Jackie Chan jokes about making Rush Hour 4 at 100, teases return to Shanghai Noon sequel

Express Tribune30-05-2025
Jackie Chan recently offered a humorous update on the long-anticipated Rush Hour 4, joking that both he and co-star Chris Tucker might be past their prime by the time it finally happens. Speaking with ScreenRant, Chan quipped, 'Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old. We'll be old men doing Rush Hour,' when asked about the sequel's status.
Though no official production timeline has been announced, Chan emphasized he's still eager to return to the franchise, which launched in 1998 and earned over $850 million globally across three films. The last entry, Rush Hour 3, hit theaters in 2007. Chan previously shared in 2017 that he and Tucker had agreed on a script, but progress has since stalled.
Alongside Rush Hour, Chan is also eyeing a return to another early-2000s buddy comedy series. He confirmed that a third installment in the Shanghai Noon franchise, titled Shanghai Dawn, remains in development. 'The script is still going on,' Chan told ScreenRant.
Back in 2016, Chan and Owen Wilson were reportedly working on the sequel with MGM. Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) was attached to direct, based on a story by Smallville creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, with a script by Theodore Riley and Aaron Buchsbaum.
As Chan revisits some of his most iconic roles, fans of both franchises are hopeful that long-awaited sequels will eventually move forward. While timelines remain uncertain, Chan's playful optimism and continued enthusiasm suggest audiences may not have seen the last of these beloved duos.

Christopher Nolan faces challenge casting Matt Damon as Odysseus in The Odyssey adaptation

As Christopher Nolan prepares to bring The Odyssey to the big screen, a major question looms: can Matt Damon convincingly portray the epic transformation of Odysseus? With a $250 million budget and a high-profile cast, Nolan's adaptation of Homer's legendary poem faces high expectations—and significant creative hurdles. This transformation, central to Homer's narrative, hinges on both visual deception and emotional payoff. While the scale and spectacle of the project promise cinematic grandeur, some experts point to a subtler yet critical challenge. Harvard Professor Gregory Nagy, a scholar of Greek literature, highlighted in an interview with Screen Rant the difficulty of portraying Odysseus' dramatic physical and emotional shift. After two decades away—ten years at war and ten years lost at sea—Odysseus returns to Ithaca in disguise as a beggar. This descent from royal hero to apparent outcast is essential to the story's impact. Nagy emphasized that in Homer's tale, Odysseus' appearance changes so drastically that even his son barely recognizes him, likening him to a radiant, youthful groom. Making such a transformation believable, especially with a well-known Hollywood actor like Damon, will be a demanding task for the production. The success of this arc depends on selling the full contrast between Odysseus' lowest and highest moments—both visually and emotionally. Despite these challenges, excitement around the project remains high, especially with the release of the film's first teaser trailer. Currently playing in select theaters ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth, the teaser offers a sweeping vision of ancient Greece. It features Tom Holland as Telemachus and a brief shot of Damon's Odysseus adrift at sea. Set to release on July 17, 2026, Nolan's The Odyssey promises epic storytelling—but must also overcome the unique challenge of transforming a modern movie star into a mythic hero torn down and reborn.

Denis Villeneuve to direct bond 26 with jacob elordi, tom holland, and harris dickinson eyed for 007

Denis Villeneuve is set to direct the next James Bond movie, with Amazon eyeing a 2028 release for Bond 26, according to sources. Villeneuve was selected over several notable directors, including Edward Berger, Edgar Wright, Paul King, and Jonathan Nolan. With the film's large scale, insiders suggest a 2028 timeline is the most feasible, as a faster production would be challenging. Amazon's next step involves securing a writer and an actor for the coveted role of Agent 007. The studio and producers are reportedly focusing on a British actor under 30, with Jacob Elordi ("Saltburn"), Tom Holland ("Spider-Man"), and Harris Dickinson ("Babygirl") among the top contenders. Though Elordi is Australian, Amazon is not concerned, as seen with George Lazenby, who was Australian and played Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. While Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Henry Cavill have been mentioned as possible options, their ages—35 and 42—make them less likely to fit the studio's preference. Director Alfonso Cuarón was initially considered for the role but withdrew to focus on other projects, including Jane, a film starring Charlize Theron. Christopher Nolan, a potential contender as director, was also of interest to Amazon, but his schedule is occupied with The Odyssey, a project starring Holland. Villeneuve, best known for Dune, is currently planning to film Dune: Messiah later this year, with a 2026 release date in mind. His deal for the Bond film is a one-off, meaning he is not contracted for sequels and does not have final cut privileges, a decision that deviates from previous Bond films where the Broccoli family held tight creative control. Villeneuve's appointment marks a significant shift in the franchise's creative direction as Amazon takes over from MGM.

Jerry Bruckheimer hints at Johnny Depp's return as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6

Pirates of the Caribbean franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently shared an update on the highly anticipated sixth installment, revealing that some familiar faces will return, but the movie will take a "new take" on the beloved franchise. The long-awaited sequel has been in the works since the release of Dead Men Tell No Tales, though the project hit a setback after Johnny Depp's departure due to his defamation trial against Amber Heard. Depp, who portrayed the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow, previously expressed no desire to reprise his role, leaving fans wondering about the future of the series. In an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan for F1, scheduled to release on June 27, Bruckheimer discussed the current status of the film, confirming that the script is still being developed. In an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan, Bruckheimer gave insight into the film's current status and its direction: 'We're working on a screenplay. Hopefully we'll get it right — and then we'll make it. We really want to make it, that's for sure,' Bruckheimer said, emphasizing the team's dedication to getting the script right before moving forward. When asked if the upcoming film would be a continuation of previous stories or something entirely new, he responded, 'It'll be a new take on it.' On the subject of casting, Bruckheimer confirmed, 'Well, not all new actors. We'll have some back,' hinting at the return of some familiar characters. However, when pressed on which characters would be rejoining the cast, he remained tight-lipped, adding, 'I'm not going to tell you which ones — you'll have to guess.' With the script still in development, Bruckheimer's comments suggest that the next Pirates of the Caribbean film will feature a blend of fresh perspectives while still staying rooted in the legacy of the franchise. With the last release taking place more than 7 years ago, and our beloved Jack Sparrow facing a malicious legal battle in between and even more coming victorious out of it,somehow makes the next installment even more anticipated with his return.
