The themes are qualities required by athletic entertainers/entertaining athletes: Balance, Strength, Endurance, Daring, Nerve, Teamwork, and Combat (as in bullfighting, wrestling, boxing). Each attribute gets its own display case. There's also one devoted to Roots, with attention paid to the Roman Colosseum, medieval tournaments, Carnival in Renaissance Venice, and equestrian vaulting — it's the person who vaults, not the horse.
'All Stars' does have a
diving
horse. It would take a 40-foot plunge six times a day at Atlantic City's Steel Pier. Other notable performers, most of them human, make appearances. M. Blondin, a French aerialist, crossed Niagara Falls several times on a tightrope on a single day in 1859. A crowd of 25,000 watched. The Fearless Frogman was good at holding his breath. The English Samson was a muscle man, and the Female Hercules a muscle woman. Imagine if they'd met and had children.

Also encountered are contortionists, acrobats, 'hand balancers,' rope walkers, stunt pilots, 'Bloomer Girls' (members of all-female baseball teams), marathon dancers, and roller derby skaters. Roller derby! Those skaters (unlike the ones in the Balance display) are in the Teamwork section. They could also qualify for Daring, Nerve, and Combat.
Perhaps the most wondrous thing in this gathering of wonders isn't a person (or even a horse) but an object. Robert Cruikshank's 'Going to a Fight,' from 1819, is a panoramic hand-colored etching. It shows 42 scenes leading up to a boxing match. This was five decades before the Marquess of Queensberry came along with his rules, so the bout must have been more UFC than Golden Gloves. The panorama, whose height is a little more than 2½ inches, is rolled up. Its full length is just under 13 feet.
Competition may matter more now, but as proof that sports can remain entertainment simply consider the spectacle that is professional wrestling. It's hard to imagine

"I went, 'Oh s–t, it's real. It happened. I won.' It felt great in that moment, then I went, 'Okay, well, this is 10 years of your life. "I just booked a starring role in a Universal Pictures film, which is really exciting for me," she says. "It has not been announced yet. I can't say what it is, but I will say that it is being directed by Adam Shankman, who I have loved for forever. Everybody's going to get to see me do what I do best. I'm going to be fun, I'm going to be funny and I'm going to get to sing and dance." While their upcoming collaboration still remains a mystery, Ginger Minj previously acted in Hocus Pocus 2, which Shankman produced. Shankman, who you may remember as a choreographer and judge on So You Think You Can Dance, has also directed musical films like Hairspray, Rock of Ages and Disenchanted. In addition to the top secret movie, Ginger Minj is also "fielding a couple of Broadway offers right now," but remained mum on whether she'd be taking over a role in an existing Broadway show or originating a new one. Currently, both two-time Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon and Season 15's Marcia Marcia Marcia are on Broadway. While Jinkx is about to transition from Pirates! The Penzance Musicalto Oh, Mary!, Marcia is performing nightly in Cabaret. "Everything's looking up. Everything's really exciting," says Ginger Minj. "I'm about to hit the road with Hocus Pocus Live with Jujubee, Sapphira Cristal and myself." Read Parade's full interview with Ginger Minj below. Congratulations on winning ! You've waited so long for this moment. Does it feel like you thought it would? I don't know how it feels, to be completely honest with you. It hasn't really sunk in yet. This whole weekend after getting crowned has been such a blur. I finally slept last night, and I slept hard. What were the last couple of months like, as you waited to find out if you had won or not?Nerve-wracking. It always is, but it felt like I had so much more to lose or to prove this time around. A lot of people, including the girls and a lot of the fan base, felt like I was at an unfair advantage coming back to the competition again, which is so hilarious to me, because I felt the complete opposite. I felt like I was at a disadvantage coming back because I had already done really well in the past. If I don't not only meet the level of performance that I had before, but exceed it, then I'm going to go home and I'm going to look like a fool. It felt like I was constantly having to reinvent the wheel to make sure I stayed out of the line of fire. The fandom can be very lovely, and it can also be very harsh. This is your fourth time going through this process. Are you able to block out the negativity, or does it still affect you? I'm human, so of course, when certain things creep through, it does sting a little bit. But to be completely honest with you, I handle it the same way I handled Mistress [Isabelle Brooks] in the semifinals. We had a huge feud, but it was all one-sided. I was so focused on the positivity and trying to reach the next goal that I didn't even realize she was so wrapped up in the situation. I feel the same way about the toxicity in the fan base. I don't acknowledge it, because for every one negative comment, there's a dozen beautiful, loving, amazing comments. I just let the monsters eat themselves. Related: How have you celebrated the win? The morning after I won, I took the crown to Universal Studios and did a photo shoot with Elphaba and Gleida. And then I spent the entire day just riding roller coasters with two dozen of my favorite people in the world. And what plans do you have for the $200,000? I take care of my whole family. In our house, there's me, my husband, our friend Michael, my mom, my sister, my youngest nephew and three dogs. So I have some home repairs that need to be taken care of. I got some debt that needs to be paid down, and then I'm going to take that money and get a place in LA so that I can be more present. You talked about a potential Broadway debut in your future. What are your dream roles? There's two, and I can't choose between them. Number one, I want to play Albin in a Broadway revival of La Cage aux Folles. I've played it in the past, but it really speaks to me. I really understand that character on such a deep level, and I think, unfortunately, four decades after that show was written, it's more relevant and timely now with what we have going on politically. And just for fun, I want to play Madame Morrible in Wicked. Related: You yet again won Snatch Game this season with your Reba McEntire impersonation. Were there other characters you had thought about playing? I never know until literally moments before I start getting ready what character I'm going to do. I love doing character work, so it's always so exciting for me to prepare for it. I had brought Martha Stewart with me this time. I had brought Ross Mathews. I used to play Michelle Visage on Snatch Game live on the Battle of the Seasons tour, and it went viral like a decade ago. People loved it. So maybe I'll bring that out of retirement. That's the problem with me with Snatch Game. I find too many characters that I want to do. How did you prepare for the LaLaPaRuZa with all the potential songs?The key to success on Drag Race in general, which RuPaul gives you every time she walks into the Werk Room, is "make me laugh." A lot of people forget that. When you lip sync a song, it's not about kicking and splitting and death drops. Those are great, and they can certainly add to the experience, but it's a lip sync. You have to know the words, you have to know the intention, and you have to sell the story. As an actor, that's how I approach every single lip sync. Some people love it. Some people don't get it. To me, the excitement of it is creating these characters and pulling the audience into that world for two or three minutes. I wanted to do three performances that were different. I could put my signature stamp on all of them, the things that people expect me to do, but I wanted to approach them from a different character standpoint each time. Now that you are in the Drag Race Hall of Fame, have any other past winners reached out to welcome you?Almost all of them. Trixie Mattel called me yesterday, and we had a long discussion, and she was just so happy for me. Tia Kofi from UK vs. The World is one of my biggest fans, which is so great, because I'm such a huge fan of hers too, and we had a good heart-to-heart. Kyran Thrax. A lot of the UK girls, honestly, were the first ones to reach out. The thing about being a part of this sisterhood for a decade is [that] I do have those personal connections with so many of the girls, and they've all been very happy for me. Ra'Jah [O'Hara] and Kylie [Sonique Love] both were like, "Girl All Stars 6 really is that bitch? Look at us. We're doing it. Three crowns from three of the top four." So it's been really celebratory. Would you come back for an all-winners season?I would never say no to Drag Race, as long as it fits into my life. I love being there. I love everything it's given to me, and I just love competing. I think it's fun. I think it makes me a better not just entertainer, but a better person. Are there other reality shows you would want to go on, like or ?Everybody always asks me if I would do The Traitors, and as much as I love that show, I think I would be terrible at it, because I'm a terrible liar. I don't have a poker face, so I don't think I'd be good at it, but I would love to do something more along the lines of The Masked Singer, where I could go in, sing and have a good time, where the stakes are relatively low. But Ginger, you blended right into the wall that one time on . That's a perfect move for .You know, I didn't think about that. Nearly 110,000 Enjoy 2025 Sands Shopping Carnival
Sixth edition of Macao's tourism and leisure extravaganza July 17-19Drawing more than 640,000 visits to date MACAO, July 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Macao's largest sales event, the 2025 Sands Shopping Carnival, ran July 17-19 at The Venetian® Macao's Cotai Expo, concluding one day ahead of schedule due to Typhoon Wipha. This year's carnival holds significant influence as it received an overwhelming response from local residents and tourists – the shortened three-day run attracted nearly 110,000 visits, close to the number for last year's four-day event. Total visitation is now more than 640,000 since the carnival debuted in 2020. Now in its sixth edition, the event is organised by Sands China Ltd. and co-organised by the Macao Chamber of Commerce. As Sands China's annual signature event, it continues to create synergy between local small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Sands retailers, local NGOs, and the arts and culture community, in a bid to attract local residents and consumers from the Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong. This year's carnival featured more than 580 booths, spanning eight exhibition zones: Sands retailers; household products; gourmet and wine; food court; coffee; Macao cultural and creative; play and fun; and a visitor-centric Macao specialties and souvenirs zone. The coffee zone was new this year, added in response to Macao's blooming café scene, featuring popular brands to meet the demand of the current spending trend. An open-mic busking space was set up outside the coffee zone for visitors to unleash their musical skills, bringing a joyful vibe to the carnival. Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd., said: "Originally scheduled for four days, the 2025 Sands Shopping Carnival concluded one day earlier than expected due to the typhoon. We would like to extend our gratitude to all parties for their tremendous support to our event, no matter rain or shine. We are encouraged to see that the carnival was well-received by local residents and tourists, reaching nearly 110,000 visits during the three-day run. This remarkable result demonstrates the effectiveness of the unique model of housing local SMEs and Sands retailers under one roof. Visitors to the carnival enjoyed browsing more than 5,000 products for MOP 1 each day and finding up to 90 percent off selected products from international brands. Getting to and from the carnival was made convenient by a free shuttle service and free parking. Audiences applauded the performances and winners of one of the highlights in the carnival – the ICBC ePay Presents: Greater Bay Area Karaoke King Singing Competition. Attracting more than 100 contestants from the Greater Bay Area, the entertaining competition contributed to the exciting atmosphere of the carnival, showcasing the charm of diverse cultures. Sands China invited several local community organisations to participate in the carnival to inject vitality to the event while promoting social inclusion in the community. The number of participating community organisations has grown over six years from an initial three to a record-high 19. The carnival aims to provide them with an opportunity to raise awareness about their support services among local residents and tourists, while offering vocational training for their members. The Sands Cares Ambassadors volunteered to give on-site support to community groups during the festival, accompanying members of the Salvation Army Joy Family Integrated Service Centre to enjoy a fun karting experience and play at some of the carnival's game booths. The volunteers also joined the carnival's BOC Smart Kids Presents: Little Master Chef Workshop with members of the Macau Catholic Family Advisory Council. The popular workshop, led by Sands China's food and beverage team, gave parents and children an opportunity to work together to prepare sushi and experience the fun of culinary arts. As has become tradition, the carnival provided an opportunity for members of Macau Special Olympics to role play as news reporters and editors. They conducted interviews and took photos and video, which they will use to write, edit and do post-production for their news reports. The carnival operated with environmental awareness, in line with the goals of the Sands ECO360 global sustainability strategy. Local NGO Green Future, along with a group of Sands ECO360 Ambassadors, demonstrated effective methods for recycling cardboard, plastic and metal to exhibitors, teaching them practical knowledge and techniques for recycling. In addition, the Sands Plastic-Free July Workshop helped shoppers turn waste into treasure to encourage a plastic-free lifestyle. Sands China invited some of the outstanding businesses from the company's Community Revitalisation Series – Entrepreneurship Recruitment Programme for Rua das Estalagens and local retailers from the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory to run booths at the carnival, with the aim of giving them a stronger footing and exposure in the local commercial market. The Sands EmpowHER team member resource group also joined the carnival with a booth that gave participating female employees a platform to showcase their entrepreneurial talents, promoting experiential learning and supporting professional development. Ginger Minj is 'letting the monsters eat themselves' as reigning 'All Stars' winner
Ginger Minj isn't looking for your opinions about her Drag Race: All Stars victory — the crown and scepter are living on her bedroom shelf regardless. After 10 years, four seasons, and a record-breaking three Snatch Game wins, the iconic drag queen has finally claimed victory. Minj was crowned winner of All Stars Season 10 on Friday night, something that still feels "surreal" a few days later. Now that she's won, she says "I don't know what to do with myself" — but you can expect whatever comes next to be impactful. "Even before winning, I have always tried to be a queen for the people. And by the people, I mean all people," Minj tells Out. "So, whether you love me or you loathe me, I will always use whatever platform I have to make the world a happier, safer, better place for all of us. I got into drag because there's nothing more punk rock or political than bucking the system in a big way, and I think that if you can approach things through love and humor, you can open a lot of doors and change a lot of minds." Season 10 of All Stars introduced a new format that gave the returning queens more time to shine as they competed in three groups of six known as "brackets," before the top three from each group merged to compete against each other. The finale featured the most queens in Drag Race herstory, with eight facing off in a lip sync battle royal for the crown. Minj, the first to win under the format, loves the changes as "an old pageant girl at heart." "Before you compete at a national pageant, you have to qualify at a preliminary," she explains. "So, it really felt like brackets for these little prelim pageants that led us up to the big final national. And I love that. I thought it was so exciting, especially as a viewer, because for the six weeks before I even stepped foot on screen, I got to just be a fan and watch these two mini seasons play out." Originally in bracket three, Minj swept her competitors by landing in the top two for each of her group's three episodes, then once again after the groups merged. She also set a Drag Race record by becoming the first queen to win Snatch Game three times. However, the performance she was proudest of wasn't any of her victories, but rather her talent show number, in which she did an original musical theatre number that showcased just how far she's come. "I am most proud of, honestly, the one thing I didn't win, which was the talent show," Minj says. "I absolutely loved that, because it felt like it was finally an opportunity to show the entire world exactly who I am as a performer that I hadn't been able to do in 10 years on Drag Race up to that point." Minj was so focused on devoting her energy to the challenges that antagonism from her fellow competitors washed right over her. Despite some prodding in the werkroom and during Untucked from Season 15 alum Mistress Isabelle Brooks, Minj kept her cool and refused to engage. She maintains now that "there was no tension between us." "It was all very one-sided. And when I saw it play out on television, I knew that that she was poking the bear," Minj says. "But honestly, I was so hyper-focused on what I had to do that I wasn't paying attention. So, I didn't even know it was as big of a deal as it actually was in-person." Minj is taking a similar approach to the online backlash over her victory. While disagreements are always expected among fans, the queen has been the target of an especially intense brigade of viewers upset by her win, with some claiming she was favored by producers or that she shouldn't have been allowed to compete on four seasons in the first place. Minj says she's handling negative comments "exactly the same way as I handled Mistress" — by simply not engaging with them. "I just don't pay attention to the negativity," she says. "Why would I? If I had been crowned 10 years ago, that version of myself probably would have been completely embroiled in the entire mix of it, but at the place that I am in my life now — and I fought so hard to get here — I'm not going to sacrifice any of my peace or my happiness for people who are just looking for an excuse to be miserable." "As long as I just keep kind of focusing on all of the love that is there surrounding me — and there's so much love and positivity swirling around me at all times — I'm just feeding off of that and then letting the monsters eat themselves," Minj adds. Now that she's finally won Drag Race, Minj isn't interested in following the paths of other former contestants by going on reality shows like The Traitors, mainly because "I'm not a good liar." Instead, she says she would love to participate in vocal competitions like The Masked Singer or Show Me Your Voice. Her dream role is to star in Harvey Fierstein's breakthrough 1983 musical, La Cage aux Folles, which was the first hit Broadway musical about a gay relationship. "Especially now with today's political climate, I really want to star in a Broadway revival of La Cage aux Folles," Minj says. "I've done the show a couple times before. ... It's sad, but it's also really interesting that over four decades after that show was written and produced, it's even more timely and relevant right now." Even in the face of anti-LGBTQ+ or anti-drag laws, the queen isn't slowing down. Minj will be hitting the road this fall alongside former Drag Race contestants Jujubee and Sapphira Cristál for their Hokus Pokus Live tour, and expects more opportunities to come as her success grows. "I was born and raised in Leesburg, Florida, which is an hour north of Orlando and 45 years behind it culturally," Minj says. "Even though it was really rough growing up, it gave me a lot of coping skills as I got older to look three steps ahead and see where things are going. That's just how I'm taking it day by day, trying to look ahead, see what's down the pike, and if there's anything I can do to change it."
