Lucknow: The state govt has launched an initiative to restore 11 historic forts and buildings — including Alambagh Bhawan, Gulistan-e-Eram and Darshan Vilas Kothi in the city — through the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
A senior govt official said the project is aimed at preserving the state's architectural legacy while promoting tourism and creating employment opportunities across regions.
Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the tourism department will implement the plan in collaboration with private agencies, which will be responsible for the design, development and operation of the sites before handing them over to govt.
The official added that the selected structures are known for their unique architecture and historical significance and will be transformed into heritage hotels, cultural centers or museums.
The 11 heritage sites slated for rejuvenation are: Talbehat Fort (Lalitpur), Rangarh and Bhuragarh Fort (Banda), Wazirganj Baradari (Gonda), Alambagh Bhawan, Gulistan-e-Eram, and Darshan Vilas (Lucknow), Tikait Rai Baradari (Kanpur), Mastani Mahal and Senapati Mahal (Mahoba), Tahrauli Fort (Jhansi), and Sitaram Mahal or Kotwan Fort (Mathura).

The initiative is expected to particularly benefit regions like Bundelkhand, where heritage tourism has the potential to significantly strengthen the local economy. The official noted that this approach is part of govt's broader strategy to balance cultural preservation with economic development.
This effort also aligns with the CM's ongoing push to promote eco-tourism and religious tourism, which has already contributed to a tourism boom in Uttar Pradesh. In 2024 alone, the state recorded a footfall of 65 crore tourists, reflecting the growing impact of such initiatives,he added.

SCO visit: 'Avoid trade roadblock,' says EAM Jaishankar - Is it pointed towards China's curbs on critical minerals export?
NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Monday called upon China to avoid "restrictive trade measures and roadblocks" in an apparent reference to Beijing's move to impose curbs on export of critical minerals. "As neighbouring nations and major economies in the world today, there are various facets and dimensions of our ties. Measures towards normalizing our people to people exchanges can certainly foster mutually beneficial cooperation. It is also essential in this context that restrictive trade measures and roadblocks are avoided. I hope to discuss these issues in further detail," he said in his opening address during his meeting with Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi. The discussions were held just hours after Jaishankar arrived in China for a two-day visit to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conclave. This marks his first trip to the country since the sharp decline in bilateral relations after the Galwan Valley clashes in June 2020. He also pressed upon the need to address border issues, while also highlighting the progress made on the same in the past nine months. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "Excellency, we have made good progress in the past nine months for the normalization of our bilateral relations. It is a result of the resolution of friction along the border and our ability to maintain peace and tranquility there. This is the fundamental basis for mutual strategic trust and for smooth development of bilateral relations. It is now incumbent on us to address other aspects related to the border, including de-escalation," he said. China, which commands a dominant share of the global rare earth magnet supply, has imposed export restrictions, tightening access to these critical minerals essential for producing automobiles, electric vehicles (EVs), and renewable energy infrastructure. Rare earth magnets play a critical role in high-tech industries, powering everything from electric vehicles and smartphones to wind turbines and defense equipment.

Elon Musk's ‘one word' reply on supporting merger between xAI and Tesla
Elon Musk has responded to a 'burning' question whether he wants Tesla to merge with his artificial intelligence (AI) company, xAI. The Tesla CEO has also indicated that Tesla shareholders will have to decide on the opportunity to invest in xAI. 'No,' Musk said while replying to the question by Bull Street Bets, 'Asking $TSLA Investors: Do you support a merger between XAi and Tesla?' US markets today: Wall Street dips after Donald Trump announces new tariffs on EU and Mexico, investor eye earnings season
US stock markets edged lower Monday after President Donald Trump announced sweeping new tariffs on goods from the European Union and Mexico, raising concerns about renewed trade tensions. Despite the early pullback, major indexes remained near record highs as investors assessed the likelihood of a negotiated outcome before the August 1 deadline. The S&P 500 slipped 0.1% in early trade, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 78 points, or 0.2%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite inched up 0.1%, buoyed by gains in select technology stocks, AP reported. Futures had signalled a weak start earlier in the day, with the S&P 500, Dow, and Nasdaq futures each retreating around 0.3% following Trump's announcement over the weekend that the US would impose 30% tariffs on a wide range of imports from the EU and Mexico starting next month. The move extends the administration's ongoing tariff campaign, which had previously targeted China and other major trading partners. The EU, America's largest economic partner, is expected to face significant economic fallout if the tariffs take effect. Analysts warned that the levies could raise prices for US consumers on European products ranging from cheese to electronics while rattling European economies. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo In response, Germany's DAX index fell 1%, and France's CAC 40 dropped 0.5%. However, Britain's FTSE 100 gained 0.4%, aided by its separate trade deal with the US post-Brexit. The Trump administration has extended its original deadline for new trade deals from July 10 to August 1, leaving a narrow window for potential negotiations. Analysts said they expected efforts to avoid escalation, with some projecting that talks could moderate the impact. On Wall Street, investor focus is also shifting toward earnings season, which kicks off Tuesday. JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, and Citigroup are among the top US banks set to report quarterly results. Their performance will be closely watched for clues on consumer demand and credit trends in a high-interest-rate environment. Outside trade and earnings, individual stocks made headlines. Shares of Kenvue surged nearly 6% after the consumer health company announced the resignation of CEO Thibaut Mongon. The company, a spin-off from Johnson & Johnson, is undergoing a strategic review as it navigates the post-split market. In cryptocurrency markets, Bitcoin surged as much as 3.6% to hit an all-time high of $121,315 before settling lower. The rally comes ahead of 'Crypto Week' in Congress, where lawmakers will discuss key legislation that could shape the future of digital asset regulation. Asian markets were mixed. China's Shanghai Composite and Hong Kong's Hang Seng both rose 0.3%, boosted by stronger-than-expected export data amid the ongoing truce in the US-China trade spat. South Korea's Kospi gained 0.8%, while Japan's Nikkei 225 dipped 0.3%. Crude oil prices rose, with US benchmark WTI climbing $1.05 to $69.50 a barrel and Brent crude adding $1.03 to reach $71.39. Oil prices rebounded toward $70 levels after falling sharply in late June. In currency markets, the dollar edged up to 147.45 yen, while the euro slipped slightly to $1.1690.
