
Workshops damaged, luxury car destroyed in Sibu fire
SIBU (May 24): A fire engulfed two adjoining double-storey workshops at Jalan Wawasan here last night (May 23), severely damaging one of the premises and destroying a luxury vehicle.
Sibu Zone 4 Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Andy Alie said the department received a distress call at 8.29pm.
'The fire is believed to have started at the Gong Yun Enterprise workshop before spreading to the adjacent unit,' he said in a statement, adding that no casualties were reported.
The affected units were identified as 9A, Kiing Machinery Trading, and 9B, Gong Yun Enterprise.
Andy said workshop 9A, measuring 100 by 40 feet, sustained about 80 per cent damage, while 9B suffered around 20 per cent damage, primarily to its fibre roofing layer.
A luxury vehicle parked at the site was completely destroyed in the blaze.
Firefighters from the Sungai Merah station responded with an offensive and defensive strategy, deploying two 300-foot hose lines and three water jets supplied by nearby hydrants.
They were assisted by personnel from the Sibu Sentral station, bringing the total team to 23 firefighters and four vehicles, including two fire engines (FRT), a Hilux unit, and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
Crews managed to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures, and the flames were fully extinguished by 11.11pm.

Car catches fire in Piasau apartment parking lot, no injuries reported
The heavily damaged condition of the front portion of the car, which caught fire. MIRI (June 28): Firefighters were called to Jalan Jinhold in Piasau during the early hours today after a car caught fire in front of an apartment. According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a distress call was received at around 3.21am regarding the incident, which occurred in a parking lot outside a residential apartment. A team of eight personnel from Bomba Miri Sentral was dispatched to the location, about six kilometres away. 'Upon arrival, a Honda Civic parked in front of the apartment was found engulfed in flames, with 80 percent of the front portion already destroyed,' the department said in a statement. Firefighters used one hose, drawing water from their fire engine, to extinguish the blaze. No injuries or fatalities were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. After confirming the scene was safe and fully under control, the team returned to the station.

Back-to-back vehicle fires destroy two vehicles in Betong, damage one in Kuching, no injuries reported
KUCHING, June 21 — A van and a sedan were completely destroyed in Betong, while a hatchback was partially damaged in a separate incident in Bandar Baru Samariang here, yesterday morning. Palm oil tanker crashes in Kuching, driver sustains minor injuries as spill is contained
KUCHING, June 9 — The driver of a palm oil tanker sustained minor injuries after the vehicle crashed near Jalan Setia Raja here this morning. The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) dispatched a team from Tabuan Jaya fire station after receiving a call at 10.31am. Firefighters and police are currently at the scene assessing the situation, while the driver has been taken to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment. It was observed that palm oil from the tanker had spilled to the roadside ditch. 'No rescue operation was conducted as the oil spill was on a grassy roadside and does not pose any hazard to motorists.
