Richard Ashcroft had the crowd at Heaton Park howling with laughter on Friday, after he referenced the now-viral clip of an Oasis fan struggling to to identify one of his greatest hits.
The Verve frontman, 53, has been opening for Liam and Noel Gallagher on their eagerly-awaited reunion tour and winning rave reviews every night.
However, at the band's opening gig at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff last month, one fan was caught unawares when the Verve began their iconic hit, Bitter Sweet Symphony, while the rest of 75,000-strong crowd sang along.
In a clip shared to TikTok, the concertgoer could be seen opening up the Shazam app to try and identify the beloved 1997 track, which the Rolling Stone once named as one of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
The video was captioned: 'Imagine not knowing the greatest song of all time', and quickly went viral online, with many Verve fans furious by the perceived slight and declaring the fan in question didn't deserve their ticket.
They raged: 'Seriously! I couldn't get a ticket because of these people'; 'This is the people who got our tickets'.
'If you don't know bittersweet symphony we can't be friends'; 'And there's real fans from the 90's that couldn't get tickets'.

Kicking off the show, Liam and Noel walked out with their arms around each other in a sweet display of unity, before they proudly gazed on at the crowds, who erupted into rounds of deafening applause.
As the masses gathered on Friday, Liam said: 'Manchester vibes in the area,' before he kicked off the show with Hello, which served as the opening track for their 1995 classic 'What's The Story (Morning Glory).
They then went into Acquiesce - a song from their first 1995 album, which was followed by the iconic Morning Glory - the titular song of the second studio album.
Liam shouted out: 'Yes beautiful people! It's been too long.'
He then ordered the crowd to 'turn around and bounce' ahead of Cigarettes and Alcohol.
After performing Some Might Say, Bring It On Down and Fade Away, Liam went off for a rest, while Noel performed his acoustic version of Talk Tonight.
Then Noel appeared emotional as he performed Half The World Away and even stopped singing for a few bars at one point.
Liam later said: 'Are you having a good time?' before addressing the ticket chaos: 'Was it worth the £40,000 you paid for the ticket.'
Tickets were meant to start at £74.25 for seated tickets at their Wembley shows, with the most expensive ticket being a £506.25 pre-show party.
The brothers put on a united front at their first show
Throughout their various sets, poignant pictures of the family's home in Manchester flashed up on the screen along with baby pictures of both brothers.
Old black and white pictures of their mum Peggy and dad Tommy were also flashed in the screen from time to time as Stand By Me played.
The brothers ended the show with Rock n Roll, but fans cheers for an encore, with the pair strolling back out, with two of their fan favourite hits still to come.
The crowds went wild as they belted out Wonderwall and the brothers became very emotional as they began to close down the show.
'Thanks for putting up with us over the years. We're hard work. We get it,' Liam gushed.
They then rounded off their first gig in 16 years with legendary track Champagne Supernova.

Liverpool street where Beatles legend George Harrison was born puts a chain up...to stop tourists getting in

They come from Here, There and Everywhere to see the childhood home of the Beatles legend George Harrison. But residents in the terrace street where the late guitarist spent the first seven years of his life have become increasingly irate at being inundated with tourists and day trippers – and have now chained off the road in an attempt to stop the disruption. Access to Arnold Grove was restricted earlier this month after residents complained that the number of Beatles fans descending on the street had surged since a blue heritage plaque was put up outside number 12, where Harrison lived, last year. A chain now in place across the entrance to the street in Liverpool's Wavertree district carries a sign which says: 'Private Road - Residents Access Only'. Arnold Grove is unadopted, meaning Liverpool City Council is not responsible for it. Harrison, the Beatles' lead guitarist, was the youngest of four children and lived in the street until his family moved into a council house in the suburb of Speke. The three-bedroom property is now and Air BnB marketed at Beatles fans. As is the case with John Lennon, Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney's childhood homes in South Liverpool, Arnold Grove has become a hotspot for tourists - featuring on tours - and residents of the Wavertree street said this has only increased since the plaque was installed. The BBC reported on Monday that a chain was put up as residents had complained about their privacy being invaded by tourists. Chris Bennett, who lives on the street and is licensee of The Cock and Bottle pub on the nearby High Street, told the BBC: 'Since the blue plaque went up it's been ridiculous.. The volume of traffic is too much now and we don't get any peace. 'The first taxi could come at 9am and my wife will see another on the road when she gets home at 9pm. 'You get people looking through the window and if you leave your front door open they look through the door.' The Magical Mystery tour run by the Cavern Club, the Liverpool venue synonymous with the Beatles, is one of the tours which frequently calls at the site. But a resident called Onyema, who didn't wish to give his surname, said he had lived on Arnold Grove for around a year and did not see the visits of Beatles fans as a problem. He told the Liverpool Echo: 'Tourists don't park here, they park the tour coaches on the main road and then they come here. They always come around but I don't have a problem with it. 'It's a good street to live on - it's a lovely place. I like the fact tourists come here.' Harrison's widow, Olivia, unveils the plaque outside his childhood home in May 2024 The tour used to take people onto the street but this has stopped since the chain was put in place. Holly Andrews, 36, from Pennsylvania, USA, was among the Beatles tourists to depart the bus in Wavertree on Friday. She was sad not to have made it onto the street but understood concerns from the residents. She said: 'I did this tour in 2008 and I was just looking at my photo from being in front of the house. But in the same token, these people have a right to their own privacy and their homes. 'It's great to be able to see it and imagine the guys walking down the street and doing their thing. But it's also being respectful to the home owners and striking that balance.' Liverpool-based Beatles tour guide Jackie Spencer wrote on Facebook: 'Many people are contacting me asking my opinion on the chain across Arnold Grove. I've been biding my time and considering how to reply, but the truth is I am livid. 'Not at the residents of Arnold Grove. Not at all. 'They've put up with a lot over the years and in my 30 years as a guide they've always been lovely and welcoming to me because I have never overstepped the mark and treated everyone with the respect and gratitude they deserve. (left to right) Ringo Starr, George Harrison, John Lennon and Paul McCartney in a Beatles publicity picture from 1963 'I am livid at the fake unlicensed guides, taxi drivers & lone tourists who have absolutely no respect for people's privacy.' 12 Arnold Grove was marked with a blue plaque to celebrate George's contribution to culture through film, music and his humanitarian work. The musician's widow, Olivia Harrison unveiled the Historic England plaque in May 2024. Somewhat prophetically, she said that while her husband would have been 'touched' by his childhood home being honoured, she felt he would be 'nervous' the current residents might get disrupted because of it. A spokesman for the Magical Mystery tour told The Telegraph that it had received no previous complaints about increasing tourist numbers, and said it had a 'great relationship' with the street's residents. Harrison died in November 2001 at the age of 58 following a battle with cancer.

The 1% Club wipes out a whopping 25 players with this seemingly simple question - but can YOU get it right?

The 1% Club players were tripped up by a seemingly simple question that wiped out a whopping 25 contestants. A vintage episode of the ITV quiz show, hosted by Lee Mack, saw 100 contestants attempt to win a hefty cash prize. The programme's questions were put to the public, with the percentage who got it right determining the difficulty of each round. As the name implies, the final question is the one that just 1 per cent of the public managed to figure out. This time, it was a 60 per cent question that caught people out - causing the crowd to gasp in shock at the number of eliminated players. An image popped up onto the big screen, depicting a brick wall with golden bricks, with some of the bricks in the middle of the wall missing. The question asked: 'How many bricks are missing from this wall?' Have a go and see if you can correctly answer the easy puzzle that fooled so many. Players could compare the sizes of the rows of empty spaces to the sizes of the visible bricks to get the correct answer. The correct answer was 12, and a shocking 25 people answered incorrectly, causing them to be wiped out of the game and leaving 70 optimistic players remaining. The live studio audience gasped in shock, and host Lee joined in when the number of wrong answers emerged. It comes after The 1% Club's return date was confirmed, with ITV announcing a huge shake-up to its format that 'will leave the nation hooked'. The quiz show started in April, 2022, and has since proven hugely successful, winning two National Television Awards. The fourth series of the show, which is normally shown on Saturday nights, ended in May - but ITV has now announced it will be back in autumn, in a brand new form. Players could compare the sizes of the rows of empty spaces to the sizes of the visible bricks to get the correct answer, which was 12 Instead of airing just one night per week, the programme will be transformed to create a five-day special event renamed The 1% Club Rollover. The basic gameplay will remain the same - but if the prize pot is not won on one episode, it will roll over to the next. It will raise the stakes massively as if all pots rolled over for all five days, it means an astonishing £500,000 could be up for grabs by the final episode of the week. Not only this, anyone who gets as far as the final one per cent quiz question will automatically win the right to come back for the next episode of the week to play again. It means if someone wins big during one show, they could still potentially get more on the next episode - doubling, tripling or even quadrupling their winnings. The new five-day special version of The 1% Club recalls the structure of other popular newer quiz shows, like Richard Osman's House Of Games. It capitalises on the existing smash success of the programme, which is the biggest original quiz show in more than a decade. The show regularly sees six million viewers tune in every episode - and across its three-year run so far, it has been streamed more than 40 million times. The 1% Club has won two Broadcast Awards and a Rose d'Or, all for Best Entertainment Show. It was also awarded a Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Award for Best Game Show. It has also received two BAFTA nominations, for Best Entertainment Show and for Best Entertainment Performance by Lee Mack. Sue Murphy, ITV's head of factual entertainment, said: 'The 1% Club Rollover as event TV is a perfect fit. 'The series continues to go from strength to strength and has become a must watch in homes across the country on Saturday nights. 'This special Rollover week will really be a primetime event that will have the nation hooked. Five nights of The 1% Club and Lee Mack… What's not to like?'

The Chase branded a ‘fix' by fuming fans as Jenny Ryan stops £142k going to charity – would you know the final answer?

THE Chase fans have branded the quiz a 'fix' - as Jenny Ryan stopped £142,000 going to charity. The ITV game show pits members of the public against a trivia genius. 4 4 4 Cheryl Baker, Mark Steel, Laura Tobin and Jason Bell faced Jenny "The Vixen" Ryan in a celebrity edtion. While Jenny caught Jason, the other three all advanced to the Final Chase. The team set an impressive target of 19 - while managing to push back Jenny multiple times. However, the Chaser still managed to wipe out the famous faces within her time limit. This meant Cheryl, Mark and Laura left with £1,000 each for their charities, losing out on the £142,000 on the line. Writing on X, one viewer commented: "Oh come on. "Charity show yet the chaser still gets questions like 'What 3 letter word is short for magazine'. Absolute stitch up #TheChase". Another wrote: "Bradley Walsh needs to stop speeding up when asking the chaser questions on the final round. Bit of a fix really #TheChase". While a third shared: "@ITVChase... The game is blatantly fixed! What is the point?" Speaking afterwards, host Bradley Walsh told the team: "Four attempts to push back, three executed, caught with three seconds remaining, you needed one more. The Chase hit by 'fix' claims as chaser Jenny Ryan wins after controversial answer "Do you know what that one more was?" He added: " Jason Bell. I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to take £142,000 away." Elsewhere, a festive celebrity episode of The Chase saw a team win £116,000 - in controversial fashion. The group comprised Coronation Street actor Tony Maudsley, Pointless host Alexander Armstrong, Olympic gold medallist Bryony Page, and comedian Kerry Godliman. But fans were left confused by one answer, which saw Alexander asked: "What name is given to a pointed hand tool used for making holes in the ground for seeds or young plants?" The Chase's best moments The Chase has been entertaining ITV viewers for years, here are some of the show's most memorable moments... Bradley Walsh can't stop laughing Every time host Bradley Walsh erupts into fits of laughter on The Chase it makes for pretty entertaining TV. One particularly memorable occasion was when he was asking the question 'The title of which Elvis Presley song was engraved of the inside of Freddie Star's coffin?" As usual the contestant was given four multiple choices but Bradley could get through reading them out before bursting into hysterics. Seeming the idea of the song being option 'B: Way Down' was too much for the presenter to handle. The Double Trouble special To celebrate 15 years of The Chase on screens, ITV launched a special 'double trouble' episode where contestants faced off against not one but two of the show's beloved Chasers. And despite the odds, the contestants managed to go home with some cash! The contestants with famous names Eagle-eyed ITV fans are always quick to spot interesting and sometimes hidden details on the quiz show - but there have been a few times where the names of some contestants have been overtly obvious. For example, one 2017 episode of the quiz show saw Bradley welcome four contestants who were named after Friends characters Ross, Rachel, Phoebe and Joey. Another group of contestants with named from The Simpsons were also grouped together in another episode, much to viewers' amusement. The Beast's anger gets the best of him During an episode from the 2024 season, Mark Labbett let out his inner beast as he exploded in a fit of anger. Close to losing the competition in the Final Chase, Mark then made a silly mistake and incorrectly answered the question, 'Rabbit was a 1980 hit for which Cockney duo?' 'Oh, you idiot!' he yelled at himself while slamming the table in front of him. With seconds left on the clock, the Chaser then admitted defeat, moaning "I don't deserve to win." He had the options A) Dibble B) Nibble C) Quibble Alexander chose dibble, which Bradley confirmed as correct. But according to gardening enthusiasts, the proper term is "dibber", not "dibble". T he Chase airs on ITV1 and ITVX. 4
