirfs sidelined after having knee surgery earlier this month. Bowles is optimistic about Wirfs and Godwin returning sooner than later.

Jayden Daniels' first 11-on-11 throw of camp is an over-the-shoulder connection with Deebo Samuel
ASHBURN, Va. – Picture what Jayden Daniels can do for an encore now that he's experienced against NFL opposition. Teammate Bobby Wagner has seen enough to imagine it. 'The confidence will grow. Understanding what teams are trying to do, the mixing of coverages. Playing against those defenses is going to serve him really good (now),' said Wagner, a linebacker entering his 14th season in the league. 'I think he's going to make a big, big leap.' It took just one pass on Day 1 of the Washington Commanders' training camp Wednesday to justify the belief in the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner and 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. On his first toss in 11-on-11 drills, Daniels, working from the high red zone, looked left for one of his newest targets, Deebo Samuel. The design – two receivers on crossing routes with Samuel running a slot fade – isolated the former 49ers Pro Bowler in a 1-on-1 matchup. Tight coverage from second-year safety Tyler Owens left Daniels with a minuscule margin for error. Still, Daniels threaded a perfect ball into the tightest of windows, landing it over the shoulder in stride. Even with the understanding that the no-pads practice is closer to a walkthrough than live game action, the pass had onlookers gasping. Daniels' brilliance in leading Washington to its first NFC championship game appearance since 1991 raised expectations to the point where maybe no bar is high enough. 'One thing I've learned over the year from Jayden,' coach Dan Quinn said, '(is) there are no limits on him.' Whether the same can be said for the Commanders coming off a surprising 12-5 regular season followed by playoff wins at Tampa Bay and Detroit is another question. Having the preternaturally poised and athletically gifted Daniels keeps optimism high for 2025 and beyond. That's in part because of Daniels' mentality. Despite the massive attention following his dynamic debut – Daniels became the only rookie quarterback in league history with at least 3500 passing yards (3568) and 750 rushing yards (a rookie-record 891) – he arrived at camp with his feet firmly on the ground. 'That's kind of just who I am: gratitude and humility,' Daniels said about focusing amid an increasingly chaotic world around him. 'I don't really look too much into everything, but I would just say just my inner circle, the people I talk to, the people closest to me – they help me stay grounded.' Daniels said he spent the offseason focused on fundamentals: footwork in the pocket, keeping his eyes on the field, scenarios where he might need to break a tackle or escape pressure. Washington's offense soared last season with tone-setters Daniels and Terry McLaurin. The second-team All-Pro receiver – who can become a free agent after this season – skipped a chunk of the offseason program because of a contract dispute and remained away from the team as camp opened. Washington placed McLaurin on the reserve/did not report list Tuesday. Daniels supports his teammate – 'We know he's working, he's still our brother,' the QB said – while downplaying any notion of a chemistry calamity from McLaurin's absence. 'I think it's an overstated thing,' Daniels said. 'Obviously, me and Terry have a very good relationship. That's just the business of the NFL. Whenever that time comes and he's back out on the field, I don't think we'll miss a beat.' As the pass to Samuel showed, Daniels certainly hasn't. NOTES: The Commanders placed right guard Sam Cosmi on the physically unable to perform list. Cosmi had ACL surgery after getting injured during Washington's divisional round playoff victory against the Lions. The standard recovery time suggests an October return, but Quinn spoke optimistically about possibly having the starter back earlier.

Guardians outfield prospect Chase Delauter has surgery on his right wrist
Outfielder Chase DeLauter, widely considered one of the top prospects in the Cleveland Guardians organization, had surgery Wednesday to repair a fractured hamate bone in his right wrist. DeLauter is expected to miss 6–8 weeks, which means he could be back for the last week or two of the season. He was examined on Tuesday by wrist/hand specialist Dr. Thomas Graham at Jefferson Orthopedics in Philadelphia. An MRI and clinical exam confirmed a hook of the hamate fracture, and surgery was recommended. DeLauter has not played since July 12. He was batting .278 with eight doubles, five homers, and 21 RBIs in 34 games at Triple-A Columbus. The 2022 first-round draft pick reached base in all 34 games he played for the Clippers, which led to some wondering when he might be called up. But DeLauter has struggled to stay on the field. He had three stints on the injured list last year and missed the first couple months of this season because of a sports hernia injury he suffered in spring training.
