Dave Grohl honours Taylor Hawkins on 30th anniversary of Foo Fighters' debut album
In a heartfelt letter to fans shared on the Foo Fighters' website on Wednesday, the frontman reflected on the formation of the rock group and the release of their first album back in July 1995.
"Over the years, we've had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak. Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat," he wrote. "We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can't go it alone."
Grohl went on to honour late drummer Hawkins, who died while on tour in Bogotá, Colombia at the age of 50 in March 2022.
The Foo Fighters played two tribute concerts in his memory later that year.
"And... Taylor. Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever," the 56-year-old continued. "The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivalled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination."
The current Foo Fighters line-up consists of Grohl, bassist Nate Mendel, guitarists Pat Smear and Chris Shifflett, and keyboardist Rami Jaffee.
And to conclude his note, the rocker praised the contribution of former members, such as guitarist Franz Stahl, and drummers William Goldsmith and Josh Freese.
"It should go without saying that without the boundless energy of William Goldsmith, the seasoned wisdom of Franz Stahl, and the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese, this story would be incomplete, so we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music, and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen," he added.
The Foo Fighters also dropped a new single, Today's Song, this week.
Their next show is scheduled to take place in Jakarta, Indonesia on 2 October.

Foo Fighters are the latest musical stars to see older works surge thanks to the arrival of an exciting new single. Greatest Hits Returns to the Charts In early July, Foo Fighters released "Today's Song," a somewhat surprising single that, so far, doesn't have a home on any album. The track has been living on several Billboard charts for three weeks now, and its arrival and continued ascent across a number of rankings has brought the band's Greatest Hits compilation back in a big way. This week, Greatest Hits appears on three Billboard tallies after being absent from all of them just days ago. The singles-packed project reenters the Top Hard Rock Albums tally at No. 13, while also landing on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums roster at No. 48. Foo Fighters return to the Billboard 200, albeit barely, as Greatest Hits breaks back in at No. 198. The compilation coincidentally sits one rung below another simply-titled Greatest Hits collection by Blink-182. Foo Fighters' set moved just under 8,800 equivalent units in the past tracking frame, according to Luminate. Almost all of those units came from streaming activity, as the project sold fewer than 400 copies. Foo Fighters' New Single's Unlikely Impact It's worth mentioning that "Today's Song" is not featured on Greatest Hits, so sales and streams of the track don't directly benefit the compilation. Instead, all the excitement surrounding the brand new tune appears to be reminding American audiences just how much they love the band. In turn, large numbers of listeners are heading to streaming platforms to press play on the many smashes that made Foo Fighters chart-toppers in the first place, which pushes the album's figure higher and higher. Hundreds of Weeks on the Charts Greatest Hits has already spent hundreds of weeks on each of the tallies it appears on this frame. While it has risen into the highest reaches of two genre-specific albums rankings — at one point dominating the Top Hard Rock Albums list — the collection never broke into the top 10 on the Billboard 200, instead peaking at No. 11. Since the band released the set in 2009, Greatest Hits has fallen away from these charts and returned multiple times. It seems something as simple as dropping a new single can be enough to push it back onto various lists. "Today's Song" is an Airplay Winner "Today's Song" currently lives on half a dozen tallies. While it slips on two general consumption rankings, the Foo Fighters cut manages to climb on several others. The single reaches No. 1 on the Rock & Alternative Airplay list, earning the band its twelfth leader. At the same time, it breaks into the top 10 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay roster, bolting from No. 24 to No. 10. The tune also reaches that region on the Alternative Airplay list, soaring to No. 6. Foo Fighters debut "Today's Song" at No. 32 on the Adult Alternative Airplay list, where the tune is just getting started.

Fact Check: Watch out for videos of ginormous anacondas in Amazon River
Claim: A series of videos shows massive, real-life anacondas swimming through the Amazon River. Rating: In July 2025, several videos began circulating across social media platforms, allegedly showing aerial footage of gigantic anacondas slithering through the Amazon River. These videos, some of which received millions of views, appeared to show unnaturally large snakes moving through dense jungle waterways. One TikTok post (archived) with the footage gained over 36 million views on TikTok. Similar videos spread across platforms including Instagram, Facebook, X and Reddit. However, these videos did not depict real-life events. They were created using AI video generation tools, most likely Sora, a text-to-video model developed by OpenAI. Many of the clips included a subtle watermark in the bottom-right corner indicating the use of such a tool. Additionally, no reputable news agencies or wildlife organizations reported any recent sightings of extraordinarily large anacondas in the Amazon River. While green anacondas (Eunectes murinus) are indeed among the largest snakes in the world and inhabit the region, the ones shown in these videos are far larger than any known specimen, and clearly fabricated. As such, we have rated these videos as fake. Wave of AI anaconda videos spreads online The TikTok profile (archived) @ which had over 387,300 followers as of this writing, featured dozens of AI-generated videos, many of which depicted surreal wildlife scenes, such as giant anacondas in the Amazon rain forest (see screenshot below). (TikTok user @ One of the user's TikTok videos (archived) reached over 12 million views, with a caption reading: During a routine surveillance mission over the Amazon River, a military helicopter crew spotted something unbelievable — a massive black anaconda gliding through the jungle waters. The size and speed of the serpent stunned the crew, and the footage is sending chills across the internet!Was this just a freak encounter… or is something colossal lurking in the Amazon depths? The description further stated 📍Location: Amazon River Basin 🎥 Type: AI-generated concept" and featured "#AIConcept" hashtag, among other ones. While this video at least included the disclosure that it was AI-generated, many viewers seemed to take it at face value, expressing shock and belief in the video's authenticity. Most other viral versions of the footage, however, lacked any disclaimer or context indicating they were AI-generated. Additionally, the clips featured a subtle OpenAI Blossom logo watermark in the bottom-right corner, indicating they were created using the AI video generator Sora (see image below). (TikTok use @ Illustration) The TikTok user confirmed personally creating all the videos using the AI tool Sora, consistent with the watermarks visible in the clips. The videos also displayed several telltale signs of being artificially created. For example, the massive snakes appeared to float on the surface of the water without interacting realistically with their surroundings. What's more, the textures of the snakes' skin and the water looked unnatural and overly smooth, lacking the detail and complexity seen in real footage. Finally, no reputable media outlets reported any verified sightings of such creatures, and the snakes depicted in the videos were of a size far beyond anything known to science. While real green anacondas are among the biggest snakes on Earth, the exaggerated scale shown in these AI-generated clips indicated they were entirely fabricated. (Don't) do it yourself To test how easily such viral snake videos could be created, we used Sora. With just a simple prompt, reading: " "generate a video, a view from above, pretty high, showing multiple anacondas in amazon river," we were able to produce a video that closely resembled the viral videos circulating online. (Sora) The videos were created in under a minute, with no need for editing software or wildlife knowledge. Notably, this was done with a very basic, first-try prompt. With just a little more effort, such as specifying camera movement, lighting, environmental effects, or more natural snake behavior, the results could be made even more realistic and harder to distinguish from genuine footage.
