Before Sai Pallavi, Alia Bhatt was being considered for the role of Sita in Ramayana. However, she backed out of the project due to date-related issues. It was later confirmed that Sai Pallavi will be essaying the role of Sita in the movie.
Shooting for Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana is currently underway. While Ranbir Kapoor has already completed his portions of the film, Yash is now shooting for his part in Mumbai. Reportedly, the film is being made on a whopping budget of Rs 835 crore.
Just a few days back, it was also revealed that Ranbir and Yash will barely be seen sharing screen space together in Ramayana. According to sources close to the production, 'The makers have chosen to stay true to the original Valmiki text, where Lord Ram and Raavan do not encounter each other through most of the epic. Their worlds remain apart, their stories unfolding in parallel until destiny brings them face-to-face in the climactic battle. As per the original narrative, Ram learns of Raavan's existence only after Sita's abduction, and the two never meet until the battlefield confrontation in Lanka."
Meanwhile, several media reports also suggest that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared the first promo of Ramayana. The 2-minute-36-second promo has received a 'U' certificate from the Mumbai Regional Office of the board. However, official confirmation regarding this is still awaited.

S Shankar Faces Backlash For Comparing Velpari To Avatar And Game of Thrones
Last Updated: Filmmaker S Shankar faces criticism after claiming his project Velpari could match Avatar and Game of Thrones. Critics cite his recent flops, Game Changer and Indian 2. Filmmaker S Shankar has found himself at the centre of social media criticism after making bold statements about his upcoming project titled Velpari. The director claimed that the film, an adaptation of the historical Tamil novel, has the potential to match the global scale and technological achievements of international hits like Avatar and Game of Thrones. Speaking at a recent event, Shankar said, 'Enthiran (2010 film with superstar Rajinikanth) was my previous dream project. Now, Velpari is my dream film. It has the scope to introduce new technologies like Game of Thrones and Avatar. Velpari has the potential to become the pride of Tamil cinema and Indian cinema. It can achieve global recognition. Hope the dream comes true." 'Enthiran was my Previous Dream project, now #Velpari is my dream film🤞. It scope to introduce new technologies. Like GameOfThrones & Avatar, Velparu has all scope to become our Pride Indian-Tamil film❤️🔥. Hope Dream comes true"– #Shankar at today's event — AmuthaBharathi (@CinemaWithAB) July 11, 2025 However, the director's grand vision has sparked skepticism online, especially given the poor performance of his recent films. His last two releases, Game Changer and Indian 2, failed to meet expectations, both at the box office and among critics. Game Changer, starring Ram Charan, was reportedly made on a massive budget of Rs 400 crore but managed to earn only Rs 186 crore worldwide. Similarly, Indian 2, produced on a budget of Rs 250 crore, grossed about Rs 150 crore globally. Both projects were widely considered commercial disappointments. Following his comments about Velpari, several users on social media platforms expressed frustration, accusing Shankar of focusing too much on high budgets and flashy technology, while ignoring storytelling and financial accountability. One user wrote, 'Producer will have to beg after this film… Sir, at least try to do good films in a limited budget. You waste too much money! Who spent 75 crore for a song only?" Others called for him to scale down his productions or even suggested retirement. Shankar has yet to respond to the backlash, but with no confirmed producer yet attached to Velpari, questions remain about whether the ambitious project will move forward. When Abhishek Bachchan quit college to help Amitabh Bachchan clear Rs 90 crore debt: ‘He had to borrow money from staff..."
Amitabh Bachchan 's life has always been the stuff of Bollywood legends. From being dubbed a 'failed newcomer' to becoming the 'Shahenshah' of Hindi cinema, his story is one of remarkable highs and crushing lows. But perhaps the most testing time of his life came not in front of the camera, but at home, when his company went bankrupt, plunging him into debts of nearly Rs 90 crore. It was such a dark phase that even his son, Abhishek Bachchan , chose to quit college to be by his side. The early days: A superstar born from failures Big B's career did not start off on a rosy note. His initial films failed to impress either the audience or critics. It wasn't until 1973 that he tasted real success, with 'Zanjeer' catapulting him into stardom. From there, he ruled the box office for decades, giving Indian cinema some of its most iconic characters and films. The ABCL gamble that went horribly wrong However, success can sometimes breed overconfidence. In the mid-1990s, Amitabh decided to try his hand at the business side of cinema by launching his company, Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL). Unfortunately, the venture turned into a nightmare. As per multiple reports, ABCL failed to deliver, and the company's financial troubles snowballed into a massive debt of around Rs 90 crore. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo In an interview with India Today, Amitabh candidly spoke about this period, calling it 'undoubtedly one of the darkest periods of my 44-year-old career.' He shared, 'I can never forget how creditors used to land at our door, be abusive, threatening and demanding, and worse still, when they came for 'Kudkee' at Prateeksha, our residence.' Abhishek's decision to stand by his father While Amitabh struggled with the crisis, far away in Boston, his son Abhishek was pursuing his education at Boston University. But even across continents, the father's troubles deeply affected the son. Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast, Abhishek had recalled, 'Well, truth be told, I left university — I was studying in Boston University. I had declared my major as liberal arts, and then I majored in performing arts. And I left my education because my father was going through this really rough time, financially. He had started this business called ABCL.' He added, 'I said I can't be here sitting in Boston when my father doesn't know how he's going to get dinner. And that's how bad it was. And he said it publicly. He had to borrow money from his staff to put food on the table.' 'At least he'll know his boy is next to him' What truly stands out is Abhishek's sense of moral responsibility at such a young age. He revealed, 'I just felt morally obliged to be with him. I called him and I said 'You know dad, I think I want to leave college half-way and come back and just be with you, try and help you in whatever way. At least you'll know that your boy is next to you and he's there for you'.' Abhishek then described how his father responded. Amitabh called him to his study late one night and laid bare the grim reality. He reportedly told Abhishek, 'movies aren't working out, the business isn't working out, nothing is working out.' But true to his resilient nature, Amitabh Bachchan decided to pull himself out of the mess rather than give up. In later interviews, Amitabh often credited his family especially Jaya Bachchan and Abhishek, for standing firmly by his side through this storm. Upcoming projects Today, the Bachchans are once again a symbol of success. Amitabh, even at 82, remains one of the most sought-after actors. He was last seen in 'Vettaiyan', which also marked his debut in Tamil cinema. Fans are now eagerly waiting for him in Nag Ashwin's ambitious 'Kalki 2898 AD' sequel. Additionally, he has Ribhu Dasgupta's 'Section 84' lined up. Meanwhile, Abhishek has carved out his own place in the industry. He was recently seen in the OTT film 'Kaalidhar Laapata' and is currently shooting for Shah Rukh Khan 's 'King'.

‘Maalik' Day 1 box office: Rajkummar Rao starrer off to a modest start

According to the Hindi movie collected ₹3.8 crore on the opening day. The earnings pale in comparison with the result of Rao's previous movie, Bhool Chuk Maaf. Prosenjit Chatterjee, Manushi Chhillar, Saurabh Sachdeva, Saurabh Shukla, Anshumaan Pushkar, Swanand Kirkire, Rajendra Gupta and Baljinder Kaur are the other actors in the movie. Written by Jyotsana Nath and Pulkit, Maalik revolves around gangsters in the socio-politically charged fields of Uttar Pradesh in the 1980s. The movie opened to mixed reviews from critics and fans alike. The Hindu review of the film said, 'The pacing is problematic, the editing is uneven, and the narrative contrivances are left uncovered. The set pieces are gripping, but their tails sag. At 152 minutes, the picture gets pixellated, and one gets piqued. However, the climax featuring a dancing Prosenjit and a scowling Raj once again injects adrenaline.'
