Real Madrid begin contract renewal process for breakout sensation
The 21-year-old forward has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects at the club, but his future remains uncertain due to the intense competition in Real Madrid's attack.
Gonzalo's current deal runs until 2027, yet his representatives are already negotiating an extension with the club.
Despite this, the striker is attracting plenty of attention from outside Spain, especially from Premier League clubs who are monitoring his situation closely.
Several English sides have already sent offers, hoping to tempt the youngster away from Madrid.
A loan move likely
Gonzalo made headlines earlier this year with his standout performances at the FIFA Club World Cup. He finished the tournament as Real Madrid's top scorer, netting four goals and providing one assist in just six matches.
His strong display on the global stage has opened new doors for his career, but it has also created complications regarding his place in the team.

With Real Madrid's forward line already full of world-class players, opportunities for regular game time in the 2025/26 season look slim for the youngster.
This is why a loan move is now being seriously considered. Getafe are currently the front-runners for his services, with their president, Angel Torres, making it clear that bringing Gonzalo to the club is a top priority.
Decision after pre-season
Interestingly, Getafe are not the only club interested. Premier League sides have also shown significant interest, further complicating the decision for both Gonzalo and Real Madrid.
The striker's representatives were reportedly caught off guard by the sudden spike in demand, particularly after his success at the Club World Cup.
For now, Xabi Alonso plans to wait until the end of pre-season before making a final call on Gonzalo's immediate future.
Whether it ends in a contract renewal, a loan move to Getafe, or a transfer abroad, one thing is clear that Gonzalo is a player in high demand, and his next step will be crucial for his career development.

From hospital bed to hero: Bonmatí's goal sends Spain to first Euros final
Aitana Bonmatí began the Women's European Championship recovering from a hospital stay. On Wednesday, she steered Spain to another major final against England. The two-time Ballon d'Or winner scored the extra-time clincher in a 1-0 semifinal victory over Germany and set up a rematch of the World Cup final in 2023, when Spain beat England 2-1. Bonmatí's preparations for Euro 2025 were seriously disrupted when the Barcelona midfielder was hospitalized with viral meningitis less than a week before the tournament. 'I wanted to get to this game at my best level and that's thanks to all the people next to me, who helped me to reach this game at my top level because on my own it wouldn't have been possible," Bonmatí said. Bonmatí's goal created history for Spain. It was the first win in nine attempts against Germany and secured a place in the European final for the first time. 'I don't believe in destiny. I believe in hard work, my mentality, and all the support I have received,' the 27-year-old Bonmatí said. The match was seven minutes from a nerve-wracking penalty shootout when Bonmatí gathered a pass and got past Rebecca Knaak with a clever dummy and turn before squeezing home an audacious attempt from the tightest of angles. The goal also ended a rare drought for Bonmatí, who hadn't scored in her previous six appearances. 'It wasn't easy for her at the beginning of the tournament but she has a special personality to be at the maximum level,' Spain coach Montse Tomé said. 'She has a huge capacity to create spaces, where she can generate opportunities like today. 'And she managed to overcome the health issues she had at the beginning of the tournament. Good work was done with her to get her back to the level she's at now, she helps the team a lot.' Spain is aiming to add the European title to its collection after winning the World Cup and Nations League in the past two years. To do that it has to get beat defending champion England in Basel on Sunday. 'Tomorrow we will think about England," Bonmatí said. 'Now it is time to celebrate.' ___ AP soccer:

NBC could resurrect a sports cable channel in sports media twist
Executives at NBCUniversal are eying a new sports cable network, roughly four years after they shuttered the previous one the company operated. The unnamed cable channel would carry sports that will also stream on the company's service, Peacock, with the network potentially going live as early as the fall, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday. No decision has been made, and talks are in the early stage, according to the report, but the network would be available on cable and satellite services as part of specialty packages. NBC could bring back a sports cable network. Getty Images The channel would complement the Peacock streaming platform and would give the company a safety net of sorts if its subscriber base doesn't grow as quickly as the network anticipates. The news comes months before NBC officially joins as a broadcast partner for the NBA, which cost NBCU roughly $2.5 billion annually for the rights to carry the league package. NBA games this season will air on both linear NBC and on Peacock. The Wall Street Journal report also indicated that the potential sports network would be made available through specific cable packages, rather than the broader plan that includes other sports networks such as ESPN and Fox Sports 1. Previously, NBC operated NBC Sports Network — also known as NBCSN — before it shut down in 2021 due to low ratings and its inability to compete with ESPN. NBCSN used to cover the NHL before the channel was shuttered in 2021. NHLI via Getty Images NBCU has aired 'Sunday Night Football' simulcasts on Peacock, along with an exclusive NFL game that is carried only on the streaming service. Other sports offerings on the streamer include golf, college football, the Olympics and Premier League soccer before the NBA enters the fray in the fall. Peacock's subscription cost went up by $3 to $10.99 a month for its ad-supported tier and to $16.99 for its tier with no commercials.
