Social media reactions to UNC basketball's win over Virginia

Yahoo23-02-2025
The North Carolina Tar Heels have now won three-straight games after beating Virginia 81-66 on Saturday afternoon. The wins are coming at the right time for the Tar Heels as they are still on the NCAA Tournament bubble with a few weeks left in the regular season.
Saturday's win was a big one for the Tar Heels, taking care of business at home and doing so in a dominant fashion early on. The Tar Heels jumped out to a big lead early and really never looked back as Virginia only got to within eight a few times and that's it.
It was another good performance from Hubert Davis' team as they look to continue stacking wins going into March.
Before we turn the page to Monday's game against Florida State, let's take a look at how social media reacted to this win for the Tar Heels.
North Carolina has been playing incredibly loose and connected the last two games.Everyone finally looks like they're having fun.

Kansas coach Bill Self underwent heart procedure after experiencing ‘concerning symptoms'

Kansas men's basketball coach Bill Self was hospitalized after he experienced 'some concerning symptoms,' the school said in a statement Thursday. Self, who underwent a heart procedure, is expected to make a full recovery and is set to be released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital 'soon.' 'Kansas men's basketball coach Bill Self felt unwell and experienced some concerning symptoms Thursday,' Kansas said in a statement. 'He was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he had two stents inserted. Jayhawks head coach Bill Self is seen on the sidelines during the second half of Kansas' 98-94 win over UCF in the Big 12 Conference tournament on March 12, 2025. AP 'The procedure went very well, and he is expected to make a full recovery. He is in good spirits and expects to be released from the hospital soon.' Self was also hospitalized midway through the 2023 season because of a blockage in his arteries, where the 62-year-old had a standard heart catheterization and two stents placed. The longtime Jayhawks coach responded well to that procedure, according to the University of Kansas Health System. Self's most recent hospitalization comes amid a busy offseason for Kansas after a disappointing season in which the Jayhawks got bounced in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Kansas head coach Bill Self yells during the Jayhawks' 81-65 win over Villanova in the Final Four on April 2, 2022. AP Self said his program has started to take a different approach regarding acquiring talent from the transfer portal this year by shifting away from the traditional rankings. 'It seemed like, to me, this year we emphasized more not what other people thought of rankings and stuff like that,' Self told 247Sports this week. 'Not that that was our emphasis before, but the appearance is, 'Well, you go out and get the guys that are the highest rated guys that are in the portal,' which is good. You get Hunter. That's a great get. 'But I think the emphasis was more on what we needed to do to allow us to play as athletic and to play the style that best suits us and best fits me for winning, and I think we were actually able to do that.'

Florida point guard Boogie Fland sidelined for summer workouts following sports hernia surgery

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida point guard Boogie Fland is recovering from sports hernia surgery, and coach Todd Golden expects the Arkansas transfer to be full speed by the time fall camp begins in September. Speaking at a booster event Thursday evening, Golden said Fland had surgery July 3 and will be sidelined up to six weeks. He has missed the last three weeks of summer workouts. 'He'll be back when school starts,' Golden said. 'He could have played through it, but it made more sense to get it taken care of so he didn't have to worry about it during the season.' The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Fland averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 21 games with the Razorbacks last season. The freshman from New York averaged nearly 32 minutes a game despite missing time with a right thumb injury that required surgery. He returned for three postseason games before entering the NBA draft. He withdrew his name from consideration before visiting Gainesville and signing with the defending national champions in May. Fland joined Princeton transfer Xaivian Lee and Ohio University transfer AJ Brown in Golden's revamped backcourt. The trio is expected to replace Walter Clayton Jr., Alijah Martin and Will Richard. The Gators also lost fellow guard Denzel Aberdeen to Kentucky. With Golden at the helm for his third season in Gainesville, the Gators finished 36-4 and beat Houston to clinch the program's third national title. They won their final 12 games, including four in the NCAA Tournament in come-from-behind fashion. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . North Carolina players say Bill Belichick's relationship with Jordon Hudson isn't ‘distraction'

Bill Belichick's relationship with Jordon Hudson has created a cloud of attention around the North Carolina football program, but players insist they're unbothered by the noise. 'Social media can promote some narrative, but that was not a distraction to us at all,' UNC receiver Jordan Shipp told ESPN during Thursday's ACC media day in Charlotte. 'There was never a problem, like people saying she was running practice. We'd never really see her in the building. 'That was never a problem.' Advertisement Shipp added that he would often eat breakfast last season with the wife of then-UNC head coach Mack Brown, and that he sees no difference in Belichick having Hudson around. AP 'If anything, I feel like it's not a distraction because it's always good to have somebody in your corner in the building, just knowing they support us,' Shipp said. Other Tar Heels agreed with that sentiment. Advertisement 'I log on my phone and see something about Coach Belichick, so it is different, of course,' said quarterback Gio Lopez. 'But you'd never think that about him. He's a normal guy, a normal coach. That's how he carries himself. He's very personable, not worried about the spotlight. He just does his job.' Belichick himself called the media attention around him and Hudson just 'noise.' Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson at a UNC basketball game on March 8. Getty Images Advertisement 'Sometimes it's noisy and sometimes it isn't,' he said. 'Sometimes with the Patriots it was noisy, too.' That noise ramped up in April when Hudson awkwardly interrupted Belichick's 'CBS Sunday Morning' interview when the coach was asked how the couple had met, and again in May when reports surfaced that Hudson had been banned from the Tar Heels' facility, which UNC Athletics denied. The players maintain that they are undeterred and fully focusing on the team's season, which kicks off on Sept. 1 against TCU. 'We support Coach B no matter what he's doing,' Shipp added. 'We're behind him 100 percent. Whatever stuff is in the news drug on more than it really was. It was never a distraction, never an issue, never a problem.'
