William and Kate recognised with philanthropy award

The Advertiser21-05-2025
The Prince and Princess of Wales have been recognised by Time Magazine in its prestigious Top 100 Philanthropy Awards.
William, 42, and his wife Catherine, 43, have spent years working with charities and were praised by the publication for their efforts to "modernise royal philanthropy" through social innovation and corporate partnerships.
In its citation about the pair, Time wrote: "Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, are less concerned with cultural preservation and more attuned to social issues, tackling homelessness and rural mental health through their Royal Foundation and spotlighting innovative solutions to climate change through the Earthshot Prize, an environmental award founded by William in 2020."
The magazine added: "Crucial to the Waleses' approach is aligning social imperatives with sound business strategies and building corporate alliances."
William and Catherine's inclusion in the TIME list marks a notable follow-up to Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, who were featured in Time's Top 100 most influential people list in 2021.
In recent years, Catherine has launched the 'Shaping Us' campaign and the Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood, which encourages employers to support young children's development in the workplace.
The initiative is backed by companies including Deloitte, Lego and Co-op.

Catherine Zeta-Jones' make-up artist reveals her secret to gothic glamour

Catherine Zeta-Jones' make-up artist has revealed the secrets to her gothic glamour look. The actress turned heads at the premiere of Wednesday season two in London this week (30.08.25) and now Brett Freedman has revealed exactly how he created her striking make-up. Brett told WWD he started with a case of Farmhouse Fresh's Cactus Comfort Moisturizer followed by Aleph foundation and Mac Blot Powder and then used Giorgio Armani's Luminous Silk Cheek Tint in shade 42 on Catherine's cheeks. To create Catherine's smokey eyes, Brett turned to Makeup by Mario's Master Mattes Palette and Victoria Beckham's Satin Kajal Liner in bronze which was finished with Ardell's Naked Lash number 421 and Lash Clusters false lashes. He told the publication: "I wanted to glisten up her lash line. This [eyeliner] pencil has the creamiest slide; it's like a precision cream shadow." The look was finished with a plumb lipstick, with Brett adding: "For Catherine, this is definitely out of the box for her, but also feels right in a strange way." Brett also made sure Catherine's body also had a fresh glow so he used Farmhouse Fresh's Whoopie Cream Shea Butter and the brand's Golden Gleam Serum. He added: "Zeta-Jones was showing so much skin I wanted to amp up the light catching shine, but not get too slick or bronzed. Golden Gleam is skin care, but it's also an amazing luminizer for the face and body." Catherine plays Morticia Addams in hit Netflix show Morticia Addams and Brett revealed the actress previously worried about looking too much like her character when promoting the show, but had decided to lean into the look a bit more this time around. He explained: "I will say for the first season, they were like: 'Oh, you know, nothing too Goth.' She [Zeta-Jones)] didn't want to look like Morticia. "She had lightened up her hair a touch, and was doing tons of waves. We were making her a little bronzy, just doing anything to lighten it up and have a little separation." The premiere took place at Central Hall in London's Westminster with the stars walking a purple carpet instead of the traditional red. Catherine wore a couture gown by Stéphane Rolland and took along her 10-year-old niece Ava Zeta as her date.

Catherine, Princess of Wales curates museum display

Catherine, Princess of Wales has personally curated a new museum display. The 43-year-old princess - who is the Royal Patron of the V+A - visited the new V+A East Storehouse in London last month and was given a behind-the-scenes tour by the facility's curatorial team to find out more about why objects are collected and how they are cared for and displayed. She then got to work with staff to select items from the museum's collections for her own "mini display" called Makers and Creators, which will be exhibited until early next year. Among the items chosen by the princess was a watercolour painting by Peter Rabbit creator Beatrix Potter - a distant relative of Catherine through her great-great-great uncle - and a childhood photograph album belonging to the author's father, Rupert Potter. The display also includes a costume from The Royal Ballet's 1960 production of The Sleeping Beauty, which was worn by Diana Vere and designed bty Oliver Messel, a mid-20th century sculpture of hands by Clemence Dane, and George Henry Boughton's oil painting titled A Woman Holding a Mirror and a Rose. Finally, Catherine also selected a hand-quilted bedcover made in Wales in the 1830s, a 15th-century earthenware tile, a Qing dynasty porcelain vase from China and a Morris + Co furnishing screen from the mid-1880s. The Makers and Creators exhibit curated by the princess - who has children Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and seven-year-old Prince Louis with husband Prince William - is intended to show how historic objects can influence a vast array of creative fields, including art, fashion, design and film, in the modern day. It will be unveiled at the museum on Wednesday (30.07.25) and is one of over 100 displays that have been presented in the sides and ends of storage racking inside the facility. V+A East Storehouse puts items that would otherwise be in storage on public display and includes more than 250,000 objects, 350,000 books and 1,000 special archives.
